Surface Book for 13" for the 15' just waiting to see what develops over the next few months.

Q-6

Awesome. I've heard some AMAZING things about the Surface Book.

On another note to the OP, I LOVE my machine. I obviously don't use it for half the things everyone else does, just normal day-to-day stuff, I do spend a lot of time on the laptop and its been nothing but spectacular for me. I came from the original retina, the 2012 when it first released.
The touch bar for me is more than useless, if I had a choice I'd not have gotten it, other than that just nothing but greatness.

The opinion is decisive, the most decisive I've seen in a apple product for a long time, even the Apple Watch seems to have been more favourable welcome. The people who claim it's the best ever, take with a pinch of salt. I tried it, it was a very good machine, just not worth its price tag so returned the it for a 2015 refurb.

I suggest trying it and coming to your own conclusion.

It's damned awesome. Best MBP Apple have ever released. Incredibly well designed cooling system (Razer could learn a thing or two about that), great battery life, preposterous SSD speeds, and atrociously thin.

USB-C won't be an issue in the future and the supported bandwidth of each port, coupled with the fact it can be transformed into any peripheral you need it to, arguably means it's got the best longevity of any Mac to date.

It's so desirable in every way.

They said that about thunderbolt 1 .... FireWire .....

One needs to take any opinion with a pinch of salt, not only the positives ones.

And no, they didn't say any of that about TB1 and FW. They did say it was the more powerful port and they were. The big difference with TB1/2, FW and USB back then was the fact that they only supported their own protocol (well, TB did both PCIe and DisplayPort) whereas TB3 is now compatible with just about anything. That and only that is what changes things.

Whats on earth are you talking about??

Since when does the cost of something effect weather it's good or not?
Value fir money is entirely different.
It is the best MBP made, no contest.
Apple would release am inferior product would they??

As for the over priced claims, I'm guessing it's different from country to country.
Here in NZ the cost of the 2016 and 2015 models were practically identical. It was a no brainer to go for the latest release.

Definitely not! The only reason I didn't buy it on launch day was because of how expensive it is.

The new base 15" with 512 GB is $100 more than the comparably equipped 2015 was when it came out. Not a huge difference, especially considering it includes hardware not on the 2015, along with numerous improvements of previous hardware.

That can still be too much for someone whether it's a good deal compared to 2015 or not.

2015 has probably become more and less popular. More popular with initial bad buzz and controversy.

Now 2016 more popular since some are showing up refurb and on sale

You can find a better price for older models though if you're not buying from Apple.

I adore my 15" 16gb model, though I can understand the criticisms. But from the rumors I've heard or read Apple was kinda stuck in terms of hardware with this thing. At least the max of 16 gigs was understandable since it uses LPDDR3 ram, which the processor can't handle more than 16gb of. The soldering of the battery and SSD was baffling though, though it probably has more to do with a fear of lawsuits than Apple trying to make a disposable machine out of the MBP.

Anyway, using it all day working in Photoshop and Illustrator while being able to send email and such is great. It just works seamlessly even when I have 8 or 10 files open in Illustrator or Photoshop. The screen is fantastic, the touch gestures work incredibly well, and surprisingly, the giant touchpad has had a lot of benefit with cursor an gesture control, and I haven't had the problems with accidentally moving the cursor either (but that's more due to my typing style).
I actually like the keyboard too, but I can recognize it's not for everybody.

The touchbar is a gimmick though, but I don't really miss the F keys either.

I can understand the need for 32 gigs though, I'm running up to 12 or more just working in Adobe suite.

Yes, Apple computers are too expensive for many, and the 2015 is cheaper now than when it came out. Just putting the cost in context.

But the prices have gotten slightly better on the 2016 too, I managed to get one at $320 off by using B&H $100 off and saving off tax, also they discounted it another $100, two days after.

People on here talking about change? We didn't need change. The previous gen was legit.

Whatever the case, my opinion is that the new MBP rocks. Sure the changes are drastic but heck overall for me it's still the sweetest computer out there. Wish I still had mine.

I bought a 2.7GHz 15" tMPB from Apple, then turned around and bought a 13" nMBP (the base model) on sale from B&H. The 15" has become my desktop machine, working alongside my TBD. The 13" I use for travel.

I've had at least one of every iteration of Apple laptop since the PowerBook 100. The 15" machine is a bit of an odd duck. The display is terrific, and I have no complaints about battery life. I don't spend much time on the keyboard, so I can't effectively judge it. The port situation is less than ideal (for me, anyway) since I have four or five USB 3.0 HDDs on the desk at any given time. I reluctantly use ports on the TBD, which slows the drives to a crawl. That is my only challenge with the machine thus far, and time will remedy that as I have the opportunity to trade up to USB-C SSDs.

The 13" nMBP is another story. It's certainly a significant step up from the 11" MBA I was using. The keyboard is useable, certainly moreso than a MacBook. The base processor is slow but adequate, and I get along with 8GB RAM without much problem. It's just a 'blah' sort of machine ... very utilitarian and purposeful, but without any bells or whistles to recommend it.

When I finish travel for the Summer, I imagine I'll sell the 13" and do without a really portable laptop for awhile. I just thought the pound less and somewhat diminished real estate of the 13" would make it a good take-with machine. It is that, but only that ... it's not the extraordinary evolution I'd hoped for when I decided to trade up from the MBA. All in all, I rather wish I'd kept the Air; if not for the sub-par display, I probably would have.

Where did it go?

Just picked up MacBook Pro non touch bar
Only had it 2 days. Set up and Basic web and YouTube Well pleased with battery.

Same problem when you use a USB-A 3.0 to USB-C adapter or cable?

Well, the 15" MBP has four USB-C ports. One of those is dedicated to power, since the TBD does not power the MBP. That leaves three ports for four or five drives. To answer your specific question, USB 3.0 drives are faster with a USB-C port than with a USB 2 port. As I said, I'll work toward replacing all my spinning hard drives with SSDs that incorporate a USB-C interface.

Opinions?

In my opinion the "dust" is far from being settled.
I returned mine because it was the worst junk I've ever bought, as far as laptops over $800 goes.
Hated the keyboard and yadi yadi yada......don't feel like going through the list.
It would be ok if there was only one or two things but - for me - it's so much more than that.

Given it has pros/cons vrs the 2015 model, it's not the best MBP made. Do some basic research.

Wow....new Mac mini ?? iPod shuffle 3rd gen... here is a few to start...tell me how these were better than the previous generation . New iPad ??

How good something is .....is a major variable in the criteria when it comes to value for money ....

I don't think there is a "consensus."

Some like it, some don't, some are in the middle. And there are a few who can't stop denigrating those people who are unhappy with it.

I've bought two different 15" models and returned both. I think the 2016 design was a mistake, trying to solve problems that didn't exist to camouflage the fact that Macs, and power users, are no longer important to Apple.
