Ultimately the only thing that will solve this issue, or any issue for that matter, is old-fashioned troubleshooting to expose the exceptional conditions on your computer that are to blame, followed up with detailed information to me. Finger-pointing is not productive.

Thanks.
Not replying to a single issue when a lot of us email you is not productive either.

I always listen, but it's not always possible to answer. I appreciate your understanding in this regard.

Has anybody figured this out? I just downloaded 132.7 and it just sits and will not connect. I am hooked up via a ethernet cable hooked directly to my time capsule/airport extreme. Any help would be great since this seems to be a "better" version than lets say limewire.

Nobody here as got it to work. Apparently there aren't many people who can't get it to work says the developer Dave Watanabe, this thread shows otherwise.

Problem fixed -- New build. Acquisition will prompt to download when ran.

Hey guys -- seems this was a very real problem (as evidenced by all you's in this thread). Dave's put up a new build (207), and it resolved the issue for me.

Strange that this was happening though, it'd be interesting to have Dave explain to us mere mortals what happened. My Acquisition was behaving/connecting completely normal. Funny thing is, I was over at a friend's the other day who was complaining that his had completely failed to connect for a long time. I did very basic troubleshooting for him -- appzapping it and downloading it again, etc. -- to no avail. Ended up thinking something was wonky with his router, which was known to give him problems.

Then I set about clean installing my computer just yesterday. And voila, after a fresh install of OS X, instantly updated to 10.5.2, the issue bit me. I almost didn't believe it. After googling about it and reading this thread and a few other bits, I almost was convinced it had something to do with downloading and opening Acquisition for the first time on top of 10.5.2, and that it would work if opened for the first time on top of 10.5.0. So I went about clean installing for the third time in one day, downloaded Acquisition right off the bat after a clean install, and came out completely puzzled. Was very happy to see a prompt for a new version when I just opened up Acquisition. Did the update fix it for all of you guys?

Mine's finally working too!! A little slower than the previous version, but the main thing is that it is working!!

I'm glad to see it's working for all of us now. Obviously Dave was able to find something to fix that he previously said otherwise about.

I am happy too that this build worked. What I am slightly pissed about is the developer Dave Watanabe made it seem like it was the users fault that Acquisition wasn't working and informing us to change our router settings and so on.... It's all good things are working now with this new build but he needs to listen better to his customers rather than making us fix what he didn't do right in the first place. There, my rants over and I am happy things are working.

Ditto to everything you said.

Attitude

I bought the 1.x version a while ago and it was great, but also simply stopped connecting. Now, of course, I have no problem with a requirement for a paid upgrade - but to simply let the old 1.x version stop working entirely is pathetic.

Clearly the developer has an attitude. I for one will recommend to anybody everybody I know that they do NOT consider any of his products.

This guy does not know how to treat his customers.

troubleshooting tips ?

I am experiencing the same problems; it connected once and after restarts, opening ports on my router (i have a direct connection) and adjusting the firewall; i can only download older selectins at a minimum speed, but still states 'connecting..'
How can I trace where the connection fails, may Dave can open op a debugging window, tracelog.
Do all users with this problem have 10.5.2 ?

BTW: I am using build 208

one month later

ok so now it's one month later and guess what - it's not connecting AGAIN! - after several years of problem-free use now it's erratic - much frustration! if there are system issues, fine - i understand. but let us know! - i have done nothing to change my system setup since it was working - anybody else got new probs?

Bye, Bye, Bye.

I never could get any version of 2.0 working at all. I emailed, but never heard anything, so just gave up and deleted it all.

I understand not being able to respond to everyone, but his website is visible to all, and there wasn't any further help there either, so I voted with my dollar and went elsewhere.

:(

not connecting

Hello
i bought Acquisition along time ago and payed to upgrade it. I bought Mac Os 10.5 and now Acquisition will not connect on either of my Macs, macbook or intel imac.

On my macbook it woorked fine with 10.4 and now with 10.5 it doesn't work.
i have opened the ports on my router and it still dont work neither does limewire.:(

I had to pay for the upgrade. Have the current version installed yet again. I can connect but lose connection in under two minutes. Once in a great while it will stay connected for around 7 minutes. It will not reconnect once disconnected. Sometimes when it is connected the program will completely freeze up.

Wrote several emails to no avail. I did get a response the last time and was asked to supply a log? I have emailed again today and will update accordingly.

This worked for me

Go to system preferences, firewall, click advanced, and disable stealth mode. Restart Acquisition and it should connect in less than a minute.

Mine stopped working. Anyone else? I am on the latest version. Which one of these last 2 updates, 10.5.5 or Java Killed it?
