Actually Tensor cores on RTX are super useful, I do use it for ML projects
Not for gamers at this time... So much of the die space wasted on it when we still can't get solid 60 FPS at 4K with $1000+ Nvidia cards with all settings on but I digress.
This is iPad 3 all over again... but even worse as the screen is still the same. Hopefully this is a 6 month release and the rumors of microled are true...

The iPad 3 also added more GPU into the A5 > A5X, without improve the CPU also.

If you change the new iPad when every new generation release, that's not a problem. Just buy it!

The iPad Pro 2020 runs more sensor, more complex apps / iPadOS will update for this device in the following months.
I don't think the 1-more GPU can handle all the new features in the following iPadOS update.
In my personal view: The 2020 ver. will underpowered and not usable in iOS 15, you may not find the problems for just release (like iPad 3).
Is this a parody or sarcasm post?

If the 2020 will be underpowered and not usable in iOS 15, then every other iPad currently sold and supported by Apple and iOS/iPadOS 13 will suffer the same fate.

Your post is divorced from reality.

Not sure where you're getting your information but it's not very much of the die space. The initial fear mongering about this was incorrect.

I can say for music professionals, writers, composers (Oddly enough) the software has been vastly impressive. I can do things on the iPad Pro that normally would have taken sitting down at a desktop to do. And they are continuously improving them.

Can't say I agree across the board. I'm a writer. I do NOT feel the iPadOS writing apps are anywhere near their equivalents on MacOS, and in fact are poor in their own right. For example there is not a single decent screenplay writing app for the iPad - and I've tried pretty much all of them. Final Draft for the iPad is a joke - and vastly inferior to the MacOS version. For novel writers it's a bit better, but even here the iOS versions often are poor - compare Scrivener for MacOS and iOS - nuff said. There really isn't an excellent writing app for long form writing on iOS. Now, if you write short texts maybe you're completely fine on an iPad, but otherwise, I'd say iPadOS app ecosystem still has a ways to go for writers. YMMV.

Funny how the bends are always “from normal use.” Nobody’s ever bent one by mistreating it.
Except there are no bends from “normal use”... 😏

Funny thing is, for my uses, I could probably use a 4-5 year old chip and not even notice a difference. I read books, watch YouTube and Netflix and comment on sites like this. How much power does that take?
The base line iPad is more than enough for you.
Question is: why are you commenting on the iPad Pro thread?
Don’t get me wrong: there is nothing wrong in your user case, it’s just a product for a different target 🤷🏻‍♂️

I would like to add that, careful Apple buyers care about the product lifecycle and its valuation. Apple practice planned obsolesce, therefore, for a given CPU architecture or RAM configuration, from its inception, optimization, discontinuation, extended support, and finally included in the vintage list, is inevitable.

If you buy an iPhone 5 just days before the iPhone 5S launch, then even if the difference isn't major, years later, you will realize the difference when upgrading iOS. Newer features require this and that that you don't have in your devices, like Bluetooth LE, or 64-bit processors.

*It doesn't matter how performant a chip is today, what matters is where the chip is with respect to its product lifecycle.*
Apple NEVER used planned obsolescence.
Actually their products are the best supported on the market.

Ok. It would be weird for them to do another update this year just for the processor (I write off 5g only because most people don’t buy cellular iPads, so for most people that would mean two nothing-burger iPad updates in the same year). Seems like if miniLED is pushed to next year, so will the new chip and 5G.
I don’t think we are going to see any other iPad Pro this year 🤷🏻‍♂️

Those “this is ipad 3 again” comments are beyond my understanding: the 2020 iPad Pro is lightning fast, it is better value than the previous 2018 model and it is the best tablet on the market.
I guess people have to bash Apple no matter what here... 🤷🏻‍♂️

Indeed.

Apple has different iPads for different use cases (I'm not personally sure why the distinction between the iPad and iPad Air exists, but oh well). The Pro is definitely not for the "read books, watch YouTube and Netflix and comment on sites like this" crowd. If people want to spend upwards of a grand for that, more power to them, but the $329 one will also do it really well.

Couldn’t agree more. iPad 3 was basically an underpowered piece of crap from the day it was released. Sure it was Retina but that alone isn't enough. It should never have been released imo.

If this had an A13X, there still wouldn’t be any reason for the 3rd gen owners to upgrade. For gen 1 and 2 owners, and first time buyers, it’s a better and less expensive iPad than what was for sale two weeks ago.

What’s the problem?

Not saying the 2020 iPP is bad as the iPad 3 was a serious POC, but there's a high chance the buyers of the "early" 2020 iPad are going to feel quite similar to the buyers who spent top dollar on the 2019 MBP 15's only to see the 16 come out a few months later. That's what we're talking about.

I mean, the biggest issue in the 2019 MBP 15 is the potential keyboard reliability issues (it seems unclear if that version of the keyboard even still has the problem), and those come with a four-year warranty.

So, sure, the 16 is nicer in several respects, but it's not like the 15 is a bad product.

It's possible we see something this fall but I think it's probably more likely to be 2021. That's the issue with waiting when you haven't upgraded in 2+ years.. you better be willing to wait another year.

In my case I have the money now.. my iPad is old.. Who knows what could happen in a year, especially now. I'm a high-risk person for the virus so I could be dead in a year.. not going to sweat a possible better iPad.

Being housebound helped push me over the edge too. I'll use the heck out of it now.

I mean… my MacBooks are usually on a four-year cycle. My current MacBook Pro, which is my daily driver both for work and home, is almost six years old now.

Surely someone who uses an iPad Pro typically won't upgrade it every two years, but more like three.

In the case of the 1st and 2nd gen iPad Pro I can see wanting to upgrade just for the new form factor. I didn't pull the trigger in 2018 because my wife needed a new iPad Pro and we sort of alternate, but I was definitely looking forward to losing some of the bulk. I'm still satisfied with the performance of my 2017 but will appreciate the additional storage and RAM.

I used to replace iPads more frequently and one of us would use the hand-me-down. But over time we settled on different size preferences.. and prices have gone up as we moved to the Pro models.

I was almost giddy when I purchased new iPad 6's for the kids and they were on sale for $329 (128GB).

I don’t think we are going to see any new iPad Pro in 2020, after this model.
So the situation will be different from what happened with 2019 MacBook Pro 15”.
