They are hurting their name... Air was once meant for a push to other specs, like flash storage and other more portable innovations.

I see no need for the "AIR" on the new iPad air... anyone agree?

Or can anyone tell me why they would call it iPad Air???

Yea I agree the name was completely unnecessary. iPad 5 would have been fine.

Guess Apple's legal team had to decide about allowing Apple to either go with Air iPad or iPad Air. Imagine if they went with Air iPad, I can see Apple finally being the defendant in a lawsuit (filed by Nike) :D

The things people choose to complain about on here always amazes me.

I don't mind the name iPad air, I just think Apple seems a little confused with their naming.

iPhone
iPhone 3G
iPhone 3GS
iPhone 4
iPhone 4S
iPhone 5
iPhone 5s (why a small 's' ?)

It's a marketing term. And it was only meant to "push" a light and portable form factor. For the Macbook air, it was that razor thin profile and lightness. Same thing for the ipad. It got lighter, and thinner, so they used a marketing term consistent with another line.

This also leaves open the opportunity to call a larger screen ipad the "ipad Pro" or "ipad HD".

The only problem I have with the naming is that the ipad mini would more appropriately called the air. Not sure why they didn't call it that in the first place.

Apple established today that the Air line of notebooks are the best reviewed notebooks ever. So to me it makes logical sense to latch onto this idea and move it over to the iPad lineup.

This opens the door for an iPad Pro line as well!

Another freaking thread of bitch bitch bitch and moaning about a freaking NAME!!!!???

Can we ban the users who will start threads just to post stupid moanings like these?

ALL,

DO NOT VOTE on THESE CLICK BAIT, TROLL POSTS!

It's another word to make people think that it's light and thin (which it is both, but bear with me on this). Notice how they don't say it's x thick, but x thin. It's why people assume that the initial Surface RT was thick, despite the fact that it was barely thicker than the iPad at the time. They use terms like that to make everybody say that it's thin and light and cool.

Apple isn't stupid, they know how good perception of something can be. Eventually somebody will out-thin them or make a lighter tablet, that's how it works. But they'll have the perception of being the thinnest and lightest to the average consumer, and that's all that counts.

Yeah, how dare somebody have a different opinion than you?

It actually makes sense considering they are still selling the iPad 2. Its just a way to separate the products without making the consumer confused.

iPad 2 $399
iPad Air $499

or
iPad 2 $399
iPad 5 $499

or
iPad 2 $399
iPad $499

And i do not believe we will see an iPad pro anytime soon.

iPad Pro coming next year?

Wifi-ac
Touch ID
some type of CPU / GPU bump

Can't believe i'm speculating but i'm sure the naming is to bring it in line

iPad Air
iPad Mini
iPad x (pro?)

There's absolutely no logic to it. It's a disorganized marketing department who's lost their direction, and there's nobody at the top in management with any common sense to have veto'd the idea.

It's so absurd to call a TABLET an "air" because a tablet in it's nature is to call the portable version of a computer a tablet, and the fact that they're going to make it as thin and light as possible is a no-brainer.

So next year what will they call it? The iPad Lighter Air????

Notice how they screwed up with "The New iPad" and that term got buried into oblivion? I bet the same happens with the term "iPad Air" ... there's nowhere to jump off to from here with the product name, except maybe into thin.... air.....

You forgot about the new iPad.... i mean The New iPad. No not the one that came out this year or last year, but the new iPad that came out before the old iPad.

But who's on first?

Apple Marketing Fail.
