If you think people are going to go around carrying a case you are wrong. I am pretty sure 99% of people will take it off and put it in their pockets, bags, cup holders, drawers...etc. They will drop, they will separate, they will get lost.

Too damn bad. Seriously, this is a complaint?

Instead putting $100 bills in a wallet, I just crumple them up and stick them in my pocket. If i lose them, who would I blame?

Unless I go to the gym and don't plan to take off my Airpods prior to my return, I would be carrying my charging case (i.e. to work, uni etc). It makes no sense not to. If you are going to be in an environment where you may be taking off your Airpods regularly or even once, I am sure it is an environment where you can easily take your charging case with you.

You are not wrong, infact quite correct that ideally everything should be USB-C for their vision.

However to switch everything to USB-C, would mean that everyone who currently owns USB-A/Lightning accessories, will get shafted.

Now MacBooks make up a much smaller group of people compared to iPhones, they are much more likely to not rock the boat for iPhone users. As a point in case, when they removed the headphone jack on the iPhone, due to how large the market is, they included adapters rather than making people buy it separately. The new MacBook users however, did not get any such assurances, despite paying quite hefty premiums on their products.

When iPhone 8 comes out, will they ditch the lignting and go USB-C? I think they should for homogeneity. But the sad truth is, probably 98%+ iPhone/iPad users don't use Macbooks. So they have very little incentive to rock the boat for them, as opposed to the 2%.

Bingo. This person gets it. An iPhone owner doesn't necessarily own a MacBook or even an iPad, and as such, ensuring port homogeneity amongst all their products isn't one of their top priorities at the moment.

You aren't going to be charging the AirPod charging case off your MacBook. You will be plugging in to your wall socket at the end of the day (or week).

Would be nice to have the option wouldn't to be able to plug them in to a UBC C enable computer though wouldn't it? I thought Apple designed for experience? Seems like a bit of a crap user experience to me, especially when you consider that they could just supply both cables (USB Type A and Type C) with the MacBook like Google did with the Pixel C.

It would be nice, as you can see I own both a MacBook Pro and an iPhone, and it sucked I had to buy an adapter to connect the iPhone to the MacBook. I tried connect via Bluetooth/Wifi but some of the commands actually requested that I connect to the MacBook .

I agree they should have provided the cables, but of course, they design for revenue before user practicality ;) as does every other company. I am still in awe that they ended up giving an adapter for the iPhone 7's, but I guess it was to protect future revenue by not alienating everyone. The MacBook crowd seem to be much harder to alienate due to their fear of Windows :D.

I think you mean with the iPhone? Since the AirPod case charges with a Lightning cable.

Well, the option is there. USB C to Lightning cables are available. It sucks that you need to purchase one separately but the option is there.

Cant wait... these are going to replace my xiaomi bluetooth headset and light everyday media use.

The treasury obviously. Who do they think they are making portable bills that could potentially be lost?

If Apple made hats they would all be size 7-1/4, because that is the perfect size. It would not have a bill in front because Apple thought you didn't need it. If it didn't fit, you would buy it anyway because Apple knows what you want.

Hmm by your weirdo reckoning.. that's almost every product ever made by anyone. Ever. What do you want... a personalised freaking sizing?

[doublepost=1481732315][/doublepost]
I can't even fathom why anyone would want these. Normal earbuds fall out of my ears with the slightest movement and these appear just as bad.

I can't quite fathom that you have such loose ears :) Try some sticky tape.

Or enjoy the $160 product for the next - at least - 10 months. That works out to $16 a month? I'll take it. And when new air pods come out with BT5, I'll sell these and upgrade those

It's a first gen product. That alone makes whosever buys one a beta tester for the rest of us. Selfless honorable people.

And with the faster Bluetooth standard already announced and on the way, .. I personally think anyone planning on buying a new phone this coming year should sit this one out.
This is one time that the lag in release has made it obsolete on arrival.

And for a lot of us who just bought a 7 and don't plan on upgrading for another two years, then yeah it's totally worth it.

Actually I think it's even better than that. I have a pair of BT headphones I've had for at least 5 years and they still work perfectly for me. Just because someone upgrades their iPhone shouldn't invalidate them. According to Apple's website, there's even a battery replacement program for them. SO there's no reason to give them up, unless Apple improves the sound quality or battery life significantly.

Moreover, since Apple sits on the board of the BT SIG, I have a sneaking suspicion that the W1 is Apple's way of enabling some BT 5 features, and possibly even making them fully compatible with a firmware update once BT 5 is implemented. So these may be future proof for several more years as well.

Yes it's possible Apple future proofed them, because as you say, Apple holds a seat in Bluetooth standards development and knew full well the imminent approval of the new faster standard. So yeah, we'll see.

I went and bought some skullcandy wireless ink'd for $35 CAD$ on sale. They sound actually pretty good (maybe a bit more in the bass than one would like, but no distortion) and work at least 30 feet away... tested by walking down the hallway into another room. Been listening for about an hour and no dropouts. Seem to pair up right away when power on.

Have pause, volume, track skip, and Siri control. Can make and receive phone calls.
Sure they are not as small and cool as AirPods, missing W1 features but can't beat the price.

Exactly.

Apple is a joke for charging $160 for these things. Pathetic. Criminal.

Is there any reason to believe these won't get the same range? Do they offer independent sound in each pod? They sound like an alright deal but they aren't exactly the same as what Apple is offering. At $159 even a kid who shovels snow or mows lawn can afford these things. I thought they were going to be $189 or more at first. The Apple tax on these isn't that bad.

Go to the Apple store and max out a 15" TB MBP if you want to see something atrociously over priced.

Welcome? Excuse me? I've been using Bluetooth headsets since the Blackberry curve. I haven't used wired headsets with a phone since 2007.

My 29.99 Amazon wireless headset works perfectly fine and has louder audio and better controls than the AirPods.

People who clamor over the $160 AirPods are just silly.

No shame in being thrifty I guess. For many people across the planet $159 isn't even a financial pin prick. Love how your $29.99 pods don't become $30 but Airpods at $159 get rounded up to $160. lol

You get what you pay for.

Why does it matter to you what people spend their money on? That's the same thing as a person buying a Toyota Corolla and b***hing about people that buys luxury cars like Mercedes.

I will probably get AirPods but unfortunately have to wait at least 6 weeks. Just saying that there are cheap alternatives to satisfy me for now - I never owned Bluetooth earbuds before and was waiting for AirPods. In Canada they are $219 btw.

Also I haven't really been paying attention to these cheap Bluetooth alternatives and instead have been looking at higher end more expensive options. Seeing how inexpensive they are now sorta implies a $10 Bluetooth setup at local 7-11 or dollar store in near future thus putting an end to argument of Apple's decision to remove the headphone jack was wrong. Because of that decision it will help drive cheap products.

It will also be my first time for using BT headphones. Luckily in Thailand where I am currently living nobody follows rumors sites much. So I was able to surprisingly get a delivery date of December 20. I feel your pain though as usually over here we are at least a month behind on launches and then another month while demand dies down.

They are 6,900 Baht over here or $193. So I am also paying the premium for not living in the USA. Shipping times say 6 weeks now on the Apple Thailand site as well. If it is any condolence at least you will get to read all about them while you wait and can find out if you still want them based upon what people are saying.

Hahaha youre so hysterical it's cute. Why don't you show us one, just one, completely wireless Bluetooth headphones with equivalent technology as Airpods at a cheaper price. Just one.

Exactly.
