So you're saying it's a religious crusade. Right-thinking people should not associate with anyone who uses Flash, no matter how inconvenient and time consuming avoiding them may be.

Just common sense. If you're bank required you to make cash withdrawals in the sketchiest part of the nearest large city and personally accept the risk of getting mugged every time, you'd probably find a new bank.

Chrome dropped support of Snow Leopard earlier this year.

Crap - all the way up to OS X 10.9!? Getting my Mac Mini to just run Lion seems like it's going to be a stretch... I doubt I'll be able to make it run Mavericks...

Edit: The support page for Mavericks only says it needs 2 GB of RAM... it may be possible to force it to install and run... but I think the CPU on the 2007 Mac Mini is pretty abysmal... something like an Intel Core Solo...
You will want to rename your mini to "infinite beach ball" if you install anything newer than Snow Leopard on it. Mavericks and newer OSX run like garbage on any system that lacks SSD. Unless you upgraded that mini to SSD, you should just take the loss.

One of the best things Steve did was to write this letter regarding Flash - http://www.apple.com/hotnews/thoughts-on-flash/ and to not adopt it on the iOS platform.
Agreed. But why on earth are there still so many 'holdouts' using that troublesome platform? Are they just too lazy to convert to JavaScript or HTML5?, both of which btw are supported by most browsers, and can be used for 99% of web content.

You know, Google Finance, Facebook videos, and just about every video news site (unfortunately) still use it.
Pretty sure Facebook doesn't require Flash, as I've been watching videos in Facebook on a computer without Flash for about two years now.

Why are people still using this? Uninstall it. You don't need it anymore.

Every time a security update comes out for flash there's always someone that thinks they know what everyone else needs. The world doesn't revolve around YOUR computing habits. In the corporate world there's this company called VMware. They make this product called ESX that pretty much is the number one virtualization platform ... IN THE WORLD. You need flash to use it. They're moving away from flash (or so they've been saying for a few years now), but until they do I'm stuck with it. Oh wait, even when they finally move off of it, there's another half dozen applications that I use that are all flash. It sucks, no one says it's good, but people use it for their JOBS!

Really, flash is a vector for a total system compromise. Why would your bank want you to use a piece of technology that would allow someone to completely take over your computer?

Thank goodness for my iPad, where video sites that supposedly "need" Flash have Flash-free apps that do the same thing!

I'm a Flash developer, and I can't even begin to defend it on the web. (Standalone exhibits? It has some uses still.)

But we can make their VDI desktop flash free :cool::cool::cool::cool:

Right, reality is as just as simplistic as rhetoric...
How about your work? Or your work's benefits site? Do you just say "nah, I'm not going to log into that"?

I always hated flash. I was very happy to kill it on my mac back a few years ago. To the developers that still write websites that use flash, STOP. If i cannot access a site with HTML5 then I move on. PERIOD.

It reminds me of legit websites that aren't using TLS 1.2 or stronger on user account pages and "paysite" pages. It's willful and there should be a takedown deadline.

Some of those Benefits Sites have little or no encryption, even after all the HIPAA stuff. Most of them are using TLS 1.0 or worse. -TLS 1.0 is broken. It was broken when HIPAA was written. Drives me nuts...

And although, for instance https://www.usa.gov/donate-blood-organ#item-35267 is using TLS1.2, they're still using Flash!

How incredibly **** can you be? I'd rather not use it, but certain applications that I need do use it. Is that OK with you? Or do you want to run my life and tell me which apps or services I should be using just to avoid using something you don't like. I can't believe how childish and ridiculous and shortsighted so many here are.

I'll tell you what, you tell me which apps to use and I'll tell you what you can and can't eat.

I know everyone else says that Flash isn't necessary... and normally I'd agree with you all... but I have a Mac Mini running Snow Leopard hooked up to my TV. Up until a few weeks ago, I used it to stream HBO.

Then HBO decided that I needed a newer version of Flash to be allowed to use their website, and I discovered Flash wasn't supporting Snow Leopard with current versions anymore.

Does anyone know what the best way out of this situation is? Is there a way to force newer versions of Flash to run on Snow Leopard? Can I force HBO to load on a newer version of Flash? Or should I just upgrade the Mac Mini to Lion? I have the installer already on the computer and I have 2 GB of RAM so can install it... but I just recall Lion as being way worse than Snow Leopard when it comes to performance, so I wasn't actually planning on installing it ever...

Your post + your signature go together beautifully.
How about using chrome?

Can someone PLEASE [burn] this thing to the ground . How MANY red flags does these simpletons at Adobe needs before they get it that Flash is worthless........ It STILLS amaze me to see some websites using this outdated weak useless Flash Player.

I'm over the Flash 'insecurity' and not installing it on any new computers.

And as older computers are phased out I'll wipe them clean and repurpose them (minus Flash) for email and basic web use. If a site doesn't work without Flash it's their loss, as I won't allow it to be my loss.

FLASH!!! WHY WON'T YOU DIE!!!

The ONLY good use of Flash, ever, was HomeStarRunner.

It is amazing to me that VMware has not updated their products. We are talking about admins that have high level access to servers using a seriously flawed product. Scary.

As I said in a previous post, if the company want to do that and provides the laptop/desktop with which to do it, then so be it. But I just won't do it on my personal laptop/desktop. In my company, all our internally created apps are not allowed to use flash. And we are not allowed to use/purchase software that uses flash. (very heavy into security, we cannot even use flash drives, print remotely, use the CD drive - all disabled) I am on the software side, so not sure how the server guys/gals work around Flash for VMware, but again, scary.

I get that, but the key is that everyone's situation is different. Flash sucks, no doubt. I can easily take it off my Mac and just use a VDI for my admin work. However, I choose to have access local on my machine vs using a remote solution which introduces lag (on top of the horrible lag I get in flash itself).
