If this is true then it is one of the biggest blunders in human history. How can you offer something and it does not work with any of your products? Jesus H Christ...
yes, JHC here, and FYI it did work with the products then available and it does work in wired mode. The problem is of course bluetooth codecs and bandwidth. Being more of. spiritual guru and not a technological one, I have no idea if codecs can be updated via firmware or not, so I can't tell you if it is a future option or not. Thanks for asking JHC

I don’t get what wired mode means for AirPods Pro max, are there lighting to lighting cables to connect the headset to an iPhone?

Are we sure Pro and Max lack support for any lossless, or do they just lack support for the high-res?

Always buy technology for what it can give you today, not for speculative updates in the future. That way you won't be disappointed in future announcements that you had no idea were coming anyway.
Not saying it might not be disappointing, but industry and technology advances quickly sometimes and unfortunately these are disposable products. What are you gonna do....
I like my current AirPods Max and wasn't expecting this announcement so at least I get one of the two options!
Agreed, while I might be a little salty if I purchased AirPods Max because Apple had to know this was happening, this type of thing happens all the time with most things.

If you get super disappointed by new features you don’t have with every new release, your only options are to be disappointed all the time or not buy anything and live without since everything will not have all the nice features eventually lol.

I’m still excited for the Spatial audio and Dolby atmos in my AirPods Pro.

Are we sure Pro and Max don't support any lossless, not just the high-res lossless?
It seems you might be able to listen to lossless on AirPod Max with a wire connection. Airpods/airpods pro = nope. Not supported on bluetooth.

i’m sure next gen airpods will tho. Start saving up.

Oh yeah JHC indeed! I mean it's like Apple can't possibly be thinking of introducing a new listening source huh? Or maybe they want to cater to people who are audiophiles and already have very upscale non-Apple headphones that support lossless audio. Not everybody needs a pair of Apple headphones to enjoy Apple Music. Ever thought of that?

If you're dumb enough to buy Airpods Max without knowing lossless audio won't work it's your own fault. Bluetooth does not have enough bandwidth.
Tell that to @btrach144 😂

Apparently i was spreading misinformation when i said earlier that bluetooth doesn’t support lossless.

oh boy

People complaining have no idea how lossless and Bluetooth work. You can’t stream lossless audio on Bluetooth because it’s literally impossible. Bluetooth by design compresses the music, so by the time it reaches your ears it’s not lossless anymore. It would be great if Apple found a way to beat the laws of physics, but sadly, they haven’t. Yet.

The computational audio of AirPods Max is fantastic. No other headphone have a sound like that. Like computational photo then the computational audio go over the simply numbers, giving back the best results. With Dolby and Spatial audio for songs it will be an incredible game changer.

Hopefully they will come out and explain how this all works at WWDC so there is no confusion.

What about AirPods max being used in wired mode?
Why? the article says it is possible with special equipment. And whats the big deal with lossless audio? People acting like the streaming quality from apple music is the worst ever. Just be happy apple announced the other features as a free update and wait what apple does in the following weeks

So we are running into the limitations of Bluetooth ... which is fine for me personally, my hearing is not the best anymore anyways :p

I get the Airpods and Airpods Pro because they have been out for a while now but the Airpods Max that just came out not supporting it is kinda a shot in the foot for all the early adopters who purchased a pair. Surely Apple knew Lossless was coming out when they were designing the Max headsets and should of included it for a $550 pair of headphones!
I’m an early adopter of the Airpods Max.
My foot is fine.
Lossless audio is a marketing checkbox - I have done the blind tests, and I don’t have a snowball in hells chance to tell uncompressed from Apple quality AAC using either $10000 analytical speakers, nor my STAX electrostatics or magnetoplanars.

Apple is competing against a number of music services, and they can’t allow those to run free with the narrative that Apple is ”low quality”.
So they provide the checkbox features.
Outside marketing it’s irrelevant, but marketing is important to Apple.

Hopefully they will come out and explain how this all works at WWDC so there is no confusion.
“Introducing our new AirPods. Supports Apple Music Lossless. Available today. $150. We think you’re gonna love it.”

this whole stunt is just to shift new headsets.
