Damnit I want to know what I have but I REALLLLY don't wanna go install something outside the app store.

The solution: Full encrypted iTunes Backup. Full Factory reset. setup it up as brand new. install the enterprise certificate. install the devil app. Run the app get results. Factory reset and restore from backup! a lot of work but safer!

Isn't it just a web site. Surely you can't "install" an app that isn't located at Apples App Store

To make Apple products more palatable to companies Apple allows enterprise Companies to install special profiles to allow for private company apps to be run on employees iPhones. This is the mechanism the developer is abusing to get his rogue app on iphones.

Sadly I'm really considering it... Would be hilarious if the app is pure malware and just does a random Samsung or tsmc the first time you run it and then next time your run it it just reads back whatever it randomly picked the first time.

No matter how much Apple hates Samsung, they still heavily rely on them to manufacture their products.
The quality of Samsung's parts is not the issue in the animosity between the two giants. The fact Apple has chosen to diversify their supply channel, and in this particular case (A9 chip, almost 60% going to TSMC), successfully I would argue, just indicates smart business sense on their part.

TSMC here

MR still implying that might be some speed differences between the two chips, just to fuel haters and serial complainers.....
It is the same A9 chip, designed by Apple. It is just made by two different foundries using two slightly different processes.
Performance are the same.

I'd be more interested in any difference in power consumption between the respective die sizes.

If there is a difference in the performance/battery, how will Apple know unless there's a special code within the phone's serial number?

if you are debating to get 6s or 6s Plus, this is another reason to get 6s plus. you will have better chance to get Samsugn chip with 6s Plus.
And who said the Samsung chip is any better ?
Do you know who TSMC is and how long are they in the business?
If this is the case why does it deserve so much attention on MR's front page? The fact that you're dedicating space to it will naturally make some people believe it matters.
Easy : it's a click bait, and MR knows it very well...
I know that MR loves this typical forum's hysteria ....
Feel sorry for the people who got the crappier chip after paying so much for the phone...
And which is the crappy chip ?

I guess mine is Samsung too. We have identical scores.

How many GHz is your processor? I've seen some with 1.79 GHz & 1.82 GHz.
Is it possible that people haven't a clue of what are they speaking of???
Don't you know that if you repeat the test several times you are going to get several slightly different results?
That's not related to the manufacturer of the SoC...
This forum is amazing....

I have a TSMC phone! No wonder my battery doesn't last a day!

How to get the more energy efficient Samsung chip? Can I just walk into my local Apple Store and demand a new Samsung iPhone?
Omg .... Are you serious???

I can't in good conscience use a iPhone 6s with a Samsung manufactured A9
Me too. I threw away my 6splus just because of the possibility it has anything samsung in it. I once accidentally bought a samsung tv and then threw it away. I thought about naming my cat Sam, but rejected that idea as it reminded me of samsung. I can't even bring myself to capitalize samsung even though is a proper name, or perhaps an improper name.

In reality, I don't give a darn which chip I have. It makes NO practical difference. Anyone who things otherwise is just plain silly and absurd. More heat, faster, better battery life? Hooey. No one could tell any real difference.

I feel sick to my stomach knowing I paid the same amount of money for an inferior iPhone. Yes, I know it's only 1% difference, but think of it this way: What if you did work for me and I just randomly decided to pay you 1% less, after all, it's only 1%! Would you agree to that?

Didn't think so.
I really hope you are being sarcastic...
There is no 1% difference...
Guys , how can we be sure this "tool/utility " is a real one and really measure / detect the CPU type?! What about if it is just a generator of one of both types nothing to do with our hardware .... And it is interesting, why no other similar tools ?
You can't be sure.
As you can't be sure it is just a malware generating casual numbers while sending your personal data to a remote server....

Would be much much re responsible of MacRumors to put the Do Not Install warning at the top of the article.

Please tell me you aren't serious.

You are feeling "sick" to your stomach based on:
  • A Day-Zero rumor about different chips
  • A Day-Zero app from an unknown developer who just happens to have an app to test just this issue.
  • Benchmarks from a handful of people on a forum showing ZERO meaningful correlation between the alleged processor and benchmarks.

Seriously, I get more than 1% variance when running the benchmarking tool on my own phone, let alone the variety of models we are seeing here, running a variety of OS version (some on beta) and a plethora of unknown background apps.

You sir are panicking prematurely.

It seems a bit too convenient to me that a solitary developer just happens to be the only one with a method to report CPU model on the very day the issue is reported.

Sorry, but something smells fishy here.

FYI, I don't need to run the unsafe app to guess what I have in my AT&T iPhone 6s SG 64GB. With a geek bench score of 2546/4462 I can take a guess. My phone has been getting awesome battery life and runs great.
Given all of the above, the Chip is irrelevant no?

the other apps that will do this which will be distributed in the normal way will need to be reviewed by apple first.. that process might take a week.. i don't doubt there are already some apps to check 6s cpu in the queue.
