I love (read: am pissed off at) the fact that none of their versions of Photoshop Elements will ever work on Leopard.

They still haven't even released Elements 5, while Windows has gone through 5 and 6.

Can anyone speak to After Effects in particular? I really want to upgrade to Leopard, but I don't want to have a non-functional After Effects until December.

You CAN print PDFs 🙂

Hey guys, if anyone's interested regarding PDFs. It seems to be just the PDF printer that's bust under Leopard. However, you can still print a quartz PDF if you need a quick, low-res version, and you can still export as a postscript and run that through distiller if you want a print-quality PDF. So, it works, but you have to do a couple of extra steps (like you used to have to do before Tiger...).

Hopefully whatever driver update comes to fix this issue for Acrobat 8 will also work for Acrobat 7.

The Adobe suite was originally built for OS9 and has been running in shells for ages. CS3 was the first time it was built for OSX - rewriting code from the ground up. But right as Adobe was getting CS3 ready and written, Apple announced the switch to Intel. Now Adobe has to rewrite again in order for their programs to run native in Intel which is not as simple a process as many other applications have had that were written in Cocoa.

And Apple releases another OS that requires updates. Adobe's having a tough time as it is keeping up. I'm just glad they're pulling their resources to keep it written for both Windows AND Mac. It's worth a bit of a wait, I'd think.

Yah and people bitch about why Microsoft is so slow to release an update. This is why they don't release a REAL update more then once every 5 years or more. If you think the jump between 2K and XP was anything monumental dream on. *shrugs* I don't blame Adobe on this. Development for a new OS is expensive. Jumping thought hoops for Apple when developer build to developer build can break your app is nothing short of insane. Is it really any wonder why Apple doesn't and probably never will own the enterprise environment. If companies had to change their inhouse apps every 18 months they would have their developers commit seppuku. 😛

Dec-Jan??

C'mon Adobe, letting us down again. Not that I care too much since I only use the graphic progs, but for the Video peeps that sucks. This is typical, they had what over a year with the dev version to fix these problems?

Amazing they don't just make their own OS at this point if they don't want to play nice with the creative community who are for the most part dedicated to Apple computers. When these 2 companies don't play nice, it only hurts us, like helpless children in the middle of a war. Alas.

EDIT: I forgot the PDF thing, that I will say is NOT cool. Better be fixed first, most important f-up on their part. argh.

I still think it's ******** that they can't get an update out just to fix PDF printing quick... That can't be tough, and as a designer it is one of the biggest things most of us use daily!

January 2008? That's ridiculously WEAK on adobe's part.

Glad there's an apparent workaround listed in these comments.

Any thoughts on upgrading? If I get Leopard and render Elements 3 ineffective will I be able to get the upgrade version of Elements 5?

Lightroom is a great program, but just use Aperature for the time being. By the time they upgrade lightroom, you will like Aperature more anyways. It does the exact same thing, has the shine and polish of Apple software, and is seamless with PS.

Now the question for me is....any chance of CS2 working with leopard?

Adobe is messing up Lightroom. It's taking too long to get updates for problems that should have been fixed already. From what I've read Aperture's performance is even worse than Lightroom.

Try Aperture with Leopard. Much improved performance. I'm really pleased with the speed increase. But speed is a drug. You always want more.😀

How is this incompatibility a reflection on Adobe? Isn't the situation more likely a reflection on whether Apple provided Adobe with the necessary information to upgrade its software?
I'm pretty sure that Adobe has the cash on hand to pony up for at least a single "Select" Apple Developer Connection -- it costs less than a full version of Photoshop CS3.

Considering that Leopard has been in the hands of developers, in one form or another, for more than a year, the blame lies squarely on Adobe's shoulders.

Adobe has to get on the ball with things. Though it could have been worse, given how long it took them to be universal with the big apps.

I'd still like to see some more Apple alternatives to Adobes software. Competition is always a good thing.

Agreed. It's not like they'd have to change much to do a driver update for the PDF printer and it's a pretty important workflow item.

Admittedly January isn't far away and, yes, if you're a professional design house or similar then chances are you won't be installing Leopard on a main drive until the creases are ironed out in your apps. But users don't always fit into such clear, minimal categories.

I think what's pissing people off is Adobe's blase attitude and glacial speed of development. Acrobat 8 is a relatively small piece of software that costs a relatively large $700+. They should be ready to go a lot faster than they are.

My copy of Leopard will be arriving soon. At least I no longer have to be slaved to Adobe Acrobat with all the new features in Preview. Preview offers virtually instant launching of PDF's and it now does interactive filling out of applications which was something I had to be slaved to Acrobat to do. No being slaved to Acrobat with Leopard. Yahoo!!! Adobe's apps are just too BLOATED with useless plugins, I fall asleep while it's apps are launching.

If Adobe keeps sending the message that they don't care about the Mac community, they may start seeing the Mac community stop caring about Adobe. Running photoshop elements in rosetta is like being trapped on the "small world afterall" ride at disneyland for eternity (i.e. my own private version of hell).

Acrobat is a bloated joke. Seriously, can Adobe make an app that doesn't take 45 - 180 seconds to load.

Yes, Adobe is the new Microsoft. All started with product activation, and their painfully buggy releases. Such a shame, such a shame.

Photoshop not working with PPC?

Has anyone else had the problem with Photoshop CS3 crashing on launch with Leopard? It's fine on my friends alu iMac, but not on my G5.

The rest of the Adobe suite works fine.

Now the question for me is....any chance of CS2 working with leopard?

I used Photoshop CS2 yesterday on my Quad G5 with Leopard and it worked fine. I even scanned a few papers with a relatively old canon scanner plug-in and no glitches so far.

I did not try the other programs of the CS2 so far... Will do that sometime today when I find the time...

I see the finger is being firmly pointed at Adobe. However...

When Apple were touting for pre-orders of Leopard, were they aware that much of the most popular imaging software was not going to work with it? Kept that quiet didn't they. Were Adobe asked to publish this list after the release of Leopard?

Secondly, Apple should have been working closely with one of their key software suppliers. Won't do them much good if no-one in the design community buys a new Mac for four months.

Thirdly, a few people here have mentioned choosing not to upgrade. Apple (unlike Microsoft) will not sell you a Mac with 10.4 or a new copy of 10.4, so there is no legal way to acquire a new machine running an OS compatible with all current software. Does this make business sense?

So all the products that I don't use because Apple has a better alternative don't work with Leopard.

With that time to update, Adobe can release CS4 Production Suite and make everyone pay for Leopard compatibility!

C'mon Adobe lift ya game! your a first tier developer and no doubt have more than enough resources for a quicker update turnaround time for cryin' out loud!

Photoshop CS3 have a lot of cursor bugs when used intensively with Spaces. I have to quit and restart about every 10 minutes of work (precise cursors disapears and selection won't work in some cases).

I have reinstalled everything after leopard clean Install ad updated all the Adobe software to their latest versions.

Adobe probably didn't want to admit they were behind in geetting things ready.

I bet Apple did work with them. At least as much help as Adobe asked for.

Right now you can still get machines with 10.4 on them, but those will disappear over time.

I actually blame Adove being so late on Adobe. It's their own fault. I can see some issues showing up in late testing. However, this smacks more of they didn't care enough to start early enough with some of the applications.
