Mostly it works...... I find that if the finger has any moisture, it tends to suck.

5s touch id

I have had the same problem from day one. I have to keep re-doing my fingers after acouple of days. I thought it was because my thumbs aren't all nice and smooth. I set up with more of my fingers but the same thing happened. I went back to my iphone5 case because the Touch ID was useless to me.

I guess Apple need not bother with the fix that is about to come out then.

No. It doesn't. Set it up correctly and you'll be fine. I've had my 5s since launch and have seen the text "Try Again" around 2-4 times.

Over five months that's not bad at all.

Must be your iPhone.

Mine works consistently now after registering my fingers twice so you have two copies of same finger. Register first one as you would normally and do the second one mostly for finger tips.

Let's all admit it, the fingerprint sensor on the 5s sucks. I have to re-register my fingerprint every couple of days. Everyone I know that has a 5s says the same thing. My wife has stopped using it all together. Meanwhile, the fingerprint reader on my thinkpad which is like 3yrs old still can read my fingerprint every time.

Why does this fingerprint reader on the 5s suck so bad?

Not admitting it because I do not agree. With a single scan of my thumb I get 90 to 95% success rate. I put a second scan of my thumb and it's 99% now if not 100%.
