How do you know that wasn't the case. Clearly there was an issue that caused a protracted delay
A synchronzation problem would be a fundamental engineering issue. If that problem ever existed, it was worked out 6 months ago. None of the pre-production units reported any of those issues so the rumor was either old or lost in translation.

Apple's AirPods are now available to order from the company's online store for $159.00, following weeks of speculation on exactly when the wireless headphones would launch. Originally, the AirPods were going to debut in "late October," but Apple delayed the launch for unspecified reasons.

In the official press release, Apple mentioned that the AirPods will begin arriving at Apple retail stores, Apple Authorized Resellers and select carriers beginning sometime next week. Shipment will begin in "limited quantities" at launch, and Apple encourages customers to continue checking its online store for updates on availability and shipping estimates.

Now, users can order the Bluetooth-enabled headphones, which provide up to 5 hours of music playback and high-quality sound through a "seamless and automatic connection" between the AirPods and an iPhone. To charge the AirPods, the included travel case doubles as a charging station that provides up to 24 hours of battery life for the headphones.
The new W1 chip inside the AirPods allows for seamless connection with devices in Apple's ecosystem, so that they connect instantly whenever the rechargeable battery case is flipped open near an iOS device. When in the user's ears, the AirPods "know when you are listening" and will subsequently pause music when they're taken out of an ear. Playback controls are left to Siri-enabled voice commands, which are brought up by double-tapping on the buds.

Included with the AirPods is a Lightning cable used to charge the carrying case, and the headphones require Apple devices running iOS 10, watchOS 3 or macOS Sierra. Buy your own AirPods now at Apple.com for $159.00. Deliveries are currently estimated to begin arriving on December 21 in the United States.

Update 7:16 AM: Delivery estimates in the U.S. have slipped to December 29.

Update 7:30 AM: Delivery estimates in the U.S. have now slipped to "4 weeks."

Ordered with a Dec. 21 delivery date! Has anyone received a confirmation email yet? I see my order in the store order history but it's been over an hour and I haven't received any email from Apple.

I suspect their email server is clogged up!

The Airpods work with any Bluetooth compatible device, you just don't get the benefits of the W1 chip.. I sure hope you didn't spend an extra $100 thinking that the airpods didn't work on non-apple devices.

That's not true. The W1 provides a handed power management over standard BT headphones. So they may not get the advanced pairing features, but they do get some benefits.

I got my confirmation email within 30 seconds of ordering (UK - 19th delivery date)

Apple picked a really odd time to release these. Everyone in their home town SF (California) got screwed, with no chance of getting them for Christmas (unless they woke up very early). As an East Coaster - my response is - finally!!!!! we're sick of waking up at 3 in the morning to order our phones!!!!!
Worked well for us Europeans thanks

You'd have to be stupid to think that you won't lose them. Also, you're giving up cords in place of some stupid charging case that you'll constantly need to charge... iSheep are hilarious.
So either you don't like wireless or you have a better wireless solution than Apple. Doesn't seem like you need to be here.

Crap. The ONE day I did not check MR early and I missed out on this!

Now I have a 12-January delivery. :(

It's ok - I'm in the same boat.
Gives us a chance to cancel if the early reports are "spotty" or there are QC issues from the, very understandable, mad dash to have some of them out for xmas

Yes, I received my confirmation e-mail a few minutes after ordering.

I have the Jan 12 delivery date too. Odds should be decent that if I really want these earlier I'll be able to get them in a store in Chicago.

I think I got mine almost right away. Does anyone know if you can change payment method at this point? I Apple Pay'd to get the order done but I think I want to put it on a different card.

Ordered and got 12/21 as my delivery date. I wonder if some will get their orders sooner?

I woke up to an alert from a different Apple news website and was able to snag a 12/21 date. I only knew to keep an eye out because of Gruber's podcast from last week.
