The annoying part comes from sitting down and actually using the iPad, not by glancing at a bunch of photos on a forum.

This is my point: is there any real impact on daily use on a 5% variation across the screen ?
In my opinion judging the photo showed i would say no, but I didn't have a chance di look at that iPad by myself.
I don't know about my iPad, and I'm not going to do any analysis like this because I'm absolutely happy about this display. It surely is on the warm side of white balancing, but I don't consider this a bad point at all.

I agree, it's not a bad thing, if it's across the whole screen, but that's not the problem being complained about in this thread.

You're wasting your breath. This point has been made time and again in this thread, but posters like Max insist on misrepresenting the issue to make it sound petty and trivial. The overall calibration of the display is not and has never been the issue.

The photos and numerical data speak for themselves.

First we were told that the uniformity issues didn't exist and were just in our heads. After proving that a DSLR sensor confirms the problem numerically, the argument has become that the variance isn't enough to matter.

I find it humorous that we are being called OCD, yet these same people who say their screen is perfect, or that it's not uneven enough to be an issue, are routinely returning to this thread with the sole purpose of defending a problem they don't even think exists.

Maybe they should take their own advice and "enjoy their iPad" and stop obsessively checking and replying to this thread.

Air screen defect?

I just googled a minute ago 'iPad Air defective' and if, a month ago, the search brought nothing except that thread we re in, now the search brings loads of websites and forum.
The people accusing us with OCD are the usual Apple fanboy club you will always find on your way as soon as you dare spotting an issue . Nothing serious though, the defect is now well known as well as it's scale. Massive. Most comments agree that the culprit could be the fact that due to high demand Apple hired for the Air companies like LG which they have generally avoided because of its low q. Pity they choose the Air for this move, because except the display problems this pad could have been a brilliant product.
Who knows, now that Xmas is behind, perhaps App,e will pay better attention to these problems and sort this before they release the next iPad ? I somehow doubt it, but let's hope.

Picked up the iPad Air this morning. Thus far, I haven't noticed any screen issues that so many here have been battling. I was really concerned that I would end up having to return it while I was still in the Apple store. Glad that I missed the bullet. Usually, I am the one that always ends up with some kind of defective product.

Yeah I agree with you BasicGreatGuy ... I got an iPad Air for Christmas and the first thing I did was check for any yellow tint or any sort for screen defect. But I haven't noticed anything either .. the screen is crystal clear - I'm also glad I missed the bullet! :_))

Congrats. This is one nice tablet. I am very impressed with the speed and screen quality. Santa was good to me this year.

I'm not happy with my tint. But I can live with it. There are certain times where it's impossible to tell that there is one, like when watching video. But there are other times when it's very clear to see.

I'm much the same as you. It's most noticeable when using the white keyboard, as the left hand side is noticeably dimmer than the right.

Alright. As I expected, photos of gray calibration card (in my case an 18%-gray mouse mat) next to the iPad screen didn't work since both white balance and exposure were too different (ambient light vs. LED backlights).

I was thinking later, though, that maybe what you were after was just to see how uniform a photograph of the gray card would be. So, attached is a crop of a portion of the gray mat. Keep in mind that this is a fabric surface so it's not completely clean. Still, there is very little variation in tone.

I then used the gray mat illuminated only by the iPad screen to set a custom, fixed white balance and took some more photos of the iPad screen - this time the Settings page because gray looks even worse than white. To further eliminate the possibility of viewing angle issues, I used the custom white balance to take photos framing just opposite corners rather than just cropping them from the larger one.

These photos capture the way the screen actually looks in-person very well.

Looks fine brah. Move on with life and buy yourself a new ipad air next year. That's your best bet at getting a better screen.

Take care my friend.

I did the same research and most (if not All) of the websites point at this and Apple support forum .....
The defect could exists, in some unit, but is not massive at all.

How can you have any idea how big or small the problem is? Nobody, including you, can produce any numbers or account for the people that have iPads with defects but didn't notice it or didn't bother doing anything about it. You could say the same exact thing about the bugs with IOS 7. The majority of users aren't complaining about those either.

So I finally got my iPad Air yesterday and my screen is almost perfect. There is one very minor light bleed in the corner that I can only see, believe it or not, through my iPhone camera. I can't notice it on a white screen, I can't notice it on a black screen. Either I got really lucky and got a good Air, or you people are going extremely out of the way to find flaws with an otherwise phenomenal device. I understand that for 500+ dollars we should all be getting a flawless unit, but otherwise I don't understand why this is such a big issue

Funny, I did the same google search yesterday after seeing it brought up on another forum. I'm glad to see more sites reporting the issue now. I don't feel optimistic it will be fixed any time soon, but I'm glad to see it's getting widespread attention at least.

My first ipad air had a rose tint, more pronounced in the bottom of the screen. Exchanged for a screen that is perfect. Welcome to the screen lotto!

They are selling millions of iPads .... If there were a major issue, with millions or even hundred thousands of returned units, Apple would have declared the product defective and retired from the market.
The majority of users aren't complaining because they are satisfied.

My left half of the screen is definitely more yellowish than the right half. Don't know if it's worth taking back right now because it seems like I'm not the only one with the problem.

Same here...:(
Sooo frustrating...haven't been across a decent screen first time out of the box since iPad 2, problems with 3 and then 4 and now Air,really disappointing...

Really? You don't remember the iphone 4 and it's antenna problems? All Apple did was give everyone who complained a free bumper and fixed the problem for the 4S. At no time did they admit there was a design problem, yet they must have known about it since they had produced the bumper, a product they have not produced since.

Apple never admit to anything being wrong.

mmmm... A free Apple screen protector for iPad Air with slight yellow tint on RIGHT hand side, and for iPad rmini - on top side?

Do Apple actually have anyone checking display quality?! Almost every type of device they produce has screen defects and inconsistencies.

It's so frustrating.........hoping mine is ok when it arrives :)

Can someone post a pic?

Do you know how to make 100% perfect screens for 600 million devices? Neither does Foxconn, Apple, Samsung, LG, or any other company in the world. You are talking to a vocal few that are perfectionists on a computer oriented forum. At sigma 3 for 600 million iOS devices, the predicted defect amount is 42 million of products.

This is because there wasn't any antenna problem.
They improved antenna design in 4s , but iPhone 4 was perfectly usable and they sold millions ....

Muhaha!... Yeah , sure thing. They would retire the Air from the market . Of course. So naive, so cute . LOL

If there were thousands of returned defective units, definitely YES .... but this isn't the case.
There are a small percentage of truly defective units and a bunch of whiners on a few of specific forums.

I can assure you there was. I could drop calls without even trying just by holding the phone in my hand normally. No death grip, just the base of my thumb along the side of the phone, bridging the antenna gap. I did not have the same problem when using the phone in a case, which clearly tells me that this was not my hand shielding the signal.

What is it with people who cannot admit Apple have produced flawed products?
