Ok,

So I went to the Apple store today.

I showed the guy the issue on my 128 Silver LTE.

He said "wow" and picked up the ipad. He was able to see it VERY EASY. He said "that's not right, lets get you another"

So he brings out the new 1 and sure enough the new 1 did it also. However the new 1 only does it in the middle spot on the right. The one I brought in does it on the entire right side.

We then went over to the display units and ALL of them did it. He said that he will let his manager know.

I then asked if I could keep the new one that does it less and he said sure.

So Apple was VERY nice about the entire thing. The guys was super nice. He also took notes to forward to the repair team. He asked if they could contact me with any questions and I said sure.

In the end I'm VERY happy with my iPad air 2. This is NOT a deal breaker for me. I just needed my last one traded out because the problem was much worst then my new 1.

I just needed to be sure I didn't have a defective unit.

Anyone with this issue in just 1 or 2 spots, Id say you got a good 1. If it doesn't bother you, you should keep it.

Anyone with the issue in more then 2 spots on the right I'd suggest you exchange it.

PS- side note. beyond this issue, The ipad air 2 is great. Of all 3 I had, all 3 had great screens.. No yellow/pixel/spine issues.

:D:apple:

Thanks, that's helpful.

Actually my use of this thing doesn't really entail holding it much, but it's best to be prepared for experiencing this, as it would be somewhat disconcerting.

I went to Best Buy in Fairless Hills, PA. I mention the location, because they have a corporate rep there, Kevin, and they sell a TON of Apple product. When I bought an Air last year, this Best Buy had them in portable cages. I'd never seen so many devices at one time!

So I told him about this "issue", and showed it to him on the display model. He casually said, "Yeah, something's pressing against the back of the display." Since it goes away the instant the pressure is released, it would seem harmless. Hell, if I press my thumb against my eyelid, it hurts. I don't normally press my thumb against my eyelid. :D

This appears to happen in only one spot on my Air 2, and the same spot on the store display. Don't press that spot. If anyone here is into road cycling, you might notice that your lightweight wheels flex while cornering at higher speeds. They're not defective at all, just lightweight. I had considered giving my Air 1 to my sister, but her pre-kindergarten kids would smash it in less than 5 minutes.
I've been using my Air 2 for many hours since it arrived Thursday, and I never noticed this spot until I read how to reproduce it here.

Like I've said before, Apple has a great warranty, and this will not be an issue for me. I think it will only be an issue for people who carry it like Andy. I'm not singling you out as doing anything wrong, Andy, but you supplied the video. ;)
While on my way to Best Buy, I was thinking that Andy's case might cause this to happen more easily, as its weight adds to the torsion applied on that edge of the screen/chassis.

So now do you see it in normal use? Or this one you have to be poking at it to make it happen?

Yeah I think most of us were/are just concerned that OUR unit was defective. Me knowing that they all can/could do it made me not concerned about the issue. I did however need to exchange my 128 model due to the issue happening on the entire right side no matter how I held it.

Heck I was able to get the Apple guy to see it just by handing him the iPad.

I now plan to enjoy my iPad Air 2.

It still happens with normal use (holding in right hand while walking "for example"). However it's MUCH less then my last unit.

Yeah but I was on the fence when choosing 64 or 128. Now I have a reason to return and get 128:)

I like the way you think, Andy!

Important Note:
I'm left handed! Also, I always use an iPad in landscape mode, unless I'm viewing a photo. Always.....

lol. I tried using left and and it didn't work for me. I kept going right. :D

I went to the Apple Discussion forums. I found a 1 year old thread of people complaining about the first iPad Air was way too thin and they could press the glass from the front and make the LCD distort. That the glass was too thin. That Apple should stop making things so thin. Haha

I agree. This thin craze bit them in the ass, total garbage. Should have kept the case EXACTLY the same and upgraded the insides exactly how they did. Tim Cook dropping the ball.

Apple needs to use a stronger backing or make the next iPad thicker. I like the thin ipad but not at the expense of features or screen effects like this issue.

I have faith in Apple to get things right again.

Yeah I'd expect the issue when pressing the front. However light pressing on the back from the weight of just supporting the device with 1 hand should NOT cause the effect.

----------

I'm having trouble getting this to happen and I am actually trying hmmm

Then i'd suggest you walk away and stop trying now. You're lucky to not see it. ;)

Apparently the case makes it worse because of the thickness

If this issue is for real, then surely Apple will do something about this.

This issue can damage your LCD eventually. Nothing should be pressing or warping your screen.

It's pretty common for thin laptop screens to do this since they bend and twist easily. I don't think it will cause damage but it certainly should not happen on a screen meant to be held.

I am of the opinion Apple is going overboard with thinness. If they want to continue this they need to switch to more exotic materials like titanium or magnesium.

I waited all this time. I should've gotten an Air 1. All this sounds scary. Bringing back antenna gate memories.

Just because it happens to all the iPad Air 2s doesn't mean its meant to do that. just look at the xbox360 overheating problems that happened a few years back that cost Microsoft $800 million to replace and alter all those faulty xbox360s.

Mine does it if forced when naked, but with the Smart Case on it is difficult to make happen.

128GB WIFI.

Likewise with mine. In the smart case it is difficult but not impossible to make it happen. It certainly takes more than the weight of the iPad to make it happen.

It's easier without the case, but it still takes a determined effort. If I hadn't read about the problem I wouldn't have noticed it.

Maybe mine is defective.

16GB, wifi only, space gray.

Oh I agree. But at this time it is the way it is. I suggest anyone with the issue to contact Apple about it regardless of if you plan to keep the ipad you have or not.

Let Apple know of the issue.

Air 2 Screen distoring when holding.

I've tried it on my 128 Cellular model and I cannot do it. You guys must have a heck of a grip. lol!

I think its ridiculous that we as consumers even have to deal with all of these faulty iPads. Apple should have quality tested the devices before producing millions of them.

They don't have to. Millions of people will buy them anyway, and then if you complain, they'll just tell you that you're holding it wrong or something stupid like that. Because parroting that line back over and over NEVER gets old.

The only way that Apple or any other company will make changes is when people start voting with their wallets. And it just doesn't seem like many people do that with Apple. I was going to use the Air 2 to move on from my iPad 3. I guess that I can make it last another year, though. Hopefully Apple starts rethinking the thin madness thing that it's got going on.

The worry with this is if it gets worse over time, if this is happening straight out of the box what will it be like after six months use?

It could be terrible. I guess we are lucky these things come with a warranty.

iPad Air 2 SG cellular 128gb. Not having this issue despite tapping/pressing on all parts of the back of iPad.

Me neither. Same model. I have not tried sitting on it yet though. I'm thinking they'll be some screen distortion then.
