If they were supposed to be floor models, I would have assumed they would have put dust filters in the front as well as putting the USB ports near the top of the case as well as the power button close to the top where it can be easily reached.

I think they are better suited on a desk. Plus why even risk having a computer on the floor when it can get kicked or bumped into by accident. Imagine if someone accidentally bumped their shoe against a pen drive that was sticking out and bent the USB port... I dont know maybe I'm paranoid that way. My computers always go on my desk. Plus why put such a nice case where it is hidden from eyes?

Zactly. These computers belong on the FLOOR. Anyone who thinks their PowerMacs and Mac Pros belong on a desk is really fooling themselves. They have no business being up on a desk at all ever. The current Mac Pro can hold 5 or 6 drives with no modifications at all. I do not want them to change the case. The case is already perfect.

I have built several PCs in my time, currently have 4 pc cases in my basement, and I can tell you, the mac pro is no bigger than my smallest one. I wish people would stop comparing todays mac pro with yesterdays G4 case. The G4 case was the most ugliest case in the world. The mac pro case is by far the nicest. On top of that, the handles are what make it SEEM big. If the handles were not there it would be like 4 inches shorter. Its really not a big case. Look at the Dell XPS 720 case. Now that is a big freakin case.

The Mac Pro case owns...and the power underneath it is amazing.

I have another PC with a CMStacker case, and that things freakin' huge. But has lots of room.

I'm in favour of the ground based location for the Power Macs/Mac Pros. Got one at home & a couple at work and tried them on the desk, but it looks like something from Land of the Giants. Don't get me wrong - love the style of the case, just think it looks a bit blatent putting something that (apparently) big on the desk.

As soon as the kids start pushing play-doh through the grill, I'll move in on up, I guess ;)

I am looking to buy a Mac Pro towards the end of the year. But, if there isn't an update for it then I won't be buying it until there is.

I plan on decking out the system pretty heavily, so I want to make sure its going to be one that I enjoy for a few years. The current look isn't bad, its just rather dated.

Harpertown Stoakley-Seaburg Mac Pro - Please Sell ASAP

I have been waiting for a long time to buy this Mac Pro with up to date video cards. Please try to put it up for sale ASAP without regard to marketing strategies. Ready to buy the top of the line 8 core Mac Pro when you are ready to sell it with modern video cards please. Please don't wait 'til MacWorld Expo Mid January. Please ship it in November or December ASAP. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE.

My message to them:

I have waited for months now for a new Mac Pro to be released. I have been using my Macbook to get by, but I require more power for my needs. I certainly hope that a new Mac Pro debuts sometime in October or November. At this point in time, I can not justify the purchase of the current Mac Pro, between the last generation of video card choices and the new line of Intel Xeon Quad-Core processors, which are slated to be released on November 12th, it makes it impossible for me to justify the purchase of a Mac Pro right now.

I hope that the new line of Mac Pros will all feature two Quad-Core "Penryn" Xeon processors, a minimum of 2GB of RAM, and a choice of high-end video cards (i.e. ATI 1GB X2900XT or the 768MB nVidia 8800GTX - either single or dual video card solutions), and a minimum of a 500GB hard drive (and/or a choice for a 160GB 10,000 rpm Western Digital Raptor as the main OS/Applications drive).

Is there a time frame for a debut of a new Mac Pro? I hope my long wait pays off soon with a new generation of the Mac Pro.

Thanks.

Wow, I remember reading Multimedia's posts reguarding an update to the Mac Pro last year. I was waiting, and waiting, and waiting, until I finally caved in May and bought a Quad 3 Ghz. I love the machine.

I hope it's not too much longer for everyone waiting still. This is pretty funny nonetheless.

Uh does Multimedia work for Apple? Didn't think so. It's all rumors around here, no one knows when the new one will come out. Except Jobs and the people working on the Mac Pro who are under NDA.

But good purchase! Enjoy

I can't figure out why some of you are cracking it. harpertown/seaburg isn't shipping yet... so what do you expect a new Mac Pro to update to? being tied to Intel means that Apple is subservient to Intel's timelines for new platforms. You're better off reading PC forums about when new Intel stuff is coming out... that will give you a clue when new Apple stuff is likely.

Personally i hope the Mac Pro uses the Skulltrail platform, as then I can run full speed SLI on it for my Vista on Bootcamp (one can dream I guess).

We know it isn't shipping. We know the timeline. Check the other threads. Most people aren't expecting an update today. However, Apple has gotten things early before. So it is possible although unlikely for something to happen this week. My guess is still with Leopard.

Speaking of being informed you should know full well that the Skulltrail is not going to be in the Mac Pro. Whether it be a dream or not, telling people they should go read PC forums but them spewing off some unrealistic wish (more so than people hoping for something today) is annoying to say the least.

Why use an OS way behind Leopard? ;)

Also, from what I read and have seen in the past (Intel 8-Core Zeon), Apple receives exclusive parts before they are released to the public.

Woah steady on the angry pills!! As for getting stuff early, that was only 3 Ghz quad Xeons. only 1 example. Apple had to wait until the Santa Rosa platform came out to update the iMac and the laptops, so I wouldn't assume that Apple automatically gets priority access for everything Intel has.

And whats wrong with dreaming that Skulltrail ends up in the MacPro? It would be perfect for a lot of people who for whatever reason have to straddle or choose to straddle windows/Mac. So what you're saying is one cannot have a wishlist without your approval? O my apologies then your 1337ness.

And Pc forums are very useful now. hate on them all you like, but they have more/better info on upcoming Intel stuff. Some of the guys on xtremesystems get engineering samples and happily talk about what performance to expect. I wouldn't be the only person here who reads both this forum and PC forums.

the occasional game.... and Windows programs (not my fault if there aren't mac versions).

They were the first to introduce a Core Duo notebook with the MacBook Pro and the first to use the Mobile X7900 2.80Ghz chip also.

Well they may have been first, but the Core Duo was officially released jan 5. The MBP was jan 10, so it wasn't before official release which is the point I was making. Mobile X7900... you got me there, i think they beat the official release by 3 weeks.

Hardly angry...

I didn't say you couldn't have a wishlist. I just said you of all people should know how unrealistic Skulltrail is in a Mac Pro. And that wish is way more unrealistic than expecting Mac Pros this week.

I am a member at many places, including Xtreme, Anand, Pcper, hardforums, etc.

And as you see, they did get things early. Besides that, OEMs get parts before they go retail.

But then again, who else have been permitted to get access to unannounced product in the first year of having switched to the x86 platform and especially Intel products? None...

I love my Mac Pro just the way it is.

Of course, my opinion is biased because I don't need any fast graphics cards.... I actually have just three simple GeForce 7300 cards in my Mac Pro; for my research, I don't need the (hotter and faster) options Apple currently offers.

(I'm ducking for cover now. Please don't throw tomatoes or sharp objects at me.)

In all honesty, I do appreciate that many of you are patiently waiting. "Multimedia" probably deserves the first place in line when the Mac Pro is finally upgraded.... I know he is leading the community of people who are patiently waiting, and I respect his patience a lot.

i like mine as well. except for a few crashes.

i don't need a fast graphics card either, but that doesn't mean i don't want one. if they ever start shipping mac games....my needs might change.

I never play games on my Mac Pro. I just use it to compute.

If I had time to play games, it is more fun to head home and play with my children, so that's what I do at the end of the day. No gaming for me on my Mac Pro.
