I don't see version 22.3. The current release version is 22.2 according to their horrible Creative Cloud app. The only version I can find that supports M1 is the beta that I've been running for months. Is this story accurate or am I doing something wrong?

The headline and story say "rolling out"

It probably hasn't propagated across all their CDNs yet. Or MacRumors should have waited until the afternoon to post.

It's just now 9am on the east coast... and 6am in Adobe's home state of California. :p

An early review:

"I won’t beat around the bush: the benchmarks are really impressive, matching or outperforming Intel-based computers that cost two to three times as much."

"This isn’t about Apple Silicon vs Intel vs AMD and whether you’re a Mac or a PC. What’s happening here is a re-igniting of competition. And when companies compete, the customers win."

Thanks for that early review. Still not showing up in CC. Maybe later.

I’m keeping my 2015 MacBook Pro 2015 with Mojave and Photoshop CS6. Does all I need. When support for Mojave I’ll figure out how to cross that bridge.

Regarding InDesign, have you looked at Affinity Publisher as a possible alternative? I'm not opposed to Adobe, but Affinity products are well regarded as budget alternatives, if there are grievances about ID maybe Publisher can be used in addition or as a replacement.
@MacGizmo My bf has done a lot in Publisher. He really likes that all three Affinity apps use the same file format, so that they work from each can live in a single file, and one can use the specialized tool for big edits, but the lighter version in Publisher for quick tweaks. To be clear, he was not an InDesign user, so I do not know how good a drop in replacement it is, just that he loves it. :)

He was a heavy PhotoShop user, and like Affinity Photo quite a bit.

He must be working alone.

Affinity can’t read complex Photoshop (PSD and TIF) layers correctly and can’t export complex layers to be read in Photoshop correctly.

If I only used Affinity my career will be finished overnight because all my clients will be angry 😡 about this. They need all the masks and clipped adjustment layers to be uniform.

I would also lose integration with After Effects. I ded 😴 .

Testing it right now.
A bit annoying that you cannot import video files to make gifs (yet), but other than that, almost all functionality is included.

I'm so eager to test the After Effects Apple Silicon Beta, which will come somewhen this year.

AE beta still Intel. Premiere beta looks very polished maybe they will release it this week or soon. Then the new iMac will have the top two Adobe apps already.

It is embarassing for x86
Nah, just wait for Intel's next press release.

They will point out all the things you can't do on a AS Mac with the native Photoshop app, or point out all the graphics-related things you can do on an Intel computer but not on an Apple Silicon computer.

So yeah, probably still embarrassing, but a different type of embarrassing.

You and your friends have been sucked into a financial whirlpool. It's kind of sad that a bloated rich software developer has such a sway over the graphics industry.

I'm not sure everyone quite understands just how much faster "1.5X faster" is.

That being said, I've lost faith in Adobe's ability to release coherent, stable, and useful software years ago — primarily due to the shocking mess that is InDesign. I love ID, and I use it all day, every day. But the amount of bugs and oversights it adds with every update is only rivaled by the lack of useful new features. It is by-far the most crash-prone app I've had in over a decade. In fact, if you asked me what the second-most crash-prone app I have is, I couldn't tell you... other than it's probably another Adobe app like Illustrator or Acrobat.

What's most amazing is that Photoshop, for the most part, is the oldest app Adobe offers and has (probably) the most legacy code and support of any of their apps, yet it is the only one that is fast, stable and rarely crashes/freezes for me despite the fact that the file sizes I deal with in PS are massive compared to any other app I've ever used.

If you are using it all day everyday I guess you are using it for so many different things, but I use it for some simple stuff at work (cards and book cover designs) and I've also been laying out a book of my own for about a year now. I don't think it's ever crashed once on me. Using Windows at work and a 2017 MBP at home.

I’ve read all the comments and it seems it’s only me having a lot of problems with this release? It keeps freezing, crashing and being not responsive. Sure, I’m a heavy user who uses photoshop all day with files from 50 to 1400 MB in size, intelligent objects etc. but that’s normal for graphic designer. I’m using Mac mini 16 GB ram with 140 GB of free space on main SSD and this version is not stable at all. Last intel version was freaking rock solid, but M1 Beta was a mess and this is not much better. Anyone else tested it longer then 5 minutes?
Sure, speed is insane but you just can’t trust it for daily work.

My customers receive the final or production ready product not my source files. They didn't notice my transition years ago. I did. Very smooth workflow. Very fast.

This is a great update, alas for me the DXO Nik Collection is once again broken with this PS update. In fact the filters don't load at all, the selective tool or via the Filters menu.

Could any else confirm this is correct in case its an issue with my system?

Regards

I do agree with this statement... but I will also point out that it was Intel's original "speed at all costs" approach that led to all the processor side-channel attacks we've had to deal with over the last few years. I don't trust them to not make stupid decisions again.

Fortunately, that won't affect people on the Apple side anymore - at least not directly.

Serif updated Affinity Photo for M1 the week after Apples M1 presentation.

And Affinity Designer for M1.

And Affinity Publisher for M1.

For a certain kind of designers these apps are awesome.

He must be working alone.
He works with lots of people in film and video production. His Affinity Photo use tends to be him and a small group of collaborators. Pretty sure they all have all three Affinity apps.
Affinity can’t read complex Photoshop (PSD and TIF) layers correctly and can’t export complex layers to be read in Photoshop correctly.
I can ask him if he has ever had that issue. He has never mentioned it.

The others I know that use it professionally (all artists and graphic designers) are freelancers and their primary delivery product is PDF. I do not know if any of them deliver PSDs that will then be tweaked by others.
I would also lose integration with After Effects. I ded 😴 .
He uses it with After Effects and Blackmagic Design Fusion all the time.

not just you!. it would be nice if adobe properly tested it as when running natively it will only allow me to export to certain folders but it works fine when run under Rosetta lol

I bought PS elements once , light user, and found it quickly became deprecated with updated MacOS. Went over to Pixelmator and Boxy SvG and haven’t looked back to be honest.

If that was the case you’d think they’d focus on that comparison. Makes me wonder if Adobe have done a lazy job with the port.
I don't think lazy is the right word. It's a LOT to port and they have to try and keep parity not just with what's out there now but be smart about the technologies that support where they are going next. So it's a huge job. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for one more year. After that, well, they better have it running as well as what they have on Intel now and with all those features.

The AE beta is currently Intel, but Adobe Stated AE for Apple Silicon would have started being delevoped this year.

Of course I do not expect any m1 native beta before 18.1 is released, but I can see an apple silicon beta released for testing during the summer, after Adobe Max.

Great, now do Lightroom Classic! (you know, the version Lightroom most people professionals actually use...or at least people that want to be professionals, lol)
