Resolved Air??? Why call it iPad freaking AIR?????

There's absolutely no logic to it. It's a disorganized marketing department who's lost their direction, and there's nobody at the top in management with any common sense to have veto'd the idea.

It's so absurd to call a TABLET an "air" because a tablet in it's nature is to call the portable version of a computer a tablet, and the fact that they're going to make it as thin and light as possible is a no-brainer.

So next year what will they call it? The iPad Lighter Air????

Notice how they screwed up with "The New iPad" and that term got buried into oblivion? I bet the same happens with the term "iPad Air" ... there's nowhere to jump off to from here with the product name, except maybe into thin.... air.....

Apparently you missed the sarcasm. You made my point very clear though, why call it anything other than iPad. It's the one and only, and "air" doesn't differentiate it from the last iPad any more than just being "the latest iPad" ... the mini has it's differentiating qualities that match the mini size.

So as you pointed out, it's the latest model, so why the need to call it anything different. Did you realize you had just stated my point by the time you finished typing it, or do you only now realize it a day after?

Back to your first post - More or less, where does Apple jump to now...

I only see a 'Pro' model being the only solution. And, no matter what, I agree with you again that the 'New iPad' name got pushed to the side, because they could not transition it to anything else. It was also interesting marketing when last Spring they did some stealth marketing and pushed the iPad to 128GB, and not to the iPad mini inorder to differentiate product pipeline more. I actually thought was smart though for both models, and to not publicize too much was smarter for the overall market short to long term.

So, they have had some issues with naming the upcoming iPads, and altogether, marketing for the iPad is a little haphazard past couple updates, and maybe this mess has been going on for awhile now.

Hope this isn't a consistent trait. Right now, it shows consistency... Bad consistency

Calling it the ipad air is a complete masterstroke by apple. Giving it a new identity makes it feel new and different and special, it will sell like crazy. The old naming was getting confusing anyway.

Looks like its win win win for apple, especially releasing a mini retina as well.

🙄 My guess would be that it's a setup for a new model to be introduced in the near future.

Kinda like how there is an iPod touch and a iPod nano and an iPod classic and iPod shuffle.

They are hurting their name... Air was once meant for a push to other specs, like flash storage and other more portable innovations.

I see no need for the "AIR" on the new iPad air... anyone agree?

I think "Air" was meant as a reference to weight and thickness (or lack thereof), just as in the Macbook Air.
