Warm sound is basically less emphasis on the highs and a more full sound with a rich mid and upper-mid range while still having good bass.
I think this is what the Sol Republic Tracks Air sound like.

Bright headphones would have a very thin sound with little bass.
Wouldn't that be called flat?

What is tinny in terms of the frequencies that are emphasized? Over emphasis on the high notes?

I wouldn't call Bose tinny but they are flat sounding. I like their in ears more because of the design of the cushions then the sound

Tinny could be described as lacking a full sound, with it being thin and metallic. Some people describe tinny sound as harsh.

Flat is different than warm. Flat sound is an attempt to not accentuate any part of the sound frequency. It would give you the audio as unfiltered as possible. Some people like this, and others want something with more bass, more midrange. Some people describe certain headphones as fun, usually meaning it gives life to what you're listening to and doesn't sound flat.

My favorite headphone is the Audio Techinca M50. I've owned A LOT of headphones ranging from double to triple the price of these and I always end up going back to them. They are forgiving to bad recordings and yet make the good recordings sound amazing. They also have a nice V shape. Peaky highs and deep bass. The mids are flat in my opinion. Recessed at first, but once properly burned in they come out.

Another good studio headphones is the Shure SRH840. They are quite the opposite sound wise to the M50. They are flat and warm. They pretty much just let the music do it's thing without adding anything to the table. That is not a dis, I personally like that.

Lastly, somebody mentioned the Sennheiser Momentums over ear. Out of the 3, they sound the most appealing. The sound signature is elegant with rolled off highs, forward mids and decent bass. They will make most pop music sound wonderful. The only reason I didn't keep them is because of their fit. My huge noggin could never get a proper seal, making them borderline useless.

I recently ordered the M Audio HDH50 based solely on the minum reviews available and their manufacture description. They should be the perfect blend between the M50 and the SRH840, I'm excited to get them in on Monday.

Hope I could help.

I have koss pro4aat headphones. But they sound better with something that has more power for audio. Other than that for mobile I use some Sony earbuds or EarPods

I thought I should mention that if you have a quality music store local to you (Sam Ash, Guitar Center etc) you could demo a few different options there. Maybe you will find a brand or model that you like and can price shop online.

The momentum over ear are Meh Imo. The v moda m-100 are the same price better built, rolled off highs like the momentum but better bass.

I don't think the momentum are poorly built. Also there is something to be said for style. The VModas are downright ugly to me. That's a matter of preference though if one cares.

The momentum are outright ugly to boot as well Imo. They aren't poorly built but the v moda m-100 are built like a tank. I love the look of the m-100

V-Moda M80 or M100hands down. Awesome headphones! I have both and love them. There is no comparison between them and Beats.

While I love the m-100 as far as the Xs goes which is an improvement over the m-80 I like the beats solo 2 more which was a gift. The beats solo 2 are for bass heads but the treble (the highs) are rolled off on the solo 2 vs screeching on the solo HD and other various beats headphones. The lows (bass) is thumping but doesn't bleed much into the mids like the solo HD and very good bass vs quantity bass the solo HD was going for. Build quality looks improved but the xs is build way better.

When it gets down to it try these headphones out before you buy in stores and preferably with your own music. V-moda offers a 60 day return policy if you buy directly from their website and beats are under apple return policy and as far I know with ipads is fantastic

So... you just said that the solo 2 is much better than your v-modas then you go on to say that the v-moda is actually better. Mistakes aside, beats are rubbish headphones, you can defend them with your life, but they're still rubbish. If you only want to hear bass, then they're for you.

As this user said, Sennheiser's range of headphones are absolutely fantastic for more-neutral listening towards a large variety of genres.

That's the only downside. If you have a large head or ears, you may have trouble getting them to fit. The best way to tell is to go in-store and try them out.

Of course it's down to personal preference however the momentums get better reviews across the board. It could be down to the quality of music you are using on them. If you're listening to .mp3's, the momentums won't do any justice. If , however, you are listening to some lossless format, they will sound miles better.

I, myself have tried out many of the headphones listed and I personally preferred the momentums as they provide the most neutral and accurate sound to every track I play through them.
Lol first off my opinion is m-100 > beats solo 2 >xs

You can being a hater seriously. Known people in the audiophile world have spoken great things about the beats solo 2.

Tyll from inner fidelity spoke great things about beats solo 2 and he even said he takes back what he said all beats are garbage.

Seriously you people are such closed minded that assume it has a certain name it must Suck. How about trying out said product before you speak crap about it. People need to get out of the rock they are living under and do some research

You say you tried alot of headphones but that is a lie If you are just writing off the beats solo 2 based on name alone which you are clearly doing

And besides the beats solo 2 which I got as a gift these are just the headphones or earphones that I have purchased in the 13 months. M-100 are my favorite overall but beats solo 2 are my favorite on ear and the bose soundtrue ear phones are the only earbuds that don't irritate my ears after long use which is why I love them but sound is OK but not worth the price tag if that is the reason your buying them.

Once again you actually need to use the beats solo 2 in person using your own music before writing it off solely based on the perception beats Suck mantra while is earned because they are expensive and sound like crap in the past the mixr wasn't great but a step up from before from what I've read about them and the same with the studio v2 that came out last year. The solo 2 is quite amazing headphone for bass heads. As I said before the bass does NOT bleed into the mids a lot (slightly but not enough that it's a problem) and the treble rolls off vs screeching like on the solo HD.

----------

I have also tried the momentum and returned them because it was Meh on bass. V-moda m-100 are all what makes the momentum great but has more bass and I wouldn't call it better reviewed because they are both generally reviewed positively overall

----------

Oh and how is the v moda xs and m 100 better specially the xs if you obviously never tried out the beats solo 2? Please tell me how you came to this conclusion because I own all 3 in question unlike you

I have been using the AKG K 845BT and I am happy with them.

But using them with the cable. With Bluetooth I have done only some basic testing, although it can be louder with a phone this way (but it is not lossless). The connection seems to just work.

Bluetooth is not only for iOS an Android, it also works with OSX, BB10 and Sailfish, even if running Android apps.

I have it paired with a Mac and 2 phones and there's no problem switching.

It does not have noise cancelling, but I find them isolating enough, while allowing you to be aware of your environment.

They are comfortable.

The sound seems quite precise, not bombastic.

It is fine for a bag, the cups twist, so it can be packed quite well.

See now you are referencing a specific need, more bass. You have a very specific preference. Not everyone shares that preference.

Advice for headphones

The momentum has no bass boost almost ...

Also sounds funny defending beats but the beats solo 2 are amazing headphones

I haven't been into hifi as long as Tyll, and no disrespect to him, but the solo 2 sound terrible. Bass bleeds into the lower mids, in contrast to that, the upper mids become peaky and harsh to make up for the muddy lower mids. They may sound better than the HD (I've owned both) but they are nowhere near worth their price range. On top of that, they feel like a fisher price toy with its shiny plastic frame.

Sound is subjective and everybody has their preference but calling the momentums meh compared to the solo 2? Listen to your ears and not the reviewers.

Lol I listen to my ears and the solo 2 are better but also a different type of beast ..... Ones over ear and ones on ear .

The solo 2 don't sound terrible and the bass bleed is almost non existent. Tyll is spot on with his review and others as well . Hifiguy gave a glowing review of it (YouTube) and so did lachlanlikesathing on YouTube as well . I don't like the momentum build , ear cups which are 2 small and which probably effects my opinion on the bass. They are fine but I don't like them . Beats solo 2 are worth the price tag I paid for them which was $0 but I would pay $200 for them .

The fact that you take hifiguy seriously discredits you all together. All he does is unbox 'phones sent to him by the manufacturer. You think he is going to bad mouth a set and risk the chance of getting more stuff to unbox? You are sheep, my friend.
