You could either get the new $499 2014 or the 2012 I5. I think the new one would suit you fine.

Snapped up a 2012 2.6GHz I7 quad core, with 1TB fusion drive 8GB RAM yesterday from the UK apple store. Sitting here waiting for UPS to show up. Time to put my 2010 core2 duo on fleabay.

Since you chugged along with the same desktop for 6 years, please do yourself a favor and get the mid grade 2014 or at the very least upgrade the ram on the base mini to 8gb. The soldered in/un-upgradeable 4gb is really pathetic and will get worse throughout the years of later OS X versions

Got the movers package with the coupon but unfortunately BB online won't let me cancel my existing order--I tried only a couple of hours after placing the order yesterday and it still has not shipped.

Oh well, maybe I can give them a call.

Got an email from Refurb.me notifying me the availability of 2012 2.3 Quad-Core, check Apple Store 14 minutes later and the status is already "Out of Stock".

Are the Chinese scalpers hoarding 2012 Mac Mini now? :confused:

Folks know the 2012 quad-core is the best value. You need to be quick.

No. $90 extra for a theoretical 13% performance increase (which you'll never see) is not worth it. Use the savings for RAM or SSD instead.

Sign in with Apple ID. That way your info and credit card on file is already filled in.

I've been watching the refurb 2.3 I7 with the 256gb solid state drive option for $170 more. Is this a value? I wonder since you're losing the 1tb hard drive. To me that should be an equal exchange, not an additional $170.

Am I wrong?

SSD always costs more than an HDD.

That's right. But you're getting a quarter storage capacity (though faster) while paying $170 more. Unless you need super fast access to your data, I don't see the value.

And as mentioned here, you can add your own SSD anyway if you feel confident in the install.

an SSD to me is more than just bigger numbers. it transforms the user experience and removes a ton of aggravation from waiting on your computer (I'm impatient in front of a keyboard). that said, any upgrade you buy from apple is at an rip-off price so just evaluate what's more important to you. personally i'm ok with being ripped off a bit for an SSD because they are just so awesome, but not for RAM beyond 8 GB.
