Add this with the fact that there was no public feed of the even even through they were more than capable of doing so. They wanted to keep that door open if he was able to with a much smaller, far more controlled, venue.
A few weeks ago, I visited Jobs for the last time in his Palo Alto, Calif., home. He had moved to a downstairs bedroom because he was too weak to go up and down stairs. He was curled up in some pain, but his mind was still sharp and his humor vibrant. We talked about his childhood, and he gave me some pictures of his father and family to use in my biography. As a writer, I was used to being detached, but I was hit by a wave of sadness as I tried to say goodbye. In order to mask my emotion, I asked the one question that was still puzzling me: Why had he been so eager, during close to 50 interviews and conversations over the course of two years, to open up so much for a book when he was usually so private? I wanted my kids to know me, he said. I wasnt always there for them, and I wanted them to know why and to understand what I did.

he asked him enjoy his last dinner with his children, just an assumption.
It's obvious from the tone of the keynote that they knew Steve wasn't doing well.
Gallows humour. Helps us cope, I s'pose.why must funny comments be made regarding such a sad passing?! haha

what? last dinner? the man was not on death row. he had cancer. he probably hadn't "enjoyed" any meal in weeks.

Has the reaction actually been that negative? Or is it just on these forums from people wanting a bigger screen?

Scoble claims things took a turn for the worse of the weekend so everyone know it was close: https://plus.google.com/111091089527727420853/posts/9RqvqJeC8vs
And we got a tip at 6am on Wed that one of his family members who lives in LA was told to drop everything and go to Jobs's side. And that people were gathering to pay their last goodbyes.
so no reason to believe things are not as they were announced.

I was wondering if the "Reserved" seat in the video might have been a thoughtful gesture for Steve as he must have been very sick at the time...![]()
Or maybe he really was going to attend but couldn't based on last minute health concerns.

Or possibly it was for the person who was up speaking at the time? (I believe it was Phil if I remember correctly).
