You aren't going to be charging the AirPod charging case off your MacBook. You will be plugging in to your wall socket at the end of the day (or week).

That's missing the point. USB-C plugs into a wall socket charger also.

And for many it's quite common to charge an iPhone off a MacBook, trust me it can charge the tiny batteries in the airpods. Don't worry a dongle fixes this issue

I never said you couldn't charge the Airpods from your laptop. I am saying most people won't be charging it that way.

And considering more people will own an iPhone (and thus buy Airpods) then people getting the new MacBook Pro, it still makes sense to use USB A. I know - people will point out that Apple should have gone USB C with the iPhone as well, but that's another debate for another day.

My view is all new apple products should come with USB-C if apple is serious about the transition, otherwise the USB-C ports on the MacBook Pro and the dongles are just a profit making excercise.

We have multiple iPhones and iPads in our household all of which use Lightening ports, with charge cables in various locations in the house. I am not looking forward to Apple moving i devices to USB C, requiring us to have to mix and match the charging cables as devices get upgraded. I think Apple should include a USB C to Lightening port cable with every MacBook Pro, which might alleviate all of these complaints?

But not everybody will buy any of the new MacBooks more will buy iPhones and iPads so for them Fabinho to buy more USB type C cables are more annoying

They don't fall out because of how someone's ear canal is shaped. They fall out because it's a typical Apple product, that emphasizes design over function. This slippery white plastic is a joke, but why use silicone like all the other in-ear headphones. Takes courage to sell such a ridiculous product for 179€.

You ever tried having a phone call with silicone tip earphones? Yeah no thanks, I don't want to hear my own muffled throat vibrations in my head when I speak. I exclusively use EarPods and have done for years, partly because of this.

Apple uses a proprietary connector on the iPhone so they can control the accessories. Quality control but also money making. I can't believe how many people still don't get it. A MBP is for productivity, plugging things in and out and into other machines and back etc etc, trying to control the standard on a computer would obviously be insane because it needs to play nice with all machines. A smartphone isn't like that.

I think a case can be made for the next generation of iOS devices to come with USB-C to Lightning cables and USB-C chargers, especially as more Macs start to come with USB C ports standard, but I honestly don't see the need to adopt USB C for them.

My rationale is that the biggest reason for going USB C with Macs is for thunderbolt 3, a benefit which is largely wasted on mobile devices. I am not going to be hooking my iPad or iPhone up to a 5K display, connect multiple USB 3 external hard drives, and connect to the internet via ethernet all with one single cable the same way I would with a 15” mbp. And Lightning is already reversible to begin with.

Totally agree with this. I couldn't believe how horrible it was to have that aquatic sound experience the first time I tried this silicon earbuds and that no one was making a point about it. I ordered my AirPods with that single purpose in mind: conference calls, FaceTime audio and WhatsApp calls.

just can't believe the time apple released it...
it 6AM in west coast, nobody wakes up 6 in the morning on a random Tuesday just to check this...
it's so unfair for us who lives in the west coast.

Yet people on the east coast have to wake up at 3am to order a new iPhone...

Okay, what is around at a similar price that works well?
Theres two I use, Audio Technica ath-m50x for full headphones. If I'm not mistaken they outperform some top-tier headphones at 5x the price. The ones I bought were £30 less than Airpods. And then there are Powerbeats as well if Bluetooth is necessary. Much longer battery life than Airpods, plus water-resistant and connected via a wire so you've got that added security. Lovely stuff.

I've got multiple pairs of headphones - specific ones for running, wired ones and bluetooth ones and I've ordered some because the convenience of not having to pair / repair when I move between devices is appealing to me.

Same. But for moving between devices I find Powerbeats to be the most useful. I find if I'm moving between devices then I'm physically moving around, and I appreciate the clip-on nature of those headphones for security.

I used to avoid Beats and still do, but their Powerbeats are in a class of their own. Very useful headphones.

I've got Powerbeats 2 which I use for running and agree they're a great set of earphones (I particularly like the fact they're not noise cancelling (either active or passive) as it's important to be able to hear what's going on around you when you're running :))

If I didn't have them, I'd probably have got the Powerbeats 3 with the W1 chip, but as it is, I thought I'd try something different (I will definitely keep using the Powerbeats for running though)

Apple has announced AirPods will be available for purchase at Apple Stores, authorized resellers, and select carriers next week, providing customers who did not quickly pre-order with a chance to buy the wireless earphones before the end of the year. Apple said stores will receive "regular AirPods shipments."

AirPods launched on Apple's website earlier today for $159. The all-new wireless earphones had an initial delivery estimate of around December 21 for many customers in the United States, but that date quickly slipped, and Apple is now quoting "4 weeks" for orders yet to be placed on its U.S. storefront.

AirPods are also estimated to ship in 4 weeks in Canada, where they are priced at $219. In Australia ($229) and the United Kingdom (£159), customers can still get earlier December 19 delivery as of the time this article was published. In Singapore, customers can get AirPods delivered by December 22 for $238.

In the Eurozone, AirPods cost EUR179. In Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands, customers face a two-week wait for AirPods. Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Japan also have 2-week estimates. In Hong Kong, it is 4 weeks. AirPods are available in more than 100 countries overall.

[doublepost=1481720519][/doublepost]I'm in Canada and ordered mine the minute I saw the post that they were available. I was given a December 20 delivery date, but this morning the order is still "Processing". Fingers crossed.

earphone wires are a problem, but these new 2 pieces bring the problem of losing one of them then you have to buy a new set. I also imagine the price are not consumer friendly to replace a lost set.

Why would you lose one? Take it out of your ears and put it back in the case.

I guess cell phones introduced the new problem that you can lose your cell phone as well, probably best to just avoid this cell phone fad.

If you think people are going to go around carrying a case you are wrong. I am pretty sure 99% of people will take it off and put it in their pockets, bags, cup holders, drawers...etc. They will drop, they will separate, they will get lost.

These are more popular than I figured they would be considering all the mocking they got.

I just liked that they automatically pair with iphone 7. Can use one or two. I'd still use Bose qc35 to listen for longer sessions but these would be good for those times i don't want to fool with a headset. It's more of a replacement for the corded pods which are a pia to untangle usually.

This, i keep seeing comments about losing them, but from early reviews, they are saying the AirPods stay in an individuals ears a lot better than the EarPods because they don't have the wire to pull them down. I just think it's yet another case of people exaggerating and worrying about something that isn't probably going to be an issue.

That's their problem. It's the same problem people have had with any handheld object for a few thousand years, somehow I think we'll survive.

That is a poor excuse. If they want to tout Courage in moving forward. They should have made the Wall charger the same ports as the new Macbook so you can use it in all their new devices. This is poor synergy between devices in their own ecosystem.

This is Bad design

Unless I go to the gym and don't plan to take off my Airpods prior to my return, I would be carrying my charging case (i.e. to work, uni etc). It makes no sense not to. If you are going to be in an environment where you may be taking off your Airpods regularly or even once, I am sure it is an environment where you can easily take your charging case with you.

You are not wrong, infact quite correct that ideally everything should be USB-C for their vision.

However to switch everything to USB-C, would mean that everyone who currently owns USB-A/Lightning accessories, will get shafted.

Now MacBooks make up a much smaller group of people compared to iPhones, they are much more likely to not rock the boat for iPhone users. As a point in case, when they removed the headphone jack on the iPhone, due to how large the market is, they included adapters rather than making people buy it separately. The new MacBook users however, did not get any such assurances, despite paying quite hefty premiums on their products.

When iPhone 8 comes out, will they ditch the lignting and go USB-C? I think they should for homogeneity. But the sad truth is, probably 98%+ iPhone/iPad users don't use Macbooks. So they have very little incentive to rock the boat for them, as opposed to the 2%.

Nobody is taking a hit for you. Yes, with any mass produced item, issues arise. It's simple
Economics. That said, even if there were an issue, Apple will stand behind their product and replace/refund.

It's a first gen product. That alone makes whosever buys one a beta tester for the rest of us. Selfless honorable people.

And with the faster Bluetooth standard already announced and on the way, .. I personally think anyone planning on buying a new phone this coming year should sit this one out.
This is one time that the lag in release has made it obsolete on arrival.

The main thing that makes them look funny is the very bright white color. I think some will try to paint them in some less bright color.

There the same colour as the standard EarPods, so I don't see the difference.
