Apple is working on an Apple Music reboot focused around AI, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. The reporter made the comments during a Discord chat over the weekend.

Gurman didn't eleborate, except to say that Apple has no release ETA for the reboot, suggesting Apple won't mention it at WWDC this week. Turning to rivals like Spotify for inspiration, AI features could potentially include AI-produced playlists or an "AI DJ," but that's just speculation.

What is expected to be previewed for the Apple Music app this week is support for full screen animated art on the Lock Screen. The current Now Playing view tints the Lock Screen based on album art, but in iOS 26, album art could be even larger.

For all the other things we're expecting from iOS 26 and Apple's other software platforms, check out our comprehensive WWDC preview guide.

DJs should be first in the line for AI replacement, honestly… All they do nowadays is play pre-recorded Ableton sets and pretend “they are doing something”. Imagine if Apple actually drops automix or automix with manual song picking, it would change personal audio experience significantly. Imagine: buttesmooth transition between tracks, everything perfectly mixed in-key

UPD: They did it, THEY DID IT!!!!!!!!!!

Please no, that’s the stupidest thing I’ve seen in such a long time (I’m referring to the Spotify version)

I'd hope that they can use AI to get much much better at music recommendations and discovery.
Spotify is way better than Apple is with this.

I've been negative to Apple of late, so some positives of Apple Music:

The focus on artist interviews both on the radio but also with album launches (text only) is great.

I really like the focus too on Dj sets.

The radio stations - not so keen on this, but I get that millions love this.

The music app on macOS is an absolute joke, coded by what would seem to be bottom of the class students. The amount of bugs and terrible performance is astonishing.

Let’s get that rewritten from the ground up.

And where on earth is continuity for Apple Music? Why can’t I start listening to a playlist or song on my Mac and then automatically continue via my phone or watch, or vice versa. I just don’t get how this isn’t a thing.

If Apple could get its music analysis and recommendations up to the level of Pandora and Spotify, that would be great. The Music Genome Project that fed into Pandora led to some fantastic reommendations for my back in the 2000s before the service became geolocked to the US. Spotify is also pretty good at recommending new tracks from artists I haven't come across before.

Don’t know… if it promotes my music more - then yes! If it doesn’t - then no… I post to 13 social media platforms and I’m doing a lot of work…. Been recording since the 1990’s

Great so I can be force recommended music I hate, mixed with whatever history month.
Nah at the moment I’m forced music by artists I never heard of I was a ok with genius mixes from the iPod days I have music in my library that I have never heard in the past five years because they keep pushing all this new crap that I don’t care for. I bet it has to do with royalties at the end of the day, like why give established artist even more dreams when there’s tons of young artists out here starving that you don’t know if that could be good and while yes, that’s true. I wanna hear the crap that I like.

Done right, there's a ton of potential to this.

Using AI to get recommendations on songs that have the same atmosphere, instrumentation, topic, or BPM as the one you're currently listening to, for example, could open up whole new avenues of music discovery and playlist creation

Can we get it as a spin-off then so there becomes a basic 'Music' app designed to just let you play and search?

Do people actually use all the other features?

My biggest gripe with Apple Music is that it doesn't sync seamlessly like Spotify does. If I'm playing music on my iPhone and open my MacBook Pro, I get errors about music playing in multiple locations. Spofify instantly starts playing on my computer.
