Oh, just when you thought it couldn't get better, NO, IT DOES! :)

Now Adobe Media Player doesn't work on my Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger partition either! Apparently the uninstaller deletes ALL versions of Adobe AIR found on ALL hard drives and ALL systems, but yet does NOT delete Adobe Media Player! You just can't make this crap up, what a joke.

So BE WARNED... If you run both Tiger and Leopard on separate partitions, you'll have nothing but trouble installing Adobe Media Player if you can get it to work at all.

So far, I've been unable to install this even ONCE in Leopard and have only had my Tiger installation working for an hour before it died.

Back to the drawing board on this crappy installation process Adobe.
It's sooooooooooo Windows like it's scary.

Ok, I got it to work in Leopard, but it's soooooooooooo slow.
Now attempting to see if I can get it back working in Tiger.

The only way to get this software working on multiple partitions appears to be to download Adobe AIR separately and install on each partition/OS, then just COPY the Adobe Media Player application from one drive to the next. I've figured out no other way to do this via Adobe's installer which has no options and makes all kinds of bad decisions without the opportunity to override them.

Even a 1.0 release should at the VERY LEAST, be easy to install without hassles.

Sad, really Adobe, sad. And what a complete waste of my time today. :-(

tried this yesterday. sleek interface but somewhat disappointed with the content selection - which is what its comes down to at this point. the other platforms i use - itunes, joost, jaman, hulu, miro and netflix - are all equally as pretty. what they all lack is content.

one REALLY REALLY REALLY good reason to install it.

CBS has posted the ENTIRE catalogue of Star Trek (TOS)!!!!! WOOOT. I'm stoked Apple has the competition, and I'm REALLY glad this sort of content can now be part of an app, instead of a web-based thing, like most of the networks have been doing. I'm disappointed there's not more content, but what can ya do? It's a 1.0 product.

Hopefully the installation and uninstallation issues will be resolved, and PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, Netflix, USE IT!!!!!!

Watching the original Star Trek series is the ONLY reason I am using AMP...too bad the 90% CPU load is there all the time...bad coding, Adobe...bad coding.

Version 1.0

Everyone knows this is the first version right? I'm somewhat forgiving of the lack of content and some high end features, b/c I know that this is a first step for Adobe. But I do like the direction they are headed in so far, I'm sure eventually they will clean up the UI and improve the memory & processor usage as other versions are implemented.

You hit the mark BRLawyer. It is bad coding.

Why the hell does this thing idle at 25% - 30%, when in the "background." It shouldn't even do so in the foreground. The animation of the top banner should only hit for about 10% - 15% on average, but then the player should idle back down to less than 5% right awway. There's absolutely no reason for this and I know that from experience. It's generally a sign that the developers didn't keep their code in check and have way too many listeners running. I just don't get it, especially when it's coming from Adobe, but I do have a thought about why this thing is so much bloat.

They probably used components for the video and I'm also wondering if they used their new Photoshop drag and drop method to actually create the interface, instead of doing so manually, as in mostly code, if not all code-- there's nothing there I couldn't do in code. They've been raving about a this new WYSIWYG type method, but I would have to think that just like a drag and drop HTHML editor, especially the ones of a few years back, it would add excessive and unecesary code. Components are like this.

This doesn't help my case, when I state to others that Flash 9 is quite efficient. Fortunately my clients know, but for users online, it only gives Flash a bad name. The only time this player should peak the CPU, is on the initial load. I've seen it jump to more than %100 when doing a page change. That's really sad. That to me also says that the developers didn't understand how managing transitions/cpu-loads, instead of stepping things out, so that it wold use less CPU and be friendly to older systems.

If you go full screen, this uses Flash 9's ability to use a system's hardware for acceleration. I couldn't monitor my CPU usage, but full screen should use less CPU than when in a window. I know from personal work that the full screen rect class does a great job and I think it would be hard for even these bad-coders to mess it up, but then again, it's still using way too much CPU unnecessarily.

Blah. I'm going to write Adobe and tell them to stop giving Flash a bad name. :(

I personally quite like the media player... Not gonna use it THAT much, but they have some good shows, and some neat UI features. Something to get inspired from.

It appears the CBS content does NOT work from outside the US. I get "this content is currently unavailable". Another thing, the videos are very choppy even on high speed internet.
