Works 95% of the time. Scan your fingers picking up the phone the way you normally hold it.

Occassionally the phone won't recognize my fingerprint when I get an notification and want to unlock from the lock screen (fixed by pressing the power button and trying again). Otherwise it works perfectly.

The only time my sensor doesn't work is when my fingers are wet. Otherwise, it works great. I'd say 95% of the time it works on the first try, and on rare occasion I have to do it twice. It's wayyy way better than typing a password.

I've never had any issues with it, and I never had to re-register a finger.

It's fast and accurate, it saves time when unlocking, it encouraged me to use a more secure, longer password (instead of a 4 digit passcode), and it makes purchasing and downloading apps easier.

I think it's great. A success! I find it even more useful than when the iPhone 4S came out with Siri. I only used Siri to ask dumb things like "where can I hide a body?". I actually use Touch ID frequently.

The only thing I can think of is that the sensor detection is very shallow. So if my finger gets dry it won't read it. It can't distinguish between dry skin and a fingerprint. Or maybe we all have faulty phones.

What do you mean by "we all"?? Because the vast, vast majority (including myself) have no issues whatsoever with the Touch ID. I have over 90% success in any conditions. It's an awesome feature...And one I wouldnt easily adjust to not having.

Let's all admit it, the fingerprint sensor on the 5s sucks. I have to re-register my fingerprint every couple of days. Everyone I know that has a 5s says the same thing. My wife has stopped using it all together. Meanwhile, the fingerprint reader on my thinkpad which is like 3yrs old still can read my fingerprint every time.

Why does this fingerprint reader on the 5s suck so bad?

fine with no issues here. Its never missed a read for me. Yours is defective.

I have tried to use the sensor no less than 6 times and it has NEVER worked well for me.

I never leave my phone where it could be stolen so I do not even use a password. I have never lost a phone or had it stolen since the days when cell phones were small enough to carry.

Use it if you like but it is not for me.

95% is not good enough for many.

Mine fails frequently now. I'm considering just turning it off and typing in my code manually. Then I won't have to be annoyed by the jiggly 'Try again' over and over.

95% is more than a good results for many. Why does it not work for you? You are a prime target for thieves and not putting a lock on your phone is just...well, asking for trouble. For your info, Touch ID is much better on the 7.1 betas, perhaps you should give it another try then...and take off those gloves and give it a chance.

True, but the closer someone's expectations are to 100% the more they will be disappointed. One failure out of 20 seems reasonable for an optical technology in an uncontrolled environment. Personally my success rate is much higher than 95%.

Why does it not work for you?

Good question. Just because I don't have a problem doesn't mean it works for someone else and you asked the right question. From this forum the Twitter app caused Touch ID some problems, and then there are people like my wife who technology hates. She doesn't have good luck with Touch ID.

I most certainly will not! It works fine for me. You're holding it wrong.

Mine works great. My issue is that immediately after unlocking my phone resprings about 15% of the time. Really hoping iOS 7.1 solves that.

No issues here. I have a corporate profile on my phone forcing me to use a complicated password. It is a god send for me!

You have been listening to you government too long. I do as I wish and I guess I love living on the edge. Such a thrill each day to walk out in the dangerous world and wonder which thug is going to try and assault me for my phone. :p

My touch ID works fine

I've found that mine is great, I programmed in both thumbs and three of my fingers and the only time it's unreliable is when I've just had a bath (after I've dried)!

I too am having major issues with the finger print reader. I also have to add new "fingers" every few days now. This, for me, is a recent phenomenon.
