If you can't hack the device, hack the user. It's easier this way.
Apple needs to find a way to detect MITM attacks; it's not going to be easy, but it's not impossible to do.
So people beware of Free WiFi at Coffee Shops and other places. You never know when it could be someone trying to hack your device or steal your data.

IOS is still probably the most secure OS around when comes to fending off Malware. But where there is a will there is a way as they say. And Apple is such a juicy target I imagine attempts to hack Iphones increases everyday.

Must have gotten tougher though. No jail break yet for 9.2.1

Good old China. Can't create or do anything productive so they have to hack others. They really are one of the worst countries on the planet.

Are you from this planet?
They make so much money by PRODUCING almost everything.
Millions of iPhones and other electronics.

They have started for years now to buy American companies with basically American generated money, so it's not so obvious how much they make.

And, maybe if you care to check Chinese history they were in many ways the first culture to invent a lot of things.

Hacking is not a Chinese phenomenon only. Russia, Rumania, Nigeria. All the countries with the esteemed Reverend's wife who wants to send everybody millions or tell you that your Paypal account is limited do this stuff.

Whomever is running iTunes/App Store is doing a piss poor job. Fire that team immediately. AppStore should be a safe place and 100% legitimate download site for apps for all iOS users. If I can't even trust anything in the AppStore that is suppose to be legit but infected with malware/Trojans/junkware then this store is no different than the google play store.

Apple seriously needs to have a meeting about their quality control. My keyboard when trying to use shortcuts sometimes doesn't work often enough to be pissed about. When I switch apps via shortcut the icons gets tabbed as if I'm holding down the keys. The keyboard doesn't even work sometimes and Ihave to disconnect and reconnect. All these issues never get fixed soon enough.

Most of the Chinese software by Chinese named people are all junk with junk 5 star ratings. Read the reviews it's absolutely crap. But I guess that 500,000+ apps title in the "Apple App Store" must be held somehow. You weed thru all the crap and you are left with about 1/3 good legitimate software.

China has a double standard rule for doing any business there. If you want to use China as a factory, you have to partner with one of their state owned companies. You SHARE IP. Or in other words they STEAL your IP then they just leave you be and take over everything else you do betraying you like a cheap whore. THis is FACT.

They have double standards for everything. They can pirate your software and do nothing about it. If you pirate their stuff they will hunt you down like a slave running away from the plantation. China is corrupt but no less than the USA. Except that they are now so good with skilled labor that everyone didn't believe they could grow this fast...but then the wealth is at the expensive of slave labor prices.

Isn't this the story for almost every single piece of Apple-related malware? It reminds me of human viruses: if you want to stay healthy, avoid making contact with people who are sick.
More like "do not take samples of their blood and have them injected into yourself"

Racist much?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Chinese_inventions

And from http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2013/sep/22/west-chinese-hackers-hysteria-naughton

The first is that it has echoes of earlier, semi-racist panics. The implicit assumption is that these oriental types are incapable of inventing stuff themselves, so in order to make economic progress they have to rip off the inventions of our clever chaps. They can't create, in other words, so they have to copy. Readers with long memories will recall that once upon a time we in the west used to say such things about the Japanese. Nikon and Canon just made inferior copies of German Leicas and Rolleiflexes. Sony just made knock-off copies of American transistor radios. And of course Datsun and Toyota cars were rust-bucket jokes.

Well, guess what? It turned out that the joke was on us. Leica very nearly went under. Rolleiflex morphed into a niche manufacturer of beautiful, expensive analogue cameras. Nikon and Canon learned how to make astonishingly good cameras and lenses and now dominate the world market. Sony became a company that for several decades was as revered for elegant design as Apple is today. And Toyota taught the rest of the world how cars should be manufactured. So much for occidental superiority.

And that highlights the other puzzling aspect of the assumption that the only way the Chinese can get on is by stealing from us. One of the most striking aspects of the engineering and science departments of elite British and American universities is the astonishing numbers of Chinese students studying in them for postgraduate degrees. I've met quite a few of these students in the course of my day job. They are uniformly hard working and many are very smart indeed. Most plan to return home after they've obtained their degrees or completed their post-doctoral research. And anybody who thinks that they are intellectually inferior to their homegrown counterparts is not paying attention.

It's possible, of course, that when these migrants return home their creativity will be stifled in some way. They may find it difficult to get venture capital, for example. Or the dead hand of local communist officialdom may squash their entrepreneurialism. But of one thing I am sure: if China doesn't become a technological innovator, it won't be for lack of talent. There may come a time when we will need to steal from them.

So in order for iOS to be infected, you need to install a 'fake' iTunes to begin with?

And don't forget that you need to download the iOS app through the fake iTunes. What I don't understand is who installs iOS apps by connecting it to their computer? Do people not have wifi? Serious question because I know I'm culturally ignorant. I can understand they may not want to install over the air because the app might be large.. but still, who uses the common practice of download to computer then transferring to the phone?

Is there a technical reason these trojans always isolated to the Chinese App Store?

You a Trump supporter?

Such a knee jerk response. Lots of people have legit beefs with China and Trump. China and Trump are not an "either or" propositions." They are independent of each other the same way:

all hammers are tools but not all tools are hammers. All Trump supporters have problems with China, but not all China detractors are Trump supporters. Got that?

The only reason I see someone trying to circumvent iTunes to get apps into their iDevice is to save a buck. I don't get why some people are willing to fork over hundreds of dollars for an iDevice and yet isn't willing to pony up a buck for an app.

Certainly no one can claim that Windows has more Malware only because it's market share is much bigger.

Slaves never got any money, as they were owned.

The people who work in China are for the most part paid prevailing wages.
Their problem (there are many) is still overpopulation and the fact that they all have to eat and support the older generation, which lives pretty long.

You cannot apply western standards to a different culture.

Yes, to the copying and corruptness, but that goes on everywhere.

Despite that, everybody who wants something produced cheap goes there. Most be worth it, so complaining about them is misguided.
Money talks!

Windows had/has more malware because it hasn't always been very secure. You can get infected fairly easily.

We're talking about one trojan on iOS right now. How many more iOS malware have there been?

Meanwhile... there have been a million viruses, trojans and other malware written for Windows over the years.

If they're eating the older generation, then the older generation can't be living too much longer....
