Adobe Adds New Features to Creative Cloud Apps

Has anybody got a good replacement for Lightroom? I won't switch to their cloud-based version because I don't want to move my entire photo library to Adobe's cloud, and though Lightroom Classic still receives updates, it's definitely not where Adobe is investing their resources.

What are the primary differences between Lightroom and something like Photos? Organizational capabilities? Or editing?

Anything to make cutting out hair easier

These seem like welcome additions. The pattern creation tool could be very useful

Best bloated software ever made!!!

Complaining about Adobe software is like renting an expensive car and complaining about that.
If you don't like it - don't use it. Luckily their are other options available though none quite as feature filled or as popular

Maybe for someone who uses it for cropping pictures and such basic operations. A lot of Adobe software is industry standard, and if you use it professionally and have a lot of open/working files to exchange with clients/other studios/agencies etc, it's extremely difficult to switch to some other option at this time.

Oh baby, that Select Subject Portrait in PS is fantastic. I'm constantly dealing with trying to select around hair.

Also all of the people on this site that just need to talk **** on Adobe, gtfo already. For a lot of users here, our employers pay for us to use the software. Stop complaining about software we use to make a living already ffs.

To think all this time I thought I needed photo library management and professional level color grading, when what I really should have been using was Instagram filters.

You can always report those awful people to moderator.

...for nearly 20 years, I can attest to this firsthand. When I first started in my industry, you needed a very capable machine to use the entire suite of apps effectively (along with all the Macromedia apps, which is what many of us designers and developers had to do in the early days). Now I can run the entire Creative Cloud library on everything from my Mac Pro, down to the MacBook Air...

A MBA is equally or more powerful than any top tier machine from 15-20 years ago. Don't confuse computers getting every year more and more powerful with a suite requiring less hardware every year. I'm not using any Adobe product right now (but Affinity ones) so I can't judge if Adobe actually did any meaningful optimization or even rewrote their code during the years, but what is sure is your statement totally misleading and proves nothing

I cannot stand Adobe's software model. It's a goldmine for them, but an awful deal for consumers. I would like to purchase the license outright and not be locked into yet another subscription. This is why I'm using the Affinity suite of apps, which I would recommend unless you must use Photoshop and other Adobe offerings.

I've been happy with DxO PhotoLab for the last few years after ditching my CC subscription.

Subscription model theoretically should be perfectly fine for companies or individuals with decent and stable income. The problem lies in the fact that you don't get what you're paying for.

I don't understand this.. years ago Photoshop Extended used to cost $1000, thats a huge up front investment for someone starting out. Now you can get the same software for $20 per month, that would take over FOUR YEARS to hit the same cost. But you also get all the upgrades included, whereas before you would have to pay.

Took to page 2 of comments to find a real voice of reason. Just being able to select hair like that is a total game changer. Although this may all but eliminate a lot of really bad photoshop jobs, which are always fun to look at.

Except now Adobe software is basically permanently in a Beta state rather than feature complete. The bugs are just insane. For example, the previous version of After Effects had a bug that prevented Adobe Media Encoder from exporting a video from After Effects if you used any of a long list of built in effects. In other words, if you used an EFFECT in After EFFECTS, you couldn't export the video. Took them over a month to fix it.

They removed multicore rendering from After Effects years ago and never added it back (and the only option is to buy a 3rd party plugin if you want to use the extra cores in your CPU...otherwise, After Effects STILL really only takes advantage of a single core). GPU acceleration barely does anything at all.

Premiere Pro is basically unusable if you are running a 4K monitor (or higher) because it slows down to a crawl, unless you shrink the window down to 1/4 size, as it appears it was only ever designed to operate with a 1080 tall window.

So many problems. It's pretty stupid.

Facts are facts, you can check their own forum; their products are full of bugs. Illustrator is the best example, repetitive crashes, and it consumes a lot of ram, it’s bloated, the performance is poor, a bug fixed create new ones, and a big etc.

It’s nice you get payed for using bloated software, but it doesn’t change anything when is about software quality.

It may be an awful deal for you but some like to keep up to date on the latest version, it now costs less with the subscription than it did buying the upgrades every year. If you don't upgrade as frequently it is different but choice is good.
