My screen is yellow on the left and correct on the right.....I cannot believe this is happening! But, I'm sure apple will fix it!

About a month from now it will be fixed on new models. If you want a clear screen wait til then.

What did you say to the employee for your reason returning it?

I said that the left side of the screen was a different colour to the right, more yellow. He had a look on a grey background, said he saw it and swapped it out.

I have exactly the kind of thing the OP described, though mine is fairly subtle. I'm not sure that most people would mind it, but I find it irritating, and given that I sprung from the 128gb model, I'm not going to keep it.

Given all the other reports here, and my general feeling that the Air isn't worth upgrading from iPad 4 anyway, I'm probably just going to take my money back and wait to get my hands on a mini whenever they become available.

Though to be honest, I'm sure I'll change my mind 50 different times before I end up taking action. The only thing I'm sure about is I'm definitely not keeping this unit.

Can someone post a picture of the issue so I can compare it to mine? The issue for me is very subtle, but I expect, and want better from a $600 device.

Yellow on one side, blue on the other... Sounds like IPS glow. It varies from one screen to another, if it's too bad exchange it.

Why don't all of you send a feed back to apple! The QC is rubbish I guess!!!

My screen is yellow on the left and then slowly fades to looking better on the right. It's subtle but obviously there.

This isn't exactly the first batch of iPads ever made. By now you'd think they'd have discoloration and unevenness issues sorted out.

And in fact, after a string of discolored and uneven ipad 3s, I thought the issue was resolved, because my ipad 4 and mini were both perfect, as were all my co worker's 4s and minis.

The pinkish/dirty screen on the Air I got today was like traveling back in time. I returned it tonight. I'm not interested in getting caught up in another endless buy/return loop like I experienced with the ipad 3.

After having sold my 32gb mini, at a considerable loss, via craigslist, in order to fund the Air, I purchased another mini tonight...16gb. Financially painful, but the new mini screen is as perfect as the previous one.

Sadly, I will be doing what I typically frown upon; "borrowing" this 16gb mini and returning it when the retina mini comes out Sorry Apple, but you've made it so I rely on an ipad as part of the Apple ecosystem I have become so inextricably invested in.

I lost money on my previous mini, and untold time backing up, wiping, restoring, only to find out the Air is two steps forward and three steps back, in terms of screen quality. (Several other display models at the Apple store showed similar discoloration and darkening on the left edge). I won't be iPadless while Apple gets their act together, so I will have a loaner, thank you very much.

I hope and assume that the retina mini screen, being smaller, will be less prone to patchy discoloration and dark spots. And I hope that despite the reports of limited availability, Apple won't rush them.

Its people like you that make Apple products so expensive, how dare you have a loaner;);)

Just for the record i had a iPad 4 with pinks screen and light leak, second one no pink, small light leak but gets warm on 4G. Its a LOTTERY:)

Yeah, I'm usually the guy who gives that speech. I won't be giving it again. But this time I figure, it will cost Apple less money if I just hang on to one mini for a couple of weeks instead of returning 5 Airs.

i want to thank everyone for the early test runs. in a few months from now i will be holding one of your iPads in my hands with a replaced screen, new shell, and new battery for $50-$100 less than what you paid.

thanks again, i couldn't have done it with you guys :D

I had major quality control issues with my iPhone 4 (cosmetic damage on 3 different units out of the box) and with my iPad 2 (several units in a row with dust under the screen or scratches). I was very vocal about them on these forums, and I was very pissed off at Apple at the time (though they did always make it right in the end.)

That being said, I've had an iPad 3, an iPhone 5, and now an iPad Air with no issues at all. Speaking specifically about the iPad Air, my screen is evenly lit with no splotches or yellowish areas, and it has zero cosmetic damage.

Over the last few years, Apple has had to learn how to ship significantly more product at one time than it used to, but I think they're getting the process down a lot better. Unfortunately, I think some people have had some issues, and are used to inspecting their gadgets with a fine toothed comb before they can even enjoy them. It's a shame. Part of it is that people are too picky (I used to be WAY too picky, but finally realized that life is to short to worry about it), and part of it is that you're paying several hundred dollars for a new gadget and you feel (rightly so) that it should be perfect.

screw them they want our money then make a descent product:eek:

I had started a thread like this one the day before the iPad air was released, without even having an iPad air yet! I expected nothing less and it has become the norm for me to expect display issues with apple!

All this time for apple to get it right but yet continues to manufacture a skittles rainbow effect screens. Energy and resources ran dry for me long ago in terms of getting a decent screen, see you next year ,maybe, iPad!

8 hours of usage with my iPad air and no defective screen to report.

I'm planning on returning mine tomorrow, and sticking with my 4th Generation for now. Hopefully they'll be better in a month or two.

I suspect the screen gradation on the new iPad Airs is down to the fact that there is a single lamp illuminating the screen. With the iPad 3 and iPad 4 there were two lamps presumably one at each side of the screen. There are definitely huge variations in quality with the screens on the iPad Air, so I would suggest anyone with a poor screen takes it back and gets it exchanged immediately

I don't seem to have any issues at all on mine with color evenness or light bleed/leak.

However...in the lower left corner when held in portrait mode, I do have a "bubble" beneath the glass. I just happened by chance to catch a glimpse of it when light from a lamp hit the screen in that spot. It doesn't seem to interfere with the image being displayed.

I'll probably take it in to the genius bar to show them. I don't want to get into a swapping game really, but I think they should be aware of the issues at least.

Hadn't noticed anything but just checked again. On a totally white screen, I can perhaps see the faintest line imaginable down the left, as is being described here. That said, it's ridiculously faint and I'm not even sure that my eyes aren't deceiving me. This is only on a completely white screen too, can't see anything wrong at all in normal use.

I think that either mine is fine or the problem is being blown out of proportion (no offence to anyone who may be genuinely suffering from a bigger screen issue of course).

PS. If anyone wants an app to test solid white or coloured screens then give Colorspin Flashlight a try.

Mine hasn't been delivered yet but I am seriously thinking about returning it unopened. Don't think I can go through the screen lottery, it's an absolute joke that this happens on every product year after year.

:(

Yeah i had one on hold, didn't pick it up, it was from a telco so new it would be a nightmare to swap. iPad 4 i got from them had light leak and then had to deal with Apple.
