I don't think you can accurately judge the battery performance on the first few days since you're busy installing stuff and putting files onto it and the OS keeps indexing stuff.

It's been a week. No excuses for the performance to be bad after a few days . Simple fact is , the new MacBook Pro had a worse battery life, it's been well documented by users and reviewers .

Methinks there's going to be a slew of 2016 MacBook Pro's hitting the refurb store before too long!

Nope. They will be stock piled for the refurb store in the future . Though there will be many returns apple will not offer them as refurbs as they push for new sales and max profit

Yeah, I agree, while we saw Apple proudly proclaim how great the initial sales were, I think there will be a higher percentage of buyers remorse on this generation then prior generations.

I don't think they release refurbs early just because there are lots of returns. They do that, they dilute their profits early. Rather, they are like to time it based on a fixed cycle.

That would make the rMP pretty good IMO. The new MacBook Pro keyboard is not bad, while the rMP keyboard to me is unusable.

That's how I feel. I kept switching between the two when the first MBPs showed up at a store and was amazed at the difference. I've had to alter my typing to be lighter on my fingers but it's not bad.

Have you tried some of the remedies like the clean reinstall of Sierra? That has seemed to help many.
It really seems like this shouldn't even need to be said or done with an apple product of all things. Reminds me of the days of windows machines and "did you defrag your drive? What about maintenance? What about changing your settings?"

No. there should be good battery life out of the box. ESPECIALLY after it's done indexing. Even then it should be good enough to get you through a full day and if not...wtf apple? I had an hp laptop recently for work that had 13 hour battery life. The new surface book has 16. Yet some of us on here are getting 5-6 on an expensive apple made machine? Ugh. I no likey. And my time for making excuses for apple has come and gone. The higher the price, the more criticism is deserved

That's fair, and I don't dispute the contention that it should be good out of the box. But, also remember that Apple has made it really easy to do a data migration. There are apparently a lot of settings, processes, artifacts that get transferred over from an old machine and/or old OS that don't play nice with the new hardware/OS combo. Of course it's up to the consumer if they want to put in the effort required to get the machine running optimal and to manufacturer specs. They shouldn't have to, but it's there if you want it.

FWIW, I've been reading that the reinstall is very easy and very fast (40 minutes?). It's not like the old days of reinstalling Windows that took half a day. All settings and keychain info keep too. That's pretty fargin easy. I didn't have this issue since I installed clean. But my machine definitely needed a day or so of indexing and junk to get the battery life up to spec. You're right that you shouldn't "have to". It does cost good money on the account that they are selling a "premium" laptop and should be good out of the box.
