Will Apple bump the base iPhone 7 to 32gigs...probably not.

Why?...because they make an easy $100 more getting people to get the next step up at 64gb. If they upped the base to 32gb, a lot less people would have have paid for the next tier up.

When will Apple change the 16gb base?...probably in 2017. Not before.

Is Apple being cheap? Yes.

How about if Apple gave you a pair of digital headphones? I'm not sure why Apple should reduce the price if they removed the headphone jack but gave you better ear buds. At any rate this is hearsay until it's not.

I was just using that as an example.

And of course they will give us "better" earbuds/headphones. Is it possible to include anything worse? I guess they could reduce the build quality or packaging of them.

You are right though, that is just a rumor and for a different discussion.

64gb has replaced the 32gb at the same price point. Hopefully iPhone 7 will have three tiers, 32, 128, & 256.
Bigger is not always better. There have been problems with the bigger storage tiers as they had more trouble with indexing or whatever. 32-64-128 I would agree with.

Exactly!!!!!
They should REALLY go back to 16, 32, 64.
Who wants their extra $100 to quadruple their storage instead of double it????!
*grrr" me so angry unreasonably with Apple

/sarcasm

Wow...

I know you are being sarcastic but man did they get you. By that logic they could supply 8, 64, 128 and say "for a mere 100 dollars you get 8 times the storage!". Which is what they did with 16gb since they are the only manufacturer still supplying a high end 16gb phone.

However its not exactly fair for me to completely criticize Apple on this because if they did offer 16, 32, 64 I would have gotten less storage with an upgrade. It would still be nice (I know that sounds naive) for Apple to supply 32 base model like all other premium phones. The "burners" at 7-11 have 16gb or more! hahah.

Nope.
That is patently untrue.

That was obvious rhetoric. That was what you took away from post?

Besides throw a 32gb SD into any of those Net10 (or whatever Android devices they are selling now) and you'll have a burner from 7-11 with more than 16gb of storage. I apologize, next time I'll try to be slightly more accurate and/or specific with my exaggerated examples.

Why when profits are as fat as they are? Apple doesn't want all those people buying the low end model with 32GB of storage. Not unless prices change because they know a whole lot of people would not be paying $100, $200 extra for stoage. That amount for storage allows for even bigger profit margins.
Apple can lie and try to spin it all they want. It's about upselling and the money it brings. The 16GB model is the biggest seller for Apple NOT because that's the storage amount people want or need. It's the biggest seller because it's the lowest price for the iPhone.

As mentioned before... This ^^^

Keep in mind there are tons of iPhones sold to businesses to utilize by their staff. They'll likely buy the cheap iPhone because if nothing else, they don't care if their staff members run out of storage space taking cat pics and never prune their videos, pics and unused apps. Nor do they care if their staff get frustrated because they can't download 17 of the latest and greatest space-sucking games. They want the cheapest phone that can run iOS. So the cheapest iPhone, no matter what the capacity, will continue to sell.

And as mentioned above, the 64GB phone was offered at the same tier as the 32GB was. So in my case, if there was a 16/32/64/128 ladder, I would have ended up stepping up two levels to the 64GB level. I'm just as happy that there ISN'T a 32GB model.

C

Yup, lots of businesses will only provide a 16GB iPhone to their employees. In that case, if I were in that situation, I'd prolly go for a base level Samsung if it was a choice, or a nice iPhone 6S to complement my iPhone 6S Plus :D

In any case, I wouldn't go installing games on a company device, gotta respect their property, and don't want my personal info on it in case it gets taken away from me...

Whatever is clever.

BINGO!!!!! Got it in one. =)
The FACT is that the 16gb sells the most by far. This is 100% factual... no opinion inserted in there whatsoever.
One could pretty easily surmise that if they bumped the minimum up to 32, THAT would be the top seller. Furthermore, there would be much, much, much less people bothering to upgrade storage size at all & Apple would lose that markup they're so proud of. Soooooo.... they erase 32 as an option, make the 64 a bit more of a value proposition, & profit. There it is. Right or wrong. Like it or don't.

Of course the 16gb is the most popular model still. The earliest we will see a 32gb model as the base would be 2017, but probably a better chance with the iPhone 8 in 2018.

Apple knows that upping the base would then lose sales for the 64gb model...they're gonna milk that for all it's worth.

That's great ... and how many apps can you install with that cloud storage? Oh wait.
Last time I checked the biggest culprit of storage consumption are photos and videos

..doesn't matter if you're on limited data plan. Also, buffering.
You can set it to WiFi only...

Don't get me wrong, I think its sleazy of Apple to still carry around a 16 gig model when 32 gigs of space is just as cheap but as I've been told by some cynicist on this forum: Apple is going to do what Apple wants and we can't change any of it

Soon they will land up with 64 GB I guess. Just wait for iPhone 7 which will carry all the expected features.

again this thread ...
From a consumer point of view, there is no reason for Apple to have a base model with only 16 Gb of storage.
From a manufacturer point of view, if people keep buying the 16 Gb model, why to discharge it ? A lot of people (like me) would avoid the 64 Gb model if the base was 32 Gb.

I really hope the iPhone 7 will start from 32 GB....

I am sure Apple will finally in 2016 bump base iPhone 7 model to 32gb.

Apple TV has base 32gb model. iPad pro has base 32gb model.

They've played the 16gb base game for a long time. They know their time is up. They face a class action lawsuit for OTA upgrades not being able to iOS upgrade due to lack of storage space (the work around was to do it via iTunes).

I am sure some bored lawyer will have another class action lawsuit for Apple misleading about 4K movie recording on the 6S since Apple defaults to 1080p 30 frames a second (not even 60 frames). And they sure as heck don't default to 4K recording. Cause that would eat up the 16gb storage space big time. Some savvy lawyer would claim Apple shouldn't advertise 4K recording and claim "starring at low price 16gb being the low price "

I hope so but I wouldn't bet on it.
