Hey, I didn't say it would be easy

And when you go back through that thread you find the forum echo effect in full force. Also, a lot of people that do audio and video recording and editing, like me, have never had the issue.
You should do the bend test first![]()
Are they?
I am not sure if we are talking about the same thread. Are you referring to the Audio popping it T2/BridgeOS crashes? I had constant bridge OS crashes with unit #1. I do nothing with audio.
As with any thread, the forum echo effect is a two way street, for every poster that posts about their issue twice there is some who has no problem sharing that twice as well. It balances out
I am talking about the popping and bridge crashes. I assumed they were related. I have had no bridge crashes of any kind.
But by the same token, the issues with the keyboard have been reported by many other outlets, Apple is dealing with at least two class action suits and issued a repair program. That doesn't sound over blown to meYes they are macRumors users are not Apples entire user base. In fact probably a very small percentage of such. So yea they are overblown So much so they are non-issus AFAIC.

I decided to upgrade my 2015 MBP and ordered a 2018 (spec below). I am aware of the potential hazards based on the feedback in the forums. I have come to the conclusion that this is the place to voice concerns over issues, not to sing praises. And lord I hope I am right!
Of course after placing my order yesterday I began more seriously looking at the forum, and frankly hoping to confirm my bias that the issues are overblown. I haven't had much luck to that end.
Anyway I will be putting it through its paces and report back. I did by the AppleCare + product, and I don't normally do that. Clearly I would prefer to never use it.
I did the trade in program, I don't think it was a good deal, buttt I don't have to mess with selling it.
Wish me luck!!!

I notice your use of the past tense - just wondering why you got rid of it so soon?battery life was great, and there was more then enough cpu cycles for my needs (lightroom/ps/office apps)
I decided the keyboard was too much of an obstacle and I felt I'd get the most money for it now as opposed to the future.I notice your use of the past tense - just wondering why you got rid of it so soon?
That is the one I am replacing. I find it works well. No complaints. When rendering video it likes to run the fan but I expect that. Because of its size I don’t take out of the house. I use my 9.7 iPad Pro for travel usually.Slightly off topic but I saw in an earlier post that you own a 2.2/555X/16gb model - how do you find the performance/battery life etc.?
So for the better performance what are you getting instead? That is the one I am replacing. I find it works well. No complaints. When rendering video it likes to run the fan but I expect that. Because of its size I don’t take out of the house. I use my 9.7 iPad Pro for travel usually.
So battery life sitting in the couch surfing or whatever gets me through a winter day. I am docked when doing real work.
Regrettably I don’t keep metrics in it but a 10 minute video 1080p takes long enough to render that I leave the room and do something else. I use proxy files to edit and doing that I have no issues with performance.
I am playing with 4K more now and would like a little better performance.
Photo editing for customers is fine. Only a few PS layers at most and 36mp files are handled with ease. Some congestion when doing large panel stitches for Personal work. So really for what it is no complaints. Just want something newer.
Well personal opinion for photo editing which is the only part that I am paid for I have zero concerns again portraiture etc. no big deal. For video would the 15 be better with multi-core? Probably. But i use FCP and it does a great job of using the available assets to its potential. So for the better performance what are you getting instead?
Edit: just checked back and saw you went for the 13 - will that be better than the 15 for 4K video and photo editing?

Comparing apples to apples, I broke even. That is the Lenovo X1E had a configuration that was similar to the MBP and that was nearly the same price. I opted for a higher end model this time, as I decided that the 1TB storage was a better fit. I found my use of external drives to hold my Lightroom images to be a bit of an annoyance. That cost be a few hundred dollars more. How much of a lose did you take on your 2018 ?
Never understood the term "coil whine" when it's not a coil that is whining but the fan; unless I'm mistaken and misunderstanding?
WHAT IS COIL WHINE?
Coil whine, also known as electromagnetically excited acoustic noise and vibration or audible magnetic noise, is one of the most frustrating phenomena in modern technology. As its name suggests, this high-pitched noise is caused by electromagnetic coils that act as inductors or transformers. Though it can come from many components, coil whine is usually found in video cards. High-end graphics cards are used to run intensive software or demanding games, which can cause them to work very hard and vibrate. Every PC component has a resonant frequency when coupled with the rest of the electrical circuit. Noise can also occur when the coil is poorly secured to the circuit board. Unfortunately, there is little you can do to reverse or remove coil whine once you have it. However, there are precautions you can take.
LOL Yes thanks.@OP,
Signature ... "2018 MBP 13" i7 1GB" I'm guessing a typo and you got the 1TB option right?

Razer has a RTX 2060/70/80 set of laptops but the base model with the 2060 is 2,400 and that only gets you a FHD screen (at 144Hz) and 512GB drive. The X1E that I got was less money, more storage and a 4k screen. I gave up a better GPU, but under the circumstances it made all the sense in the world for my needsWhen they add a RTX 2060 or 2070 GPU model I will be very tempted.
