Reloading Safari tabs and the once in a blue moon crash (and that's really all it is... it certainly isn't "widespread") are NOT enough reason to go overkill on the RAM. Sure it may only cost Apple a dollar a unit, but that's millions of dollars. They have stockholders to answer to, and face it, 99.99% of users will be FINE with 1GB of RAM.
If you didn't bother to read at least some of the previous posts addressing every single one of your points here, then I suppose that explains why you were never inclined to search iOS + memory issues on your favorite search engine explaining at the very least, your first comment.

1 GB of RAM should take half the power of 2 GB. And it you have fast flash storage then you shouldn't have an issue if developers do their jobs correctly.

Fine by me! Ive never once had a memory issue with any of my iDevices including the iPhone. People who feel the need to have 16 browser tabs and 42 apps all open at the same time on their PHONE are absurd and need to buy a tablet or a laptop.

Apple trying to control the leaks

Double down on security they said.
It'll be easy they said.

I've had a Nexus 4, 5, and 7 (2013). All of which had quad core CPUs and 2GB RAM. And all of them multitask slower than my fiance's iPhone 5 with half the cores, half the RAM, and a slower clock speed.

The spec head inside me is a little disappointed. But the logical part of me keeps saying arbitrary numbers don't matter, performance matters.

If by flawless you mean the constant reloading on Safari (a problem on OSX as well), frequent app killing, and frequent low memory errors, then yes, iOS runs fantastically on 1GB of memory.

The reloading issue should be a total embarrassment for a supposed industry leader. What's even worse is that they seem to be oblivious to the issue.

Just a thought.

Maybe since they aren't introducing a new iPhone C Phone.

They will be introducing a low end iPhone 6.

2 YEAR CONTRACT PRICES SHOWN

8GB iPhone 5C - Free (Last years iPhone 5C with 8GB of ram)

The new "C" category - Low-end iPhone

16GB 1GB Ram A8, *8MP Camera, 4.7" Gorilla Glass Display iPhone 6- $99

Flagship iPhone 6 Lineup

64GB 2GB Ram A8, 13MP Camera, 4.7" Saphire Display iPhone 6 - $199

128GB 2GB Ram A8, 13MP Camera, 4.7" Saphire Display iPhone 6 - $299

64GB 2GB Ram A8, 13MP Camera, 5.5" Saphire Display iPhone 6 - $299

128GB 2GB Ram A8, 13MP Camera, 5.5" Saphire Display iPhone 6 - $399

Doubt it. It all comes down to margins. Selling 1 year old hardware at lower prices (i.e. iPhone 5 hardware in the 5c package) allows those margins to be maintained. Selling the cutting edge hardware (16GB iPhone 6) at 100.00 less then usual would erode margins.

feel sorry for people who expected something different. This is apple the king of cost and profit effectiveness.

For a phone it won't be a major issue until it comes to safari or editing movies. For an ipad (which i would use as a productivity tool), no way.

I probably won't by an iphone/ipad again until they introduce a pro line.
+ 1

"with an "8" denoting 8 Gb (1 GB) and a "B" denoting 16 Gb (2 GB)"

Is it logical? why not "A" and "B" or 8 and 16?

And to all whiners, stop bitching about RAM. You want more RAM, get to Android phones.
What the point of asking more RAM when it can outperform competitors' phone with 3x amount of RAM? It's about performance. I can disregard how much RAM an iPhone has as long as it outperforms others and 1.5X-2X from the last iPhone.

Makes sense. They're probably loading up the 5.5" model to be the proper flagship, the One Phone To Rule Them All.

1GB of RAM on an iPhone is no issue. On an iPad, it's an issue.

Luckily, I only have the iPhone so this doesn't bother me!

yeah keep telling yourself that..............1 gb of ram 2014 what a joke......:apple:

well,

I am have been very disappointed with iPhone 6 specs lately

starting at 16GB
1GB RAM
protruding camera

So sad...
will order iPhone 6 at the first moment possible

I hear what people are saying here.

But think about this from Apple's point of view for a moment.

We are not Apple's typical consumers.

It would cost Apple a few more dollars per phone.

They will sell millions to people who don't know and don't care as it's THE NEW APPLE PHONE so they must have it.

They COULD make the phone better, with more RAM to make sure it all runs smoother for longer and has a longer lifespan as iOS upgrades need more in the future.

But WHY BOTHER ?

They will sell millions and millions anyway, they don't care what we think or want.

Just sell them with the largest margin, and you will all buy the new one next year.

Power consumption of RAM is not linear, disregarding the fact that we are omitting other details, such as the number of modules involved.

The new iPhone won't even have a 1080p display when most flagships are already headed towards 4k or QHD. Will the iPhone 6's display be a joke too?

Probably wouldn't be a margin buster. It has more to do with what you said the the beginning: 99% of users only need 1GB so why add excess memory? Apple will never appease everyone and frankly they shouldn't.

iPhone works so smoothly that i don't care how much RAM does it have. I am only interested in new features and if they are any value for me.

Ironically enough, I've had a single Macrumors tab opened on both a 5S and iPad (current), and they both reload when I switch out of Safari and re-open it. And guess what? Safari is the only thing I had active on the iPad (according to the App Drawer).

Holy cow... more I read in this thread the more I feel

I would be so happy if that would be true...

but yea wishful thinking

it might be enough, just like how 4gb is "enough" but nobody can deny that having 2gb of ram would help a lot.
