ive got this going on too at the moment....not sure why

Do you have any widgets running in notification Centre? I had 3 so disabled them all and now my usage is less than standby. I'll enable them one by one to see if there is a clear culprit.

The battery life of the iPad Air 2 seems to be on par with the iPhone 6 Plus. It used to be about double for the Air 1.

iLounge called out the battery life on the Air 2 in their review - in one of the tests it was > 3 hours less than the Air.

Anyway, I got a replacement Air 2 yesterday and for the first couple of hours, the Usage and Standby figures where different and accurate. I checked it this morning and the usage had jumped up to 15 hours with a standby of 17 hours since the last charge. This is starting to show the same behaviour as the first Air 2 I got. I thought it was related to widgets but my retina mini which is also running iOS 8.1 and has the exact same widgets etc. running does not have this issue.
So it's either something related to the Air 2 or more likely something software related on the Air 2 which was carried over in a restore. More digging to be done.

What? Are you saying the Air 2 has half the battery life than Air 1?

From what I can read, Air 2 has about 1-2 hours less battery life in direct comparison to Air 1.

Wait... so are these battery issues relative to previous generations of the product or relative to the claimed battery life? As I remember, claimed battery life is only 10 hours. So if you are getting 12 (even if it is lower than what the previous generation offered) then you should still be in good shape.

Or am I missing something?

You're absolutely spot on.

I would go as far as to say that the battery in the Air 1 was too good. At least in light of the 10 hours claim.

My forecast was around the 8 hour mark for Wifi browsing @ 30% brightness after I used up 25% for 2 hours browsing but iLounge review confirms they got 8 hr 40 mins with their review sample:

I suspect I have a software issue on mine which I am currently investigating but iLounge are saying they are getting 3 hours less with the Air 2 than the Air and that is 1 hr 20 mins less than Apple's official figure! Weirdly though, they said the Mini 3 is getting less runtime than the mini 2 even though they have mostly identical hardware and are hopeful this may be iOS 8.1 related and fixable to a point.

Okay then, so it is possibly short of advertised battery life. I wonder if there is anything to the whole "use it for a few weeks and then check it" suggestion. I know that the battery life on my iPhone 6 improved over the first two weeks... or maybe I just didn't use it as much :)

I do hope it improves and I accept there can be a trade off with the extra power available but disappointed that the drop is so much when they unnecessarily reduced the thickness which in turn required a smaller capacity battery. A poor design choice IMHO. Just leave it the same thickness but increase the size of the battery as well as give us the A8X, 2GB RAM, bonded screen and touch id. I think everyone would have been happy with that instead of a thinner device which has compromises.

Sure it may be worse than the Air 1.....but the Air 1 was insane and I didn't really need a week of battery life.

Air 2 has been more than capable for my needs. More than 10 hours of use and two days on standby.

I have to agree with you there... leave it the same thickness and give it some more battery. I would be all in for that.

Right now I'm at 9% battery with:
Usage: 11 hours
Standby: 1 day 11 hours

Are we seriously complaining about battery?

Got mine Friday so ivebeen through several discharge/recharge cycles.

Just plugged in,

14 hr 28 mins usage
20 hr 54 min standby

24% left

Pretty much only Safari and some cards games so it looks really good. I'm sure it would be a lot less if I had played any video or more intensive games.

All in all pretty much on par with my Air 1.

Well after checking out all my settings, I performed a reset all settings last night. This morning, it appears that usage is reporting correctly and it much less than the standby figure. I've configured some things this morning and will leave it during the day to make sure the usage figures remain correct before completing the rest of my configuration but hopefully this will resolve my usage/standby figures issue.

My usage is pretty much on par with my Air. Maybe I'm in the minority but if I can get a FULL day of usage on an iPad, I don't see the problem here. Plug it in at night. Also, new devices tend to get used WAY more the first week or so.

But overall, love the Air 2. My only complaint would be that iOS 8.1 is still a little buggy.

Here is my second complete discharge...

Brightness at 33% the entire time.

I am happy with my 8 hour 100% screen battery life. I don't understand how people need more than that on a daily basis for an iPad, unless you're in class for 8 hours straight with no plug. if that's the case you should invest in a portable battery anyhow.

And if you just happen to travel all the time, again, you'd need a portable battery for almost every device to stay connected.

I don't know. Maybe I'm missing something. But with a smart phone and iPad, I never run out of juice on a normal day.

Bought mine on Monday. Other than the install of my backup via computer, I have yet to charge it. I was around 30% this morning.
