people, quit trying to update! If you all stop trying to update, then I will finally be able to update mine. :D

same crap happened last year with 2.0. I can honestly say I knew this was going to happen.

Well said....

Please take your unknowledgeable moronic-like statements elsewhere :).

Spamming the update button but server is still unavailable. Does it require a re-plug? Would that somehow make a difference?

I don't thinking reciting verses from the satanic bible would help at this point. Leave it to Apple to learn nothing from the past two years. Leave it to Apple drones to let it happen AGAIN.

Arrrggghhh

Is it a case of the server only allowing a certain number of connections at once? Is it best to just keep trying and hopefully you get a connection when someone else has completed activation (if you can get in before someone else).

I think the activation server bouncer is only letting hot blondes in.

Seems they are letting everyone activate at the highest point in the day...smart move there.

Turn off your network connection after it's got past this stage (i.e. when it starts extracting the new firmware)

Ok...unbelieveably, THIS WORKS!

Click update. When the extracting software box comes up, turn off Airport or wifi or whatever. The update runs! You can reconnect then. Mine's installing now!

Hang in there!

Just keep on spamming the update button. Worked for me after 10 or 12 attempts - a couple minutes effort.

Mine is installing as I type, the progress bar on the iPhone is slowly ticking on... fingers crossed it works first time, no problems!

cheers

re: turning the internet off, that was obviously a joke you ***** idiots!

I don't know who's the "***** idiot" but actually it does work - as long as you don't disconnect until the firmware has downloaded and is extracting, it skips the activation server connection and just installs...

Mine is just getting going now. Had to have been at least 20-30 attempts with some re-plugs just for good measure. :D

Now, I'm gonna be late for a dentist appointment. I just HAD to try one more time before I left... :p

Not really.

Click upgrade and as it is extracting package, turn off the internet to skip activation server verification.

Trust me, it works.

LOL... Working for me too... let you guys know when it finishes the update. I hope it won't want to talk to the activation server then... (ie. bricking my phone until the congestion clears)

wow...turning off my airport (wifi) during the extraction of the firmware actually worked...lol

thanks!

yup...i'm getting that message too, but honestly, anyone who says Apple is failing this needs to slap themselves silly!

how many iphones did they say have been sold 13 MILLION!?!? if 3.0 applies to the 1st gen iphone than that is a potential of 13 million downloads and I bet the majority of us geeks (as evidenced in this thread) are hitting apple's servers like fat kids on free smarties (or any other type of chocolate bar).

patience truly is a virtue.

suck it up ppl :)
