Just re-quoting a nice vid previewing the marvellous Air, for our dear friend Max , showing the live efficiency and trustworthiness of press medias !

http://youtu.be/EWjmlSkN4uE

08:57 and 16:31 are my favourites, I do get the exact same differences with my 4thGen pad.

I've been through 7 or 8 Airs, and all have had either severe color shift or dead pixels.

The one I have now has a consistent white display, but unfortunately also has a dark line down the left edge (in portrait mode), as well as backlight bleed that is obvious in normal use (e.g watching a tv show with black bars on top and bottom).

I'm curious if everyone has the dark left-side line and backlight bleed to some extent. It would be a shame to return this unit as it at least has a nice white display.

I've got an even coloured screen but backlight bleed I'm umming and rrrring whether to return or keep not sure hoped for better but as I said in an earlier post I've had every major tablet this year and all had backlight bleed

My display sounds similar to yours, although I would not say mine is perfectly even, but it's close enough for me. I went through a lot of Airs and all the ones I saw had the faint black line on the far left in portrait mode, some had it worse than others. Absolutely none had a left side border that was as white and bright as the right side in portrait mode.

My current one also has that smokey line, but the display is even enough for me to keep. I'm afraid to exchange and get something worse because I know too well how easy it is to get something worse. For me, by far the biggest issue has been the two toned screen with the yellow left side issue. I did also have some that had pink and green in the screen as well.

I have some back light bleeding as well, but it's minor on mine. I had some screens that had it worse, but I also had a few that didn't have any back light bleeding at all. I find it really is still a crap shoot with the Air screens, so be careful exchanging it if you think your current screen is something you can use and be happy with. My 2 cents.

It's really beyond me how anyone could not see the problems after watching that.

All I can see in that video is a different white balancing between iPad 4 and iPad Air (especially at minute 16:35).
Surely nothing to return 7 or 8 iPads ........

You can also clearly see the black shadow on the far left border of the iPad Air in that video. Far right border is pure white, far left is smokey gray. Easy to see at the 16:35 mark.

Now would be a good time to admit you can't tell the difference between an even and uneven white background.

I have ipad air 32gb wifi silver and i had same problem. (Black shadow on the left and color hue getting yellow to white) I bought it from apple premium reseller.

This problem is so obvious on many of the ipad airs, and I am shocked that apple actually let this enormous flaw out of the gates, and seemingly hasn't fixed it.

I have bought and returned 7 or so airs with the same results for each. All of them had the yellow discolouration... Different serial numbers, manufacturers, batches. My current iPad air doesn't necessarily have a huge load yellow tent, but is slightly yellow, and the right half of the screen is significantly brighter than the left half.

This is not a fluke. This is an inherent design flaw with the new iPad air screen, and was never ironed out before production started. I have also checked out countless iPads at premium retailers, and Apple stores. Most if not all of them had screen flaws of some sort... The bar, the yellow, and sometimes both.

My ipad 3 had a perfect screen. I don't get why apple screwed up so Badly on their flagship model.

You've returned it 7 times? What a waste of time. Maybe you have OCD.

Received my iPad Air in the mail today and from my eyes the screen is absolutely perfect. I've examined it pretty thoroughly albeit it's still inside that little plastic wrap until I receive my case in the mail tomorrow. I was getting kind of scared after reading through this topic about black bar and rainbow colored tints. I ordered mine through this seller on Amazon:

I would like to think that if people here really knew what OCD is, they wouldn't so glibly and casually use it as a clichéd insult to try to mock and belittle those who disagree with them.

Not OCD, however, I expect a uniform screen if I'm paying over 700$ for a media consumption device that is all about the screen.

I love the ipad, it has changed my life, I just want one I am going to love 3 years from now and not notice a vivid discolouration on one half when I'm reading... Anything really.

Also, I will admit that I am picky about my displays. Again. 700$ product. Maybe I've invested 2 hours into my search thus far. Not bad considering the amount of time we spend on these devices. The reason that people do it is because they are enthusiasts and love apple products. We just simply want the best ones. Not tinted yellow ones.

Here are two ipad airs

The One on the left has good lighting but terrible yellow hue and uneven tone

The one on the right has a nice clear temperature but is dimmer on the one side.

Or maybe he got 7 bad airs.

For those who are in denial about the screen issues, what exactly is your mindset coming into this thread? Bust some balls because you don't have the problem, or because you don't see it or don't care?

Display is one of the ipads primary utilities. A dead pixel, an uneven screen, a dark tint on one side, etc. all warrant returns. IMO, they warrant brand new units since that is what you are paying for.

i had 3x ipad air. All 3 returned because of the yellow colour on the lift side
and one with extreme backlight bleeding

i asked for refund and will try in another 6month or or so.

don't have any confidence that apple can supply me a good copy.

personally with all the returns and forums about this topic my guess is that Apple is aware of the problem but because of the christmas holdiday, sales are more important. Pressure to produce is huge so QC is low.

They have the please the stockholders .....

In this photo I just see two perfectly usable and working iPads with a slightly different white color calibration ...

And what is that supposed to prove? It is the pinnacle of narcissism to believe that your perception of reality is the sole accurate and acceptable one.

If you feel warm, no one can feel cold? If your environment is bright, no one anywhere can be in darkness? If you are hungry, everyone should eat?

Perhaps you should take the time to carefully read before you make statements like this. Nowhere did he say, or even imply, that what he saw was objective truth.

I didn't say you have to like it. I just said that what is showed by the picture is just a warmer calibrated screen, not a defective unit.
If you don't like it, Im not going to argue.

Ordered from Target 12/22, received today. No retouching - only crop and offset.

Clarification Edit: All images are same photo of same unit. Second and third photos are offset to more easily compare sides/corners.

Those displays look great, Brent. I returned a week 38 128GB Air to Walmart this week, and bought a week 48 two days ago. The first was green on one side, and pink on the other. We bought another 128GB from Best Buy on Black Friday, and that was very nice. The second one we bought from Walmart has a VERY slight green-blue tint to the screen, but it's incredibly uniform. The 128GB from Best Buy is a definite keeper, and I'm warming up to the 128GB from Walmart. We also bought a 128GB rMini from Walmart, and its screen is very nice(!!!!).

I've seen uneven screens, and we had an rMini with a half yellow, half white screen. At these prices I want to enjoy the display. Walmart stamps the date on their price stickers, so if you want a more recently manufactured model that might help. I don't know if that makes a difference, but many people want one built in December.

Just to clarify, that's all the same unit and same photo - just offset to compare sides and corners. So the second image is still the same photo but with the right half positioned on the left and left on right. Etc.

Some people might be ok with it, but I'm not.
