Bro... I criticize and critique Apple all the time Lol. But have you read the comments on this article? People are literally bashing ATV+ without even having watched any of the shows. Yes Siri pales in comparison to the competition, but my point is that Apple does so many other things well and a LOT of their products/services improve o

How much time/money has Apple invested in Siri? Who knows. How much money and how much talent has Apple invested in ATV+? A LOT.

Yes I expect a lot from Apple because of their tenure and cash pile, but USUALLY things get better even if they don’t start out great. We will see.

I can't speak to specifically why people are bashing Apple TV+. I don't think one can assume things will get better even if it doesn't start out great, i.e. Apple News+, Siri, Air Power (never saw the light of day), Pippen (Apple's gaming system), Butterfly keyboard, and Macintosh TV).

I understand why Apple needs to diversify its business; however, its services sector has been a mixed bag of results. Apple Music appears to be doing well. Apple Arcade shows good promise. AppleNews + has been a missed.

Apple's wearables has been one of their most recent successes that is paying off and helping to offset the iPhone sales decline.

Despite having all the 'kit' and having £5 spare available per month. Its still a no.

Theres no appeal, unlike netflix with some brilliant shows- which we can watch on any device. Amazon Prime is a Bonus to my amazon account. And now TV we get as a month pass when there's a series to watch (GoT).

Apple TV+ just seems..... forced.

Does this opinion factor in the included 1 year subscription for new devices?

That is 60$ per device for a user that actually will watch any of the content. Also selling new devices = selling included subscriptions, so iPhone ads also contribute to Apple TV+ marketing.

You can be sure that Apple will book $50 per iPhone sale to Apple TV+. So it will look like that services area goes very well.

Same tricks as with the free, 3-month Apple Music trials, which are counted towards "paying subscriptions".

It's not great so far, and that's putting it mildly. Netflix puts out stuff like Daybreak with mostly unknown actors (aside from Matthew Broderick in this example) and it is better than anything on Apple TV+ right now. If anything, Apple TV+ has just reaffirmed how much better Netflix/Hulu/Prime are in my life (with the occasional HBO to catch up on series). I'm not completely giving up on it, but it would be a hard sell if it wasn't practically free because someone in my family group is always getting a new Apple product each year.

Apple needs to incorporate a live streaming tv service (like YouTube TV, Playstation Vue, etc) into Apple TV+. Then people will subscribe.
That would definitely be the logical thing to do and would probably light a fire under Spectrum, Comcast, etc. to significantly lower their outrageous prices.

They're making this all their channel, but they need some more content. That said, if they roll these out one show each weeknight that's reasonable. $5 is certainly worth 20 hours of programming.

If they add a few new shows every few months, they'll have a nice library in a year.

All of this is IF you like the shows, if you don't then you shouldn't subscribe. The same goes for other streaming services.

It'd be nice if they had some more movies, or had some movie of the week (kids, mystery, action, scifi, romance). Even if it was just something from their 99 cent rentals it would add some variety to the lineup and they could list 30 movies in addition to their series (maybe the week before it's 99 cents so if people miss it, it's an option). https://www.blu-ray.com/deals/?sortby=price&category=ituneshd_rental

I do understand that someone else's movies is diluting their brand and that could be a problem (but since they haven't established a brand yet that's iffy).

Disney+ will crush Apple TV+ based on available content alone. Verizon is giving away a 1 year subscription to Disney+; I'll take that any day over Apple TV+.

I understand why Apple feels they need to jump into the streaming service. However, building content from the ground up is a bad move. In this aspect they aren't an industry leader but an industry follower. Apple would have been better off acquiring Netflix or some other streaming service.

I don't think Apple is trying to be an industry leader in TV content, but instead provide some exclusive content that is only available within the Apple ecosystem. This drives hardware sales and helps to expose more people to the Apple experience that otherwise may not have considered it.

The tough part for Apple is relying on 100% original content. Wonder how long they can keep it at 5 bucks and make a business out of it with little content?

That’s the thing, who’s to say that they won’t open it up to other content in the future? This project is definitely ambitious, but they actually have a lot of shows and films coming. It won’t be as empty next year.

They might be able to bring over some iTunes content into the fold. Who knows.

Dead on arrival. Nobody wants the watered-down milquetoast programming that Tim Cook approves. It's like living inside the politically correct, mind-numbingly simplistic blasé universe of a 2019 Apple keynote address.

Boring!
If you’re going to believe everything you read, you need to read more. Turns out that was just a BS rumor, started by the Apple-hate crowd.

BINGO. This is the best take on #MeToo I've seen - and I too think critics have an issue with the more complex view - seeing it from both sides.

I really don't want to get involved in this discussion because I think too many people abuse these types of movements, and The Morning Show feels like a good example of that happening. Consensuality (not a word!) being turned around and used against a person, from a point of pure coldness and cruelty. But that's just me and is not meant to downplay the truly harmful and abusive experiences some people have had. I'm by no means an authority on this topic and won't be commenting on it further, but this show really paints it clearly for me.

I'm pleasantly surprised by how good The Morning Show is after watching two other series that felt too pushed. But they also have a killer lineup for this show. Top talent.

I have watched all 3 sessions of The Morning Show, and all 3 of For All Mankind, and for all of the critics saying the programming isn't good, I would respond with the programming is better than more than half of the garbage that it on TV now. Does it compare to Netflix or Amazon prime? No, not yet, but have a little patience. As for showing Jennifer Anniston, so what? Maybe some older face-lifted hag would look better? Two choices, take the first week free, pay 4.99 and cancel with no contract, and move on. Your opinion counts of course but don't boo hoo those of us who so far like whats on.

I have so far only watched the 2 free episodes of For All Mankind (waiting for my $90 ATV4K to be shipped so I can activate my 1-year trial) and I think it's great, easily up there with many HBO shows.

In terms of quality Netflix isn't all that good IMO. They have a few great original shows, but also a lot of cheap dreck.

It doesn't take a genius to know that content is king. Tim was either clueless, asleep at the wheel or too fixated on other products.
Frankly, I'm not sure developing original content is in Apple's 'DNA'. But with billions of cash in the bank, they have a huge runway and can play the long game.

"They were late to the game, they've underinvested in content and they have a lot of room to make up."

Original content may not be in Apple’s DNA, but it’s in Van Amburg’s and Erlicht’s. They’re the ones making the programming decisions, and they have an excellent track record.

re: Apple being late to the game, we’ve heard that many times over the years. Maybe, maybe not, but plenty of people don’t think they should be in the game at all. Only time will tell.
