The ones who suffer the most are the ones flip flopping between devices and never settling for the one thing based on whatever. Those are the people who should be reconsidering what a place like this does for them and why they're even buying the stuff to begin with.

Them and the people who get into endless arguments.

No, don’t upset those who celebrate their shallow consumerism here. Buy Apple stock, get popcorn, enjoy

MacRumors is the best site ever. It's better than reddit or any other site.
I don't know why I keep coming here though.
There is a quality control here and some humor pops up every day.
since we all use computers and device, we can use all the help that is there.
and this site has good wholesome members

Ive been coming here since the days of the first iPod. Great community of people here. I remember an XMradio community that was awesome too.

I think it has something to do with the Macrumors personality. We like to share thoughts and discuss what's new in Apple and other technology, as well as a variety of other topics of interest. It's great to share and learn from each other, especially in this increasingly sequestered world. It does provide kind of a refuge from the isolation we currently have to live in.
But I could read a book instead of being here.

I come here for the community. Effective moderators keep the huckleberries in line, and the rest of the members are very interesting and respectful. That is a rare thing on the 'net these days.

Yep!

I really have no idea why I keep coming here, I know I like Apple but what’s the reason we all follow Apple news, anyone have an idea?

Btw I’m from Turkey and I’m open to questions.

It really feels good to be here after a long day.

Glad the online community is able to give you a reprieve in your day.

MacRumors Forums, at the root, are about discussions. Those happen on all topics under the sun, even though they may be leaning towards a prejudice towards the Apple ecosystem. However, this is one of the most balanced communities on the internet. People here are generally nice, conduct themselves well, and are open to everyone and all ideas.

About why we gather here, I believe it is only about being a congregation of like-minded ideas. It doesn't have to be about Apple. It is just about technology, or anything, considering nearly all the sub-forums here are equally passionate and lively. The point of all this is to gain information, to gain knowledge, and to share what we know from our understanding and experiences. Sometimes, it is simply about sharing our latest purchases, sometimes it is about what are we listening to, sometimes it is about what we are thinking!

Welcome to the community at MacRumors.

But I could read a book instead of being here.

Yes, you could. That is the choice you will have to make. Going by your questions and leanings, I suggest philosophy and psychology, something that takes you closer to understanding the meaning of and to life.

Now you’re making wayyyyy too much sense before I had a second coffee!
Yes, sigh.

Perhaps.

Nevertheless, agreed, it is, indeed, high time for a second coffee; for that matter, I haven't yet had mine, and my first cup of coffee is long finished.

And, surely - well, I would argue that it is, or can be, so - in this life (whatever about any others) - it is possible to live a rich, complex, occasionally contradictory and ethical existence, one that includes both fountain pens and computer (not forgetting piano and harpsichord) keyboards, immersing onself in books while also stealing away to visit the alluring wonders of the online world, maintaining face to face relationships and also those sustained by telephone or online communication.

Anyway, to my mind, the one does not exclude the other....

Well, I would argue that it is not a case of "either/or"; in fact, it is perfectly possible for you to do both, read books, and pay a visit - or frequent visits - to this site.
This is an essential argument that applies to just about anything that a lot of people do not seem to understand. There was another discussion you and I had once about priorities. Some people seem to think that when X happens in their life it means they have to give up Y or do Z instead.

As previously stated in this thread, I've done everything else (school, wife, kids, home) and yet never gave up the things I've always been interested in. Because certain things are priorities to me I make the time and the space for them. As long as no one or nothing else is shortchanged, what does it matter? I could be in a bar drinking and coming home drunk.

Instead, my wife knows exactly where she can find me…downstairs in front of a computer. It is possible to both do what you want while handling life - at the same time. Neither is exclusive to the other.

Since joining in August, I've visited these forums every day, even if I don't necessarily post each day. It's sort of odd in one way--I'm not actively using Apple anything at the moment, and it's anyone's guess if that will ever change. But I find vintage stuff interesting (having used a lot of it as a daily driver--this is what influenced my choice of user names). And I do like to stay informed about the Apple world. And some of the off topic discussions are interesting.

I used to come here far more often before PRSI was shut down, which I personally think was a shame, particualrly since discussion of current news can be just as snarky on occasion. Anyway, I come here less and less, but it does help me keep up to date with Apple news, and a bonus is that the people posting here are generally intelligent and informed, and in most cases productive discussion can be had with them. In contrast, I visit some sites that present news and allow people to comment. In those sites there are people who seem wilfully ignorant and just want to troll, so gradually over time I am reducing my online contact with social media and online forums.
