I can understand 1GB of RAM on the iPhone. I am running the iOS 8 beta on the iPhone 5 (which has 1GB RAM) and it runs absolutely perfectly, even in demanding applications. I'm just not experiencing this safari-reload problem people seem to bring up between tabs.

What I will not excuse, under any circumstance, will be if Apple keeps the base model at 16GB. That will be beyond comprehension. The base model FOUR YEARS ago was 16GB. If they honestly expect me to spend $650 on a phone in the year 2014 with 16 GIGS of storage, I will switch to android. I have been using the iPhone since 2007, and it would be a shame to have to leave the whole ecosystem, but 16GB of storage in 2014 would absolutely infuriate me. I will be so mad that I could spit. An iPad mini with retina display with LTE AND 32GB Storage costs $625. Anything less than 32GB on the base model is just pure and absolute greed.

Ironically enough, I've had a single Macrumors tab opened on both a 5S and iPad (current), and they both reload when I switch out of Safari and re-open it. And guess what? Safari is the only thing I had active on the iPad (according to the App Drawer).

Oh no, your browser reloaded? Thats awful! #1stworldproblems

Please, go buy an Android phone with 48 cores and 24GB of RAM. If all of you guys would do this, I wouldn't have to stand in line for hours on launch day! Win-win!

You don't want a 2 GB system ram

Let me tell you: the day Apple is starting to make 2 GB system memory iPhones, they will want to take advantage of it and then your older 1 GB iDevice will start to suffer and experience lagging... let them design iOS 8 and upcoming releases with 1 GB in mind instead of 2 GB... My two cents.. :)

Apple wants you to use the Cloud! Unlimited Storage, if you have an Unlimited Data Plan, of course.

The phones have used Package on Package fabrication to save space on the circuit board. Perhaps Apple could not fit 2GB RAM in or it would get too hot for the A8.

The iPad Air A7 does not have the RAM in a PoP configuration. If they do this again with the A8, it would make it easy to up it to 2GB.

By the way, 1GB is simply not enough. I get a lot of low memory warnings when I have 5-6 apps open on my 5s (jailbroken phone so I can have cool stuff like that). Plus Safari is a pain due to the fact that tabs will refresh due to not enough memory.

You're right. Apple should double the amount of RAM because it doesn't handle your jailbroken software / apps well. They should probably make you head of Product Development too (since you are so in tune with their target market).

By that admission, then this whole site (and your presence here) is also a problem, no? How's that straw man working for you there?

I'm shocked...1GB...seriously?
The iPhone 5 introduced 1GB. It was time for an upgrade to 2GB. What was the point of introducing a 64 bit processor if you're bottlenecking the device to 1GB?

Android is on the rise and Apple needs to fight back, not release some half assed product. Introducing a 64 bit CPU and only using 1GB of RAM on the next model is just wow. They want developers to unleash the power of the iPhone yet limit their app's memory consumption to around 300-500mb (obviously most apps will just use 20-30 mb of RAM)

So you need Apple to up RAM for your "jailbreak" apps to run smoothly? Does it sound right? BTW, who the f running 5 apps simultaneously on a 4" screen device?

iPhone works so smoothly that i don't care how much RAM does it have. I am only interested in new features and if they are any value for me.

Haha. Well, kudos if your's is smooth. My iPhone 5 is like wading through a cesspool of tar while having two limbs amputated from time to time. Most of the time it works pretty smoothly, but when it starts acting up, man, it sure acts up good...

My Pyramid of Doom passed round 200 and became ragging badly like an old Nintendo.
More memory is highly welcome.

Makes sense. They're probably loading up the 5.5" model to be the proper flagship, the One Phone To Rule Them All.

This actually might be true. The same way as the Galaxy S line is considered their "flagship" the Note usually trumps it with slightly better specs minus the PPI.

"We have managed to incorporate all of these same great features, at the same price"

Blog Editor #1: (nudges blogger next to him). "Did Tim Cook just say he is including the same features for the same price?"

Blog Editor #2: "Yes, I think he did. What an incredible announcement"

Blog Editor #1: "What are you talking about? This is ridiculously stupid"

Blog Editor #2: "Well I'm writing how amazing it is. You better too if you want to get invited back for the next event"

Blog Editor #1: "True. Ok I'll say it's the best iPhone they have ever created...again"

Larger screen = more pixels = larger assets in ram + 1GB = multitasking HELL.

I cannot support this obvious cheaping out, so if its true, its a definite no buy for me.

Let Apple engineers worry about that. If you're better than they are, you're probably not sitting around here posing messages.
People asking for more RAM on an unreleased iPhone make me laugh. It's like...I want 4.0L engine instead of 3.0L in my BMW because Honda/Toyota has 4.0L engine, but didn't realize that 3.0L engine in BMW blow the sh.tty 4.0L Japanese engine out of the water.

decisions like these are never done by engineering, they are done by management

If iphone 6 only has 1gb of RAM I would conclude a conspiracy that Apple is purposely putting App development on their own timeline and will not allow for more advanced apps to function until they say so.

yeah keep telling yourself that..............1 gb of ram 2014 what a joke.

Yeah! And so is a measly 2GB. Gimme 32TB with 720 processor cores and a built-in fusion reactor. Anything less is just stUpid... and far too slow to run multiple instances of Watson. Useless.
