How do these dumbasses expect me to not share my account if they only include 4K in the „Premium“ tire with 4 accounts as a couple household that only really needs 1 account ? clearly account sharing is already included in their ridiculous 20$ plan.

They are also the only ones charging extra for HD/4K … ??

I wonder how they plan to „crack down“ on account sharing. People do travel or might be away for work during the week or outside, watching on mobile data ??‍♂️

I also miss those days when Netflix released like ONE Netflix Original every other month and you knew it was going to be good instead of 473828284747 shows each month that you never even heard of until the cancellation has been announced.

Music piracy mostly disappeared because streaming services like Spotify & Music created a easier and more enjoyable experience. Netflix is making the user experience harder and less enjoyable.

If people can have a more enjoyable experience for free, piracy will remain alive and well.

If everyone decides to pirate, there is no money for new content creation. The quality of YouTube amateur programming will become the prime source of new content. Yeh, that'll show 'em.

Piracy only works when relatively few do it. When everyone does it, there becomes nothing worth pirating. Apparently the future we covet has us loving pretty much exactly what Netflix has generally delivered: already in the can stuff that requires no new production expense.

The whole stream vs account thing is complicated. Let’s say you are a single household with two adults and two kids and you all are watching something different on your personal device. It seems reasonable that Netflix allows a single household this option. But once you take advantage of extra streams and share outside of your family it seems reasonable for Netflix to charge extra for that. BUT, the current price of their service is too expensive for a single family and so most people are splitting the bill for it to become reasonable. if they prevent sharing then reduce the price to $12/month or something and please get rid of different as/hd/4K options.

I repeat @Netflix, people are only paying these prices because they can and are sharing their account.

Probably time to cancel them anyway and just sign up for when they have a series I like.
Ridiculous they want to charge for 4K when everyone else provides it at no additional cost.

Netflix’s business model is doomed at their price point.

It made sense when they had everyone else’s content, but they aren’t worth $20 when you also need to pay $5 for Parks & Rec on peacock, $5 for Star Trek on Paramount, $10 for the Sopranos on HBO, etc.

They didn’t evolve as the rest of the industry formed around them.
Nah, they did the right thing by focusing on original content cos it was only a matter of time before content providers created their own streaming services and took back their rights. The problem is threefold: lack of a cheaper ad-supported option, rampant password sharing, and Netflix’s original content has gone downhill fast.

It looks like they’re moving to address the first 2 issues. The last one is harder to fix.
However, they’re not the only ones with that issue. Hollywood is creatively bankrupt.

They should have bought other content providers when they still had a high stock price.

I don't see how adding ads can possibly stop the bleed.

If Netflix wants to discourage password sharing, the answer is obvious. Make their plans more affordable by:
  • Every single plans should offer 4K, including $9.99 Basic plan.
  • Ad-supported plans should be significantly cheaper, as in $3.99-4.99 for the Basic plan.
  • Stop wasting money on games and garbage contents, and announce not increase the price so frequently (currently at 18 months).
  • To offset $2.99/remote stream, lower the $15.49 Standard to $13.99 and $19.99 Premium plan to $17.99.

I don't like Netflix anymore. Proudly cancelled my subscription long time ago.

The company has gotten greedy and they are charging for every little thing you can think of.

Apple TV+ for the win :)
What makes Apple TV+ any better? It's the same thing as almost all the streaming services: either low quality content or not enough content. For Netflix, it's mostly the former and Apple mostly the latter (arguably both). At least Apple hasn't started raising prices... yet.

Agree with the crackdown on account sharing.

Unfortunately, YOUR monthly bill is going to have to go up, to cover the loss from my cutting a 12 month subscription to 3 months per year. Netflix is already overcharging me for what they provide, compared to other services. This is a great opportunity to rethink my subscriptions and make Netflix just another player in the rotation.

Amazing; you get LESS value when you pay into a subscription than you would by pirating content.

The crackdown on account sharing thing is so absurd. What's the difference between two people in the same house watching something on Netflix and two people in different houses? The cost to Netflix is the same.

If someone buys a Premium plan for $19.99/month and shares the account with four other friends or households, each can end up only having to pay $5/month (half the price of a $9.99 basic plan) plus get HD and Ultra HD in the process.

If they didn't want people doing this they shouldn't have allowed multiple streams in the first place.

Since not everyone in the same household wants to watch the same thing at the same time, Netflix gave customers the option to have multiple screens in use simultaneously for less than having to subscribe to multiple $9.99 accounts.

However, I do think they should've anticipated an account/password sharing issue.
