I don't know how else to excite myself....

I already want the next thing.

I remember when I got iPhone X on launch day, 2 days later, I was already bored.

Is that a millennial thing?

Things don't seem to excite me for longer than 48 hours, in some cases, 10 minutes....

I'm just curious to know what things do excite you for longer than 2 days :)

And what kind of feature do you think would keep you entertained? Have you tried the beta for MacOS Mojave? A lot of new stuff there. If that doesn't do the trick, nothing in a future iOS update will.

Everyone is different of course. The fact that you mention that you got bored with your iPhone X so quickly shows how different you are to me. The X still fascinates me every day. Every time I pick it up and I interact with the UI it makes me appreciate the engineering behind it. The gestures, the rounded corners, the feel and design of the hardware, etc. So even after 7 months I'm not close to being bored with my X.

Maybe watch this WWDC demo about the iOS12 UI, animations and fluidity: https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2018/803/ If that doesn't make you appreciate it more, I don't know what will :D

Why does it matter whether Apple called this iOS 12 or 11.5? Why do people get so hung up about that?

How often are you staring at the OS? When I’m on my devices I’m in apps not staring at the home screen.
You can’t be serious? Cause it’s not a big enough upgrade to be known as iOS 12. It is basically iOS 11.5. I’m not saying it sucks. But all I’m saying was if they could have just introduced it as an 11.XX upgrade. No one would have batted an eye.

Which has been said about all kinds of updates before and will be again. Doesn't really make a difference one way or another.

Feel sorry for your partner.

They switch it up ever now and then left a few times then the right.

I’m only kidding this is a joke not a personal affront. Not to be taken seriously. It is intended for humor purposes only.

Who said anything about staring at the OS? I'm talking about how versatile and customisable Android is over iOS. My work's iPhone 8 won't let me change the volume without the UI being obscured by a huge square in the middle of the screen. That stuff is so last decade.

Bored? No way. I stare at it for hours waiting for notifications in the hope I’ll get two from the same app and see them grouped. So thrilling. I’ve learned I need to make more friends.

They can call it 12.0, 11.5 or Bill. They can reuse 4.1.2, skip ahead to 14.0.3, or even call it 5243.9863.28769.4912374. There are no rules, laws, or anything else that governs build numbers. It's nothing but a number that should (but doesn't have to) be larger than the previous number. So if you feel it's "wrong", I'd say that on you for assigning meaning where none exists.

I'm enjoying the performance improvements. When the menus open super fast and my apps open faster, I love it. I've been using the beta since beta 1 on my daily and continue to enjoy how fast my SE is now.

In terms of something that I may be *more* excited about, is dark mode and the dynamic wallpapers on Mojave (and the performance improvements that are supposed to come with that update, as well...as macOS needs some performance boosts, badly.)

It is not supposed to excite you for longer than 48 hours.

If you're excited for more than four hours, see a doctor!!!

If you read/watch anything that discusses smartphone addiction, you’ll know that these devices trigger the following chemicals in us (in an unprecedented way):

Dopamine
This chemical triggers pleasure and you get it when you something that you like appears on your phone. A new message. A pleasing animation etc.

Cortisol
This chemical makes you feel anxious. Have you missed out on something, maybe? Pick up your phone and find out... 10 mins later, do it again....

When we use our devices and apps - which are expressly designed to trigger these two (in varying degrees) - we crave more and more of these chemicals - and the experiences that tigger them - because we are addicts, essentially.

So that’s why we have situations where people use iOS 12 for a few days and then look forward to 2019 and their next ‘fix’.
