There was never any rumor of a plan to host an event just for iPad Pro.

I don’t think thats true. There was plenty of insider evidence/rumor to suggest that Apple was planning to host a March event.

Yes, but not just for iPad Pro. The rumor included a new MacBook Air (which was released), a new iMac (which may still be coming), iPad Pro, the tile device, and various other things.

I think when you have those rumors that all kinds of random stuff is going to be announced at an event, they're generally bogus wishlists rather than actual intel.

There are exceptions (there was that event where the Intel Mac mini, the iPod Hi-Fi, and some other thing… some case/cover? were announced), but generally speaking, there's more of a theme.

The tile device is tricky. You need some kind of video to introduce that, arguably even more so than with the iPad Pro Magic Keyboard. You have a user story to tell there.

The iMac I'm guessing is waiting on Comet Lake-S.

Isn’t prosser still saying iMac is imminent?

I feel scammed. Im getting it today and will return it without opening the box.
You feel scammed because they delivered exactly what they promised?

One question I build PCs and I know AMD (at least back in Phenom series) allows and gives the ability to unlock the cores they disable when releasing their cpus ( now they just unlock them all ), Can this be done on Apple's a12x cpu. If its just a gpu core disabled couldn't it be enabled on a firmware update like a bios update. Honest question here I remember with AMD being able to make duo cores into 4 not just threads; because AMD for some reason used to release many cpus with some disabled

Usually these things are fused, so, no, they can’t be enabled. (Plus, the reason they were disabled, is typically because they have manufacturing defects).

Not my guess, Jon Prosser is basically claiming it won’t happen til 2021. Hell with how things are it may get delayed till 2021 for the 5G/ A14x
Dueling rumors, many other rumors say 2020. But given the economic situation alone, 5th gen iPad’s could easily be slipped into 2021, due to depressed demand.

For all we know they won’t come until July 2021, which would be the same 16 month cycle that this 4th gen was just delivered.

Holding up a lunch tray to use LieDAR is more awkward than wearing a bulky VR head mounted jock strap. Gimmick that people will try once or twice then forget like 3D touch.
I used 3D Touch all the time. And why are you here when you consistently bash all things Apple? I’ve never seen a single post from you that wasn’t overtly negative regarding literally everything Apple does.

Why do you feel scammed? It‘s an upgrade even to the 2018, in all the ways that have been mentioned here.

Apple doesn't care what one person thinks and is killing 3D touch like I predicted because it's dumb compared to long touch.

Why are some people here to kiss up to everything Apple does wrong? If everyone was like you there'd be no progress, stuck on 3.5" display, 16GB storage, no precision pen input, no mainstream joystick support, no mouse cursor, no external storage, etc.

The original Apple II user base wasn't as close minded and clueless.

Long press stinks in comparison to 3DT, in my very humble opinion.

I miss 3D Touch less than I thought I would, but, yeah, it was definitely superior. It was faster, it offered more flexibility (multiple intensity levels), etc. It's just Apple never quite figured out what to do with it, and long press is more or less good enough.

Work smart, not hard. Having to pinch the phone one handed is dumb and awkward. Getting rid of it allows more internal space for more important things like larger battery. Apple finally realized it's dumb and is getting rid of it. LieDAR is the next 3D touch.

I upgraded from a 2018 11” 256GB WiFI to a 2020 12.9” 1TB Cellular. I don’t have buyer’s remorse in the least, because I’m getting a larger screen, much needed more storage, LTE capability, not to mention LiDAR and a GPU bump.

As other people have mentioned, hardware isn’t the limiting factor. I doubt that there will be any app that I can’t run once the new A14x comes out. The A12x (and A12z) are more than capable to do all the multitasking and CPU intensive tasks I’d wish to do on an iPad for the foreseeable future.

There is no need to become fixated on specs. Either get the new iPad because you want it or need it, or don’t.

Same here.

I run some very specific applications that can use the extra RAM (without needing the 1 TB model). So the upgrade + sale of the older one is worth it for me.

Problem was you could never tell when you could force press on things. It coincided, unfortunately, with removal of UX affordances (hard enough to tell something is actually a button, let alone that it does different things depending on how hard you press it), etc.

It’s a stopgap. Rumor is that they are preparing a bigger update when they adopt 5G.

Literally never owned an iPad before. I've been an Apple user my entire adult life working on MacBook Pros, and iPhones.

Just pre-ordered the iPad Pro 12.9 512gb via T-Mobile.

Should I return it and wait it out for the 5G drop?... Or you guys think the $200-$300 valuation loss after reselling is worth it?

- composed on a MacBook Pro 15in 2017 w/ Touch Bar.

Right. Just another thing where the iOS/iPadOS folks screwed up discoverability.

It's always unwise to wait for an upgrade that may or may not happen unless you absolutely need it.

Do you absolutely need 5G cellular on your iPad (my guess is no). Do we know for a fact a 5G iPad Pro is coming this fall (we don't, and my guess is it won't).

Little to do with functionality between loooooong press and 3DT.

Isn’t android going full steam into this?
