A question from someone not-so-familiar with the higher-end audio editing tools.

Adobe says:
and new features such as native 5.1 surround support and new effects

5.1 is new? How is 7.1 edited then?

Awesome Video! 64-bit doesn't really matter if the application is fast, remains responsive, and has some level of future proofing (avoiding deprecated APIs or at least wrapping them so they can be easily replaced when needed)

I dug the dude in the video. He even added sound effects!

How can this be I ask you? I mean if you look at the rest of the forum every time MR posts something on Adobe, Mac users call Adobe a dying company that no longer innovates or develops competent products for OSX.

But they easily forget and forgive Jobs for not keeping up development on FCP and other pro-apps. So they will sing the praises until Uncle Jobs throws them another mail claiming the next pro-apps will blow our socks off.

For the users b*tching about Audition for Mac being 32bit, deal with it and remember that Adobe was the one that brought you 64bit professional media apps long before Jobs sent any email talking about buckling up.

QFT

And Durin, thanx for trying to communicate with the most hostile mac board on earth. I'm really sorry that I'm still part of this community which has deteriorated into some iToy hyping platform rather than credible and helpful Mac board.

You **** and learn how to decipher sarcasm. My post is in support of Adobe and opposing the Mac trolls that live and die on the words of Steve Jobs. AGAIN, Adobe is the only true media software company developing REAL 64 bit apps for OSX which obviously Apple and Jobs cannot seem to do.

Wow, haters gonna hate on someone excited about cool software. I'll take a friendly, energetic speaker any day. I've done countless tutorials where someone is speaking as if bored, or clearly knows their stuff but can barely muster enough energy to speak.

He did a great job. More power to him.

Umm, you just ripped into Swagi who quoted you for truth (QFT). You know, he was agreeing with you and admonishing the haters? Wowzers.

Couldn't hurt to check it out, but I doubt I'll be switching from Logic.

Switching from Logic? Doubtful since this isn't really intended as a midi app. But I bet many will consider switching from Soundtrack Pro.

Yup, which is more than we can say for Apple's FCS!

And especially appropriate in this case, STP.

With other apps. For the record, the new hardware-less Pro Tools charges an extra $2000 for ANY surround mixing, so 5.1 for $349 looks pretty good.

Wow. You really couldn't reply without googling "QFT" first and making a fool of yourself. Hint: that guy was agreeing with you, nice deciphering there.

HAHA My bad. I thought QFT was Quit ******** Talking. My sincere apologies to Swagi. I feel embarrassed now. I'll galdly take 50 lashes fine Sire.

THIS GUY HAS TO LAY OFF THE CAFFEIN. wow son.

That was the first thing I said to myself
Sort of cool demo though

Still on Audition 1.5

Great news! I've been using it since Syntrillium Cool Edit 96 - before it went pro. haha.

Who needs Audition 3? I'm still using Audition 1.5 (PC version) on mac with crossover and it works great for small editing. I'll give the mac version a try later this week.

AU and VST support?

Hi Durin,

Thanks for chiming in. I have downloaded Audition and would like to know if AU and VST support is already working. Audition can't seem to find my plugins, which reside in an iLok. Can you please confirm? (MacBook Pro 2.6Ghz C2Duo Penryn, 6Gb RAM, 10.6.4)

Thanks for a great product.

Adobe needs to bring back Macromedia's Soundedit. Probably one of the best audio editing software out back in the day. :D

There should be no problem with iLok protected plug-ins. In the Audio Plug-ins Manager dialog, you can select the folder to search and if they require a dongle, it should check during the scan process. As for AU effects, most should work as expected, though we do block the non-audio related effects and the synthesis effects. If you run into others that come up during a scan but fail to load or launch, please let us know so we can either fix the issue or block them properly.

Scanning the VST and AU directories from the plugin manager is a real adventure. Many, many crashes on incompatible VST's & AU's (that work fine in other programs) but upon relaunch it skips them next time, but this could take hours of run the VST/AU scan, crash on one, restart, eliminate that one, re scan from the beginning again, crash etc , etc. Very tedious. It should just automatically make an entire blacklist. I sure hope this blacklist is saved from this beta to the final. Did I mention tedious?

Now that it finally finished, the list of VST and AU effects that did scan ok don't even show up in the effects menu. Where are they?

Also small MP3's take an excessively long time to open.

How many people produce podcasts with 5.1 channels?

Not many... but there is more to Audition than just 5.1 stuff.

Its noise reduction really is very, very, good, and I've been using it for Classical CDs for about 6 years. It's the one reason I still have a Windows PC :)

Now, for the average Podcaster sitting in his bedroom, it probably won't add much to the mix (if you'll pardon the pun), but for anyone who records live in a noisy environment, there's a lot it can do to clear up background noise provided you remember to leave a bit of "just background" in the recording so that it can sample the noise profile properly.

I've heard this too - that its custom filters are the best in DAWs of this price bracket. I won't be switching from Logic Express as it's fine for the projects I work on (guitars + POD Farm, VDrums + BFD2) but I know a few people who have been waiting on this move.

Not wanting to rekindle any Apple vs Adobe nonsense, but the way in which Adobe are engaging with the online communities at the moment is refreshing, especially compared with Apple's wall of silence. I'm using the beta of Adobe Story, and I know my feedback is being taking seriously. I wish more software companies operated this way.

Ok Durin. Pass on this bit of feedback. Tell that guy in the video to stop referring to the general public as "my friends". We are not his friends but rather potential customers of his employer.

And here is some feedback for YOU, my friend.

That terminology is a general greeting, not to be taken literally as you have done. He could have said, "Hey there dudes and dudettes.", "Hey there boys and girls", "Hey everybody.", or whatever generic greeting there is out there.

You sir, are just a bit too anal. Relax.

Don't know if it's possible...but those with nothing to say about Audition, with just critique...any chance you could join or start a different thread?

I'm a HUGE fan of Audition/Cool Edit...I, too, have been using it for well over a decade, and it's the last reason for a partition on our MacPro in the studio. VERY happy to play with the Beta Release. In fact, I didn't get much sleep last night:) Thanks Adobe...and Thank you Durin for participating! Much appreciated.

I mentioned this on the Adobe forum as well...one of my most used keyboard shortcuts is Ctrl-M (on PC) to "Insert in to MultiTrack" from the Edit screen. I searched shortcuts and couldn't find it anywhere (even to address my own shortcut). I know everyone here at the radio station is also a Ctrl-M fan:) Any chance to get this added?

So far, my limited amount of VSTs are working GREAT!!! I'm very excited to play with it all weekend.

As far as transition from Beta to public release...will there be, as you've done with some of the creative suite upgrades...the possibility for those of us that have purchased the Windows version...to upgrade or cross-grade to the Mac version? Essentially eliminating our PC license for the Mac License?

I'm actually (and have been for 15 years), an employee of Clear Channel. We use Audition solely in our market for editing...and along with my air-shift and production duties, I also edit a morning show daily for syndication. I had my engineer post a company wide IT email this morning in hopes of getting other producers on board with the Beta to share stories between markets...it's been a long time coming!!! There are a LOT of us, albeit maybe quietly...excited for this release.

Thanks a lot...and much appreciated, you being here to bounce questions off of!!!

Take care...and again, those without anything constructive; negative or positive to do with the software...should start or participate in a different thread. It's not often we get such a high level representative to ask/answer questions, and to fill up a dozen posts with critique about the spokesperson in the video is juvenile, and a TOTAL waste of space and time in this THREAD> Just MyHumbleOpinion!
