Not an Apple hater, satisfied with my Iphone 7 and 2015 Macbookpro but returning Airpods. Sound quality to my ears is no better than those that came with the phone. Not worth the $$ and found a better wireless option.
Which ones are you looking at? I'm looking for a good wireless option as well. Airpods or anything with the W1 chip won't work since I use an Android. Though I could just listen to all my music on my iPod Touch...

I think I read that the Airpods will work with Android, but not much use if it can't make full use of it.

Jaybird Freedom is NOT the same technology. They are connected by a cord, not two independent buds.
You may not care about this difference, but it is dramatically important in terms of how difficult it is to design these --- two independent buds need something to ensure that the two buds start and remain in synch during playback and this is far from trivial.

Like I said, even more than usual for the internet, there's an astonishing level of ignorance in these comments. People claiming prices that don't exist, products that don't exist, utter nonsense.
If you want to buy Jaybird Freedom and similar tech, or over the ear BT tech, go right ahead. Those are (many of them) fine useful products. But don't pretend they're the same thing, just like it is stupid to pretend that an MS Band is the same thing as an Apple Watch.
Perhaps he should cut them in half and see if they still work?!?

But seriously, that's another good thing about the AirPods, you can only use one if you wish. Both have the W1 chip.

I just received mine 2 days early, WOW! First impressions, they work great. Bluetooth is very stable walking around NYC. Bragi Dash and Blue buds X2 can't achieve this in my experience. AirPods are as loud as the Jaybirds X2 that I own but the X2 do sound better, with base and mids. All this being said, I am very happy with the sound on the AirPods for the most part. The AirPods also feel good in my ear and the build quality is Apple. The battery case is nice and small unlike the Dash's charging case. For new tech from Apple I give it an A-, I would have given an A, but Siri is slow to respond on the AirPods, for example, asking her to lower music or skipping a track. I hope all of you that receive yours will enjoy them as much as I do. Also, if they feel loose in your ear, they sell earhooks made for these, just search Amazon.

think thats enough air pod usage for one day. Feel like i have been using them all day. Will do a workout tomorrow and see how good they will be then. I'm not expecting to be dissapointed

I just remind myself it's Macrumors and my opinion is the one that counts. That is, when I receive them.

And that is all that matters. As long as the people who buy them are satisfied, what random internet strangers think is irrelevant. Let us know what you think when you get yours.

What? It does 'Just work'. Most Apple products have been better than expected when they are released

I think he means Apple used to have the fame of "you have hold your expectation very high on its products and they still always meet it", comparing with the current status of "most customers set a comparatively lower expectation", it's a degradation.

Damn, i thought that people buying headphones for sound quality, not for high tech tricks, but i guess i'm wrong :)
We buy them for all those things and sound wise? it's perfectly good enough. it's better than the earbuds. Is it a huge difference? no but it really didn't need to be for me.

Great.

Now we will get a ton of people who don't own them and never will tell us how crappy they are, expensive, will fall out, will get lost...etc.

We?
And besides, critical comments from consumers? Never!

I find the EarPods never stay in my ears no matter what. Are the AirPods just as bad in that regard?

I'm the same with the earpods but with these AirPods - using around the house this evening - they don't feel like they are going to fall out.

Uh...what? Please point me to a similarly priced fully wireless earbud.

Note that it is possible for this to be both the best value for similar products and still be at a price point too high for some people to consider paying for it.

Tossed between spending on outfitting my house with Phillips Hue bulbs or getting AirPods...just kidding. Hue lights for sure...

Christ. After people saw that a Smart Phone was more than just a phone, you'd think they'd have learned.
But now, we get the same narrow-minded "a smart watch is just a watch" analysis of the Apple Watch.
And now the same "a hearable is just earphones" analysis of Earbuds.

You people have lived through constant tech upsets since at least 1975, and yet you're still UTTERLY INCAPABLE of understanding that devices change and acquire new functionality? Seriously?
Why are you even reading this blog? Wouldn't you be happier reading something else about a world that DOESN'T change every year?

Have you tried AirPods? Those (not named Nilay Patel) that have say sound quality is better than EarPods.

Good, but the for-free-in-the-box earbuds have never been great, regardless of manufacturer.

I don't think an open system like these is designed for good sound isolation in the first place, and the standard EarPods have shown this for years. This will automatically have a negative impact on sound quality, in return you hear what's around you.
