planning to get a case for my iPhone (when the 3G on comes out)

--- can anyone recommend a brand?

I got my iPhone in January, and went caseless until May. I then got the Griffin Wave. I really like it. It makes the iPhone less slippery but doesn't add too much bulk or make it difficult to pull out of my pocket.

A good friend of mine has a rubber case and screen protectors. I carry mine naked. I do have a belt case that I carry it in at work, but I've only dropped it a couple times. Once I managed to get my foot in between it and the stone floor the week I bought it (Whew!), and then last week I dropped it face down at work, but this time it was on a rubber floor. It did not get hurt at all! I do have a couple small scratches on the back, the Apple logo is a little scuffed and the first drop resulted in a small scratch just above the camera, but I just love the feel of carrying it in its' full glory.

Peace
Scott

I've never had a case for mine.

Boku mo. I haven't had mine for that long, but I don't see much value in a case. Mine has the fine scratches on the chrome ring also, but that's it. No dents, no scratches on the front or rear surface so far. But I am afraid of dropping it. I drop my phones very infrequently, but it does happen once in a great while.

Naked as a baby's bottom since November 9th. Cohabits with keys and coins in pocket. Looks new.

I use the Case-Mate Naked case. It protects well and and still shows off the phone with very very little added bulk.

I had an invisible shield on mine, and I loved it. For some reason, I sprang for the incase slider one day and peeled the shield off. The next day I dropped the damn thing. Incase saved it. I haven't quite made up my mind if I dropped it because of the case, or if the case saved me from disaster... but either way, I'm too afraid to take it off now.

I'd love to go naked, but I'm afraid of the screen getting scratched. so I keep mine in the Artwizz case.

I'm still looking for that 'perfect' case.

Would it fit in one of those cloth slip cases that came with the 5th Gen iPod? I've got an unopened one of them kicking around and was thinking about putting it in that

u might want to buy a case for the 3G w/ the plastic backing and all...the only covering I've ever used was a crystalclear film for the screen which was awesome but then when I took it off I was just fine so I'm wondering if I even needed it.

I think sometimes cases scratch phones more because you're always pulling the phone in and out of the case, causing some sort of contact that could scratch it.

I think the pocket is fine as long as you do not keep your car keys in the same pocket as your phone. Also, I would recommend looser fitting jeans as opposed to tight ones obviously. ;)

you know, i used to be pretty paranoid about damaging my iphone and always had it in a case (i've tried many), but after almost 1 full year, it's in excellent condition and has proved to be way more resilient than i expected, so i'm less paranoid now. i do use it naked occasionally, but i tend to keep it in a case (an incase slider) most of the time simply because i find the iphone alone to be too slippery to hold for my comfort.

Naked for me! I don't use protection it just feels better without it...

I've dropped mine a lot (on concrete, gym floor, tile floor) and it has some scuffs and scratches on the back, but the screen is still flawless not a scratch on it.

I'm sticking with my 1st gen iPhone, its ruggedness is the main reason why.

Oh, and I've had it for almost a year now.

I enjoy the nakedness of the iPhone! Thanks to InvisibleShield installation at Macworld SF '08 for free. I gave up some MarWare silicon piece of junk, that scratched up my chrome bezel, but I was lucky enough to get a replacement just before the MWSF '08, so everything has been cool.

I've been looking into cases more and more since the new 3g iPhone will have an all plastic, glossy back. I love the nakedness of it, and think a case would add too much bulk and cover up all the beauty. Do you know if you can get the InvisibleShield installed somewhere? I looked it up and found Youtube videos and some people had problems getting all the tiny pieces on it and getting it all lined up right. Seems pretty cool though.

I bought mine in July last year and purchased a case with it. I removed the case within three days and haven't used it since. The main reason is it wouldn't slide into my jeans pocket easily with the case on. Without the case, I can put the phone half-way in, let go and it slides the rest of the way in by itself. With the case I had to force it in my jeans pocket. Granted, the case was made of rubber so the friction of it was what made it difficult.

The face is perfect, even though I've dropped it a few times. There are some scratches on the back, but those don't bother me.

I plan to upgrade when the new one comes out, but I'm concerned it will not be as rugged as the first gen, since the back is plastic.

HAHAHAHAHA! ... nice

I have just gotten used to dropping/throwing my phones, so having a phone worth treating well is going to be a change. I have always thought that iPhones look odd with cases, and take away approx 80% of the phone's cool factor. I'm going to take my chances sans case.

i used it without a case for about 4 months, now it looks all scratched up n bad(back only) so i just got one of those silicone case(?)

If you like naked but don't want scratches, use InvisibleShield. They are thin plastic films that were originally designed to cover helicopter blades. They will replace it if it scratches.

I'm interested in getting InvisibleShield.... they replace their shield if it scratches or the phone if it scratches? lol

I don't think anyone would replace the device itself.

They (zagg.com) do replace the film if IT scratches. Once the film is applied, the phone itself will NOT get scratched.

It covers the entire front as well as the back, so it is basically a screen protector as well. That is where you would normally notice scratches.

I have tried others and IS is the best (IMHO).
