So Adobe fixed their Dolby infringement in their newer versions, and they're telling users to upgrade or else Dolby might sue them?

Exactly, and I feel like things are worse with movies. You "buy" movies, but the license can be revoked at any time. Search online and you can find instances of this happening. I feel like an old man, but I have also started buying movies on Blu-ray. Before I'll buy on iTunes, I'll look for a Blu-ray with a code for a digital download. That way, if the license is revoked from iTunes, I still have the Blu-ray.

I love movies, but even back in the vhs, dvd & laser disc days, i never really bought them. Sure i bought some, but i didn’t collect them. No walls of dvds in my home. I just thought for the most part it was a waste even back then. I could always rent. Same now. There are so many streaming & renting services online now that there is even less reason for me to buy or collect them. Not only do i save a ton of money & hard drive space, it makes much more sense. At least for me.

Matt Roszak doesn't understand what he's paying for. You're paying for access to Creative Cloud apps, not access to a specific version of an app in perpetuity.

Well, the point of getting CC instead of CS6 was that you would always be up to date.

Adobe sent out an email to its Creative Cloud customers and here is what it said:
"$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$ $$$$$$$$ $$$$!$$$$!!$ $$$!!! $$$$$$$! $$$ $$$!!!! $$)!)!!!!$$$$$$."
You know, that’s not at all what that email appears to say. If you paid attention, you’d notice that it’s being sent to people currently subscribing to creative cloud. They’re already paying. They’re using older versions of the apps. Upgrading is free. So actually, the one thing it seems NOT to say is “$$$$!.”

I can't entirely agree with this. They've certainly messed up a few things (like CPU multithreading in After Effects to instead introduce GPU rendering, which would have been fine but it's been implemented only on a FRACTION of their Effects) but their prices are reasonable for access to their entire suite of software. This is unlike a truly horrible company like Autodesk where you might pay $180+/month for one main application and a couple of supporting apps (you can easily do without).

Yep, dropped Autodesk like a hot potato last year precisely because of their nasty business practices. Didn't like being price-forced into a new license model that not only would be 2-3 times more expensive, but would also mean having to trade in my perpetual license for the privilege. (While Houdini and/or Blender were showing much more progress and potential than Maya was showing.)

This is outrageous. Litigation there may be or not, this is a part of dirty play at hand. Just think of it, penetrating the user's computer, seizing control of his apps - this smells bunch of legal counter-actions. Big Brother watching you.
Though I think it's a very disingenuous trick to force users to upgrade.
It would be more nefarious if the upgrade cost money. But if you’re already paying for CC, why wouldn’t you upgrade? One guy above did say that later updates caused problems. But I wonder... how many people are holding out because they have genuine issues with later apps, and how many are just being the XP-guy. I like my crusty century-old app and I don’t see any reason to update? It’s possible that old CC apps cause problems for Adobe, either from a tech-licensing standpoint, or because the fact of old versions still running are getting in the way of Adobe making CC database updates, who knows. But as much as this seems like Adobe being jerks, it just seems like jerks on both side of the matter, you know?

Don't ever use a subscription service for applications.

Bad joojoo.

And I might add..This is how far down the tubes Adobe has gone.
They used to be a good company.

Some are unavoidable, like AutoCAD. Subscription or nothing.
