Some examples from the thread:

-Streaming sites should abandon Flash. Many others did already.

-As for virtualization software, I am for the first time aware that you need Flash to run Windows virtually(this what I understood). Vmware should abandon this imho.

Yes, the Facebook app, not the desktop site. But actually, Facebook just recently changed their site so it doesn't use Flash. My information was slightly outdated.

So you never watch news online? Ok then. Lots of people do, so everyone here should stop saying that nobody needs Flash. I hate Flash too, but if I want to watch something on BBC's website like millions of other regular people, I need it.

Some sites will use Flash if it detects a Mac user agent but not if it's iOS. You can sometimes* trick it by changing your user agent (which is a bit of an annoyance), but it also sometimes messes with the site layout if you do that. I don't know why they don't just serve the non-Flash player every time; it's retarded. Either way, Mac users can't really get away with not having Flash on news video sites.

* This trick seems to work on BBC but not on CNN.

You keep bringing up reality, so the ball is in your court. Name a single bank that requires flash. It is no longer 2006.
TD Ameritrade uses it for some advanced features on their site, but you don't need it to use most of the site. By the way, some really prominent companies still use Flash, even though I'm sure they are phasing it out. I know some Google services require it in random places. Sites with videos (that aren't YouTube) often require it.

And some stuff is, for archaic legal reasons, not available on mobile devices or licensed under different conditions.

I know everyone else says that Flash isn't necessary... and normally I'd agree with you all... but I have a Mac Mini running Snow Leopard hooked up to my TV. Up until a few weeks ago, I used it to stream HBO.

Then HBO decided that I needed a newer version of Flash to be allowed to use their website, and I discovered Flash wasn't supporting Snow Leopard with current versions anymore.

Does anyone know what the best way out of this situation is? Is there a way to force newer versions of Flash to run on Snow Leopard? Can I force HBO to load on a newer version of Flash? Or should I just upgrade the Mac Mini to Lion? I have the installer already on the computer and I have 2 GB of RAM so can install it... but I just recall Lion as being way worse than Snow Leopard when it comes to performance, so I wasn't actually planning on installing it ever...

Snow Leopard hasn't received security updates in years. IMHO, it's too dangerous to run Internet-connected devices without security updates. Were I in your shoes, I would look into upgrading to a supported OS (El Capitan?) and upgrading the RAM and perhaps even adding an SSD.
