It was nice to be mentioned in the headline article :) but seriously, it its a very good product sound and quality wise and shows that Apple can still innovate.
Apple has been a little stagnent with minor upgrades to phones and watches apart from WatchOs3 which was a revelation. These AirPods really do 'just work' across all my apple products and no issues or concerns to report.

Handy tip: tape some string to them just like your mum did to your school mittens

Or maybe they tried other Bluetooth headsets and want to give this a spin.
What other bluetooth headsets - Apple only sell the plastic overpriced beats ones these days.

Got mine this afternoon in the UK. I really like them so far, the sound is really quite good, better than the included Earpods that I received with my iPhone 7 Plus. Shame that you can't single tap to play/pause songs while two taps activate Siri but they're good anyway.

I'm impressed!

Try taking one out of your ear when the music is playing.

Good point though, I wonder if the AirPods could be updated later via software update to allow changes?

Inb4 people who were hating are praising them. Not a fan of the looks but if people are enjoying them I should snag a pair. Seems so far so good!
I was sat on a train and a girl was sat opposite me wearing EarPods and when i compared my AirPods in the window reflection they didn't look much different. Just a little longer and of course, I had no wires training down. She was adjusting her EarPods every few minutes. I had no such problem :D

How about other companies besides Apple.

Overall, I don't like them so far. I got mine delivered this morning, and they pair alright as others have said, but the double-tap thing just isn't reliable for either Siri or Play/Pause or answer/end call usage.

For example, I'm often left trying to answer a phone call double-tapping, then double-tapping again, and double-tapping again, and double-tapping ...you get the idea. By the time it may/may not finally work, I've often missed the call or it's gone to answerphone!

Same with Siri or play/pause... double-tape, double-tap, double-tap, double-tap...aaargh?!?!?!? It's just too finicky to make them useful for everyday usage.

The worst thing though, is that I really also don't like that when I tap on them, my eardrum feels like someone is banging on my ear each time. This is surely a personal tolerance thing, but for me, I hate the banging effect on my eardrums every time I need to do something — it's more irritating than anything.

Attractive looking though they may be, as they do sit in the ear well, and sound reasonably ok for commuting usage (when you want to hear stuff going on around you), if tap is unreliable and annoys my ears when doing it, these aren't going to cut it regardless, at any price.

PS: Anyone keeping them, I'd recommend getting a back-of-neck chain of some kind, as I can see loss and/or, even worse, thief snatches from people's ears(!) possibly being a 'thing'.

Anyone with a set like to comment on the sound quality, particularly the bass? The reviews are saying it is stronger, but does it still have lots of detail, rather than simply "booming"?

People waiting in line for an Apple product?

I really didn't think there'd be people lining up for these[/B].?
The above is obvious.
Maybe they only had cheap earbuds after losing or destroying their Apple earpods.
Maybe they never owned a of Bluetooth headset and want to give Apple a try, since you know, they may own an iPhone.
$169 for mediocre sound?
Subjective, anecdotal, assumed, take your pick.

Bass is very good, a certain improvement on earbuds. The sound is actually clearly better than the earbuds. I wasn't expecting much difference but it's clearly there.

Still waiting on mine. Why is it when you're out for the day DPD deliver late morning/early afternoon, but when you decide to work from home they aren't going to arrive until early evening (when I would have been at home anyway). It's like they know where you are :D

Bit random to report that the Bath store only had 10 pairs of these?!?!?!
Hardly a main city in England

I've read that you can go into the settings of your phone, under the bluetooth section, and tap the lowercase i next to your AirPod's name and change the tap settings.

There's already something similar. They're called Bluetooth headphones and you can get a pair for $20. That doesn't seem to be stopping those lovely folks from standing in line to pay $159.

I know. I've got two pair of cheap ones (a sporty one and a large over the ear set of cans). They both work okay and I like not having a cord from iPhone to headphone. But wait until the press finds out. Or wait until Samsung makes a really nice set and sells them for $75 (which should be very easy to do). There will be definitely be articles about how this is going to kill Apple's AirPod revenue. Heck, I'm not sure if the press knows Beats is owned by Apple, because we haven't gotten too many articles about how Beats is doomed.

Apparently they've been selling them since midnight here in NYC. No one knew so no one came out. I walked in bought two and left. easy peasy... just hold them up to your phone and they pair with it automatically.

Bought them, more of an impulse buy, since I was considering a pair of wireless stereo headphones anyways. Let's see what these fancy doo-dads can do. Apple said delivery Wednesday, Fedex said Tuesday, now its on truck for delivery today.

Thanks, would not have thought to look there. Changed to play/pause. And you can rename them here too.

Okay first of all how do these stay in sync? All my Bluetooth devices have up to a 1/4 second lag from what I'm watching vs hearing. Now there are two devices and you don't get an echo?

Second I'd rather have this design in a loop with more battery life like I have now with traditional loop sets. A loop would also lower the costs because of half of the technology needed inside.

Just got to wonder why people who comment on sound quality and comfort didn’t go for Beats Solo Wireless 3 instead. It has the same tech (Apple W1 chip) but they are actually decent headphones for consuming content.
