That's always debatable whether it's totally free but I can def see where you are coming from. Yeah I think
A week is a very safe bet bc @pod2g absolutely had to know if he spoke anything about it- it would have to be EXTREMELY vague, or good news with no BS'ing and straight to the point. With the second being the best of the two, which we received. Idk what it takes to jailbreak, but I repair iPhones physically(meaning broken screens-replace backs, home
Buttons-etc) in my spare time, and some things can be challenging. But developing a jailbreak the entire world will use- without any type of promised $$, that is impressive. While also likely what is taking it so long(if apple
Doesn't hire up all of our good Jb'ers) which it's evident they don't have them all!!!!

@i0n1c is writting a book, so not actively Jailbreaking but that doesn't mean he never will

@musclenerd too?

Sure there are lots of people behind the scenes.

Pardon the interruption, but can someone tell me the difference between the jailbreak and the unlock?

From what I've read if I stay on 5.0 it's a "possibility" that there is an unlock [which I have not a clue which is what]

Yet if I upgrade to 5.0.1, @pod3g is saying he will have a jailbreak [which I assume is stuff like Cydia, and all of those great apps I read on idownloadblog].

Coming from an Android phone, I'm completely lost to the difference, but wouldn't mind if someone explained in detail so I can know which I'd like to do..

Thank you guys

Is it called “iOS Hacker’s Handbook” if so i have it on pre-order as it looks like a good read?

quite abet of detail in these. Also in order to unlock you must jailbreake. unless your device was purchased factory unlocked.

There's a sticky thread at the top of this forum ("New to the iPhone World...") that explains most frequent terms. It's a good primer.

Yeah I was actually looking in that thread after looking in here, I still still was confused, it's still early here in dc, smh. But thanks nonetheless.

here is a list of some of the people that are in the jailbreake community. they have different roles and of course any them might not be active at this time.
Dev team

Team Chronic

posixninja-chronic-pod2g-OPK-lilstevie-AriX-westbaer-ius-Jaywalker-NerveGas-DHowett

Those are the two main teams. Og course the giuy that finds a exploit is the hero. Pod2g has credited Saurik many times for his help with Corona. Still a Small group and hopefully there are diamonds in the rough waiting to come out. Saying we only have pod2g and chronic is total BS!

I think one should donate to motivate the hackers to continue doing their thing. I wouldn't consider to buy a idevice if it couldn't be Jailbroken, that's why I donate.

To answer a earlier question about diff between jailbreak and unlock- simply put is this:

Jailbreak is the android equivalent of root.

Unlock is carrier unlock- so that ones apple iPhone may be used on any carrier, that has GSM Tech and a sim available.

Pod2g tweeted he and his team could expect the much awaited A5 ios 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak in a week. This is great news. Time to update your A5 to ios 5.0.1 before it's too late !

And I'm sure iOS 5.1 will be released right after the jailbreak for A5 + 5.0.1 comes along.

:)

Still n 5.0 & 1.0.11 BB. Just wished MuscleNerd would just give us the word to update or not.

I think that the 5.0.1 JB for A5 devices will be out before an iOS update is issued to patch the exploit, so if you stay on 5.0.0 for now you should be "ok". But I would definitely keep an eye out for an iOS update that may close your upgrade options.

Tinyumbrella just has a new version that support 4s! and I heard A5 not able to downgrade the firmware from 5.1 to 5.01 or upgrade from 5.0 to 5.01 if apple not sign with 5.01 anymore! I am confused? could someone please explain! Thanks.

Yeah, I'm going to wait & not update to 5.01. Hopefully, the jailbreak has the same exploit for 5.01 & 5.0 too. Fingers crossed!

One would assume that the 5.0.1 exploit for A4 devices was easily back-ported to 5.0.0 using Corona, so maybe it will be the same case for A5 devices too. But I took no risk and upgraded to 5.0.1 immediately, having an untethered jailbreak is first priority!

I agree Dwalls, having sold my 4, I only have my wife's 4 and my old 3Gs to Roy with jailbreak. The worst part being that once the iPhone came to Vzw, I dropped my iPhone on AT&T and just picked on up with one of my available upgrades on Vzw. With that said, I updated my 3Gs to iOS 5, it runs amazingly well. And jail broken!!!!

Musclenerd is staying on 5.0 even if the 5.0 port takes longer:
https://twitter.com/#!/MuscleNerd/status/154396614100910080

That should tell anyone waiting on an unlock all they need to know for now.

As for restoring 5.0.1 on an A5 device after the window is closed, that's why I am glad I am still using the iphone 4 :)

Joking aside, I think the posts telling people to upgrade to 5.0.1 (unless unlocking) is telling that this is going to be userland injected and not bootrom based. It will be interesting how they address the restore issue on the A5 devices once the window closes.

I have personally tested restoring to 5.0 from 5.0.1 this week on an iphone4 and while involved, it does work, with the SHSH and APtickets and redsn0w firmware stitching but definitely uses limera1n for many parts.
