That is not true. You can't use PureVideo/UVD with OpenCL.

There seems to be this great misconception that OpenCL is the solution over using UVD/PureVideo.

It has already been touched on before in this thread too. 🙄

I'm still waiting for someone to find the QuicktimeX documentation that allows you to interact with the PureVideo hardware. I've seen it mentioned at least twice already.

As far as i know NO ONE is able to make a proper driver but themselves and they do it only for windows so far.
ATI once said they will opensource for their driver, did they do it?

ATI release absolutely rubbish binary blobs incredibly slowly, and their hardware specs....
NVIDIA release great binary blobs, no specs, but have a rock solid (supported) VDPAU for ages now.
ATI oss drivers are pretty damn good on <R600 hardware, and linux video in general is a pretty exciting place atm

Try running a couple of full bitrate 1080p h264s on a mac pro in osx, then try it on a puny atom based board (with a $20 9400) running any linux distro - then come back and tell us how great osx/opencl runs with modern media.

Flash 10.1 WILL be available for PPC, as well. Adobe confirmed that in the readme file. 🙂

Apple has a *ton* of cash it could throw at this if it wanted to support hardware *it* itself chose to build its computers. NVidia and ATI worked enough with Apple, and evidence for that is clear, no need for conspiracy theories.

Don't get me wrong, OS X is my preferred OS by a mile, and you'd have to tear my Macbook and Mac Pro from my cold dead hands; but Apple could and should be doing much more to support its own premium priced products[1].

Why wouldnt apple support all harware capabilities if they have all the specs... It makes no sense.
Only thing that makes sense is that they dont have all the data from gpu makers... and they dont give the data because they fear that competition finds out something that they dont want...

So Adobe isn't supporting Mac OS/X or OS/X is being silly and won't open up to Adobe. Will someone out there get with it and solve this already? It's hurting us the consumer and no one else in this apparent pissing match.

But what Adobe really ought to do is get the A*SE in gear and build a real 64-bit version of flash.

Well, crap for crap I felt obliged to test it; and I must say that performance does seem to improve. On my iMac described below I've got the following to report:

Before update: average 100% CPU (out of 200% possible), 16fps average;
After update: average 100/110% CPU (out of 200% possible), 40fps average.

I am certainly glad for you over that improvement. Now just to compare apples and oranges... I have the same machine as you (iMac 2.8 C2D 4Gb 500G):

Under Win 7 with update applied:
51% CPU (100% possible) (shown in task manager)
58.73 fps (shown in results page)

the difference in performance on both platforms is interesting. If I may ask what browser and version did you use for your report? (I used firefox 3.5.5 for this test) TYIA

Yes, the irony of it all - since when does a mere shift of register constitute the end of a continuing sentence within a double-spaced environment? No period was used, and therefore, the sentence continued all the way to the period.
