Andy,
I just squeezed mine, bounced it while holding it like you are, and even shook it. The only thing that happened was a "UndoTyping" option popped up when I shook it. Didn't know it had that feature.

If you're experiencing that, take it back. That's easy for me to say, since there are 4 Apple stores within 30-60 minutes of me.

I can just walk around holding it with my right hand and see it as I walk. Happens either in the Apple case or out.

That is unbelievable! It is obvious from the video you are not squeezing or pressing, simply carrying with your right hand. And 2 layers of Apple leather case between your fingers and back of the iPad! WITH is going on with Apple's "House of Design"?!?!

Update:
If I put my thumb along the right hand edge, and torqued my fingers on the back, I get a very small puddle effect, but nothing like what Andy has in his video. It only appears on one spot, and I tried all along the edge. This is well outside of the way I use an iPad, so not an issue for me.

You have to remember that these devices have a warranty, and it's supposed to be pretty good. ;)

Yeah I'm gonna have to handle it via ups as my closest Apple store is in Raleigh nc 2 hours up the road

Air 2 Screen distoring when holding.

Use other hand to carry! Lol.

Perhaps not ideal but not a show stopper by any means

Yeah but I was on the fence when choosing 64 or 128. Now I have a reason to return and get 128:)

Tried the same just now, I might be able to reproduce it but I'd explicitly need to torque my fingers in an unnatural way I'd never carry the pad around anyway.

I'm getting a bit bored by the aluminum stuff though.. it's basically another form of bending (i guess "form follows function" kinda got lost along the way in the design department [or is taken too literally ;) ]..)

Mine is the same, as well as every display model in the 2 apple stores I visited. Probably just keeping mine for now.

This was my experience in the Apple Store today also. Everyone I checked did this with very little pressure. Mine does it with the case on but not just holding it. I love this iPad and will not return it over this. Also won't test it again as I don't want to damage the iPad.

Feel the same way, I'm disappointed because this is where I usually hold the iPad. But just going to keep it and live with it, everything else is incredible.

was interested in upgrading from my rMini and saw this thread. just stopped by the NYC Grand Central Apple Store. Every single unit did this but only if i squeezed with a decent amount of force (around 15-20?). It did not happen when holding it as I normally would. I did not try picking it up to see if it would happen during that process.

Even more unacceptable to me was that EVERY unit had a noticeable blue tinged strip on the left edge, which was really noticeable on a white background, (which unfortunately most iOS 7+ apps are nowadays). I am OCD on screen evenness and this is a deal breaker for me. This was the case when I stopped by the 5th Ave store the other day and last year with the Airs.

Now I'm in a dilemma, id like to give my rMini to my dad so he can see photo stream pics of his grandson (he's rocking my old 1) and I really like touch ID. So do i get an rMini 3 which doesn't have the screen issues above? Paying for old tech bothers me. Plus I'm cheap, even though money is not an issue, it really bothers me to fork out for old tech.

Maybe stop by the store some other day then if you can and grab one from a new batch?
(Ever since I had the pleasure of getting a rMini with a dent on arrival I always do a quick check in the store to rule out the worst case scenario. iOS 7/8 botting into a white screen upon first boot certainly helps ruling these issues out)

Distortion on mine as well when pushed. But, screen is excellent so no return for me. Only happens under pretty specific conditions so I'm ok with it.

I picked up a 64gb wifi today and it does it as well. Probably won't return it over this though, I never hold it like that. I have a buddy who is lead genius at our local apple store I will try and ask him about it when I see him tomorrow.

This is pretty bad.

But, if it does't appear with your normal use, i'm not sure it's worth getting worried about. A bit shoddy.

Stupid thin obsession, like tech anorexia.

I know one thing though:

If this doesn't appear in your normal use, but having read about it here you make this happen and can't stop making it happen, then you have a problem, and it's not the iPad.

They did extensive field testing, so the people that were using these, don't use it in such a way as were this is an issue. In other words, 'normal usage by normal people'

They did extensive field testing (absolutely exhaustive), so the people that were using these, Incuding Tim most likely, don't use it in such a way as were this is an issue. In other words, 'normal usage by normal people'

This is a fact.

It does happen with my normal use. Walking with or picking up the ipad is normal use.

Didn't expect an serious answer. Thank you.

Well, to be honest, this was half-way serious. Some people say they dont have it, while others say they've been to a store and all display units + the one they bought had this issue. So there is no way to tell unless you find someone who has 2 units with one that has this issue and one that hasnt.

(It's not like this issue pops right at you, i only noticed it after i read this thread and specifically looked for it)

It absolutely happens to some people's normal use, maybe not yours. That's how I've held every iPad, and I have had most of them. I'm keeping mine, because I have seen the exact same thing on about 13 others, but it is still an issue that shouldn't be there.

Really?

Gosh, I don't have mine with me. I've seen this before with tablets. It shows up
with cheaper tablets made of plastic.

I mean, I had a Samsung tablet who's screen was literally falling off, and the all did it. People were taping them on :D

Maybe Apple blew it?

If I see this ONCE with normal use it goes back and i'm certainly not going to buy another one.

What garbage.

note: then again, if the lte ones aren't doing it, that's an option I suppose.
