Unfortunately, "looks like" is not enough. It should work exactly like Apple's. It is too early to buy these cables IMO but the OP did not know it had a special chip and warned us! I wish everybody does what he did!

Yep, I cancelled the order & ordered straight from Apple.

buying a knockoff cable to save $7 on an accessory for your $200-$400 new phone? Some of you kids don't deserve nice things...

Maybe because they're so hard to find in stores that some people kind of need it now for their car or whatever reason that may be.

I can't believe people aren't angrier about this. Apple is basically doing a money grab from us early adopters.

I can't believe people waste time getting angry at something they can't change.

Order them from Apple. I got cables within a week. If they 'kind of need it now for their car or whatever reason that may be.' then use the cable you got with the phone. This isn't a complex problem to solve.

What about the USB chargers that go into a cigarette lighter? Someone mentioned those in another thread. Are they safe?

Why wouldn't they be? All you're doing is plugging an Apple I5 charging cable into a USB port.

Why would you call someone a kid? Seems disrespectful to put down people who aren't hurting anyone and simply trying to save money (even if they made a mistake).
Because out here then some people value the feelings and needs of a giant corporation than those of human beings.

This idea that buying 3rd party is ONLY because of penny pinching is ridiculous. Apple offers a single cable size in a single color so if you're looking for a shorter or longer or built in lighter adapter or black or purple cable then you have no choice but to go 3rd party. Obviously now is not the right time to do that but eventually it will be, and if you save 80% off then why would that offend anyone?

Yeah I just ordered some thru the Apple Store App on my phone and the store about 20 min away from me has them in stock and ordered 2 of them last night.

I think it is funny how Apple hasn't updated that app yet...

Shows October 19 for my local stores :(

Some people like to have a few extras... I want three more: One for my office, one for my girlfriends house, and a coiled one (wonder how long this one will take to come out) for my car. I also need two adapters: One for my car, and one for my Zeppelin Air sound dock.

That all adds up really quickly.

i understand everyone is entitled to their opinion but i think it's a bit ignorant to put people down for wanting to buy aftermarket cables.

as someone mentioned before, people may need multiple cables, different lengths, availability, etc.

there's also nothing wrong with saving a bit of cash.

Agree 100%

Thanks for the heads up!

Is this the same with the 30pin to Lightning adapters? If yes I will cancel my order on ebay

Definitely cancel it. I bought one from amazon and I think it even shorted out the 4 charger I had it attached to but I haven't tested it out. It only charges my phone if it's plugged into my car adapter and in a certain position!!

After market iphone 5 charging cables NO GOOD!

I have 3rd party lightning cables that I have been using for 6 months and they have been working for a long time. Am I fine to continue using them?

....just noticed that this is an old thread oops.

Old thread I know, but we are chatting in this thread about good iPhone cables. So far the consensus is, Slim Cable, Mono
Price, and Anker

If any one stumbles on this its some good info!

I agree about the Anker. Charges very fast and good quality. I also like Chromo flat cable for durability because of its design but the length is long and it charges slower.

Believe it or not that is a sign that it is not Apple certified.. Real Apple certified cables, regardless of length must pass 2.4 amps charging capacity. So if its longer and charges slower it must be non really certified.

Chromo says they are certified but maybe they are not.

ask the companies to send you a screen shot of their Apple certification from the Apple supplier portal. That will be the proof.
