A Walk Down Memory Lane: Evolution of the iPhone Display Bezels and Notch

”People” don’t have to know I have an iPhone at all. I couldn’t care less.
It was never about the consumer caring if people know they have an iPhone, it’s about apple making the iphone distinctive…which they certainly did.

I still have a X. No need to upgrade really because it does everything, so I'll just soldier on until the battery dies. Currently on 78%.

I'd like to see a dynamic "top bezel" instead of an island, an independent separate mini display, that turns off completely when watching a video, for example. This kind of "evolutions" like notch or island just get in the way.

can you configure the dynamic island disappear completely, like making black all around and above it, like it was a black glass rectangle (i.e. full width, full top)? not staying like a pill in the middle. So you can watch a video without a hole.

You can indeed -- simply set your wallpaper to an image that contains a solid black color at the top. With the longstanding notch in other iPhones, you'll quickly find that there are multiple default wallpapers which fit this criterion.

Watching a video without a hole is likewise already built-in to iOS, regardless of what you have set as your wallpaper: just double-tap the screen to zoom the video so that it does not invade the hole-punch (or notch) region of the screen.

When you watch a video, the area of the notch (and presumably the island) Is normally filled in by black. You have to zoom and crop the video to get it to extend out of the safe area.
